thanks! guess i should have routed around basschat before posting this! haha

my '04 MIM jazz has had a vicious buzz that goes away whenever i touch the strings.. i thought it was originally a grounding problem but i've sent it into the shop 3 times and the buzz just comes back. i've read about people using copper tape to settle the problem, but would that sort it? seeing as though it's been so consistent after so many trips to the repair shop it could also be the repairman.. if you have any local london repairman you know of that are good that'd be helpful! thanks James

hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong place!! after recieving some interest in my amp i was wondering.. if i use interparcel premium specifially, how does the transit cover work? and also how is the price affected if i want the cover increased? would the extra insurance get added onto the £41.99+VAT? thanks i really appreciate it. exactly the same thing happened to me! i was doing a charity gig with my local soul band and we were the act before the headliner.....the legendary......TONY..........black..burn.. everything had gone to pot thanks to the local emo/indie band that started the show.. they did about 5 encores? so everything was about half an hour out.. our soul band rocks up, we spend half an hour waiting, we politely asked from the organisers for some more time. we then set up at the speed of light, played through 6 songs and we were cut off because we cut 5 minutes into HRH tony blackburn's set..as we packed up our stuff sharpish. but little did we know mr blackburn was waiting by the stage to give us a lovely, congratulatory message, "thanks for cutting into my time you ungrateful, unprofessional jokes" the whole band had a kneejerk reaction to this, and heckled that ghastly man throughout his set... i would've joined in if i hadn't lost my voice however even though it's a different situation to you.....kinda... there's one thing in common. POOR orginisation!! so you're not really in the wrong because you weren't given exact details, a kneejerk reaction is what can be expected when you've been mislead.. main message - you're gunna get screwed about, but you just have to live with it and move on (and thats from a mere 4 years gigging experience) James
Hi James, By "24v" do you mean a Fender Jazz 24 5-string? I don't know what the string spacing is like on those, but if it's anything like the standard Jazz 5 spacing, it should be amongst the widest spcing around. Most 4-stringers are 19mm and the wider spaced 5ers are usually 18mm. Obviously, you're never going to get the same dexterity from a wider neck (I started my current pro panto run on one of my 18mm Status 5-stringers but changed over to my 4-string Status S2 instead pretty much for the same reason - That the four is so much faster to play, due to the narrower fingerboard & I have some pretty fast and involved parts to play on this particular job). So if your 5-string bass is pretty standard spacing, it's going to be a case of either coping or playing the job on a four. Rich.
thanks for the advice rich, yeah i mean the Fender 24 5 string. funnily enough, i can relate to you on the panto bit, i've just finished playing in the pit band for my local panto, did most of the rehearsals on the 5 but then realised that due to the string spacing issues i would've made a fair few mistakes to say the least, so i went to my 4 string. unfortunately, the parts for the upcoming musical do use the low B, and i don't want to ruin the sound by doing the octave above so 4 string is a miss. i'll probably have to cope with the spacing issues and get practicing so i'm used to the width! right, i've been smothering this forum in my three days of being a member.. but i need some serious help on this one. unlike my other posts.. this is something that has been bothering me for a bit and recently this has come to light. Through word of mouth, the local high school has roped me into their musical production of hairspray, this school takes their musicals very seriously, hiring in professional parts, roping in the 'best' of the local musicians and even selling tickets on ticketmaster! but to the point.....the bass part relies heavily on the 5th string for sections, and as i played through i realised i was struggling to play with the same fluidity i usually play with on my 4 strings and i need to obviously KEEP that when playing from a west end part haha i'm playing a 24v and i think the problem might be the string spacing, so i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of what to get? i could trade my 24v but after seemingly noticing it's been discontinued i'm not that eager to trade.....for sentimental purposes, unless of course the right deal comes along! thanks guys, James
I like it but I find it very tricky to set up. It's too sensitive to the 'hotness' of the bass so you you have to find just the right threshold spot and right attack speed to get the right tone and avoid it enhancing too low frequencies giving it an unpleasant volume boost. When I get it right, it's awesome and makes me forget my wah, but it's a lot of work, also because different amps and EQs in rehearsal rooms make me have to adjust this pedal every time!
ahhh right ok.. i wouldn't mind having to live with that. i always constantly tweak with my other effects, so it'll probably come naturally for me to change it depending on acoustics etc..! haha thanks!

thanks for the info mark! i checked out a vid on youtube of a guy using the bassiq and it is the EXACT sound that i'm after.. guess i'd better start saving up my gig money! haha thanks, James

thanks for all of the input guys. i got up pretty early today so it gave me some thinking time over what amp to get.. unfortunately i couldn't find the suitable secondhand eden/markbass/swr for my budget, and my afternoon trip to london only convinced me further the hartke was the way to go so i'm proud to announce that by next week i will be the proud owner of a hartke 5210 thanks again! James

i've heard great things about this pedal. i was wondering if anyone has had any experiences..good or bad.. so i can judge on whether to get one also whether there are any cheaper or just better alternatives? cheers, James
Not bad for 16 mate! How long you been playing for?
thanks man! i've been playing for 4 years, but thats with at least 2/3 hours practice a day haha. i'm so eager to get better is my problem i paid for the majority from gig money, obviously my main bass (the MIM) and the amp were presents from my ever supportive parents! Hey guys, I'm selling my Line6 and thought that selling on here would be a sensible idea! Quick description followed by some pics: i've had it for about 5 years, only been through about 12 gigs. Amazingly sturdy. The whole sound model system is perfect for anyone who wants a certain sound for the studio and the presets are great for a live setting. Took a small knock to one of the corner protectors but nothing major has happened to it. It's done my bass playing justice over the last 5 years! but since the arrival of my Hartke, this amp now serves no purpose to me. I'm going put a starting price of £150 on it due to the fact it's still in near perfect condition. It would help if you're local to london, as posting is a hassle and drop-off/collection is far easier Here's a description from the line6 website about the whole layout LowDown® LD175 delivers five carefully crafted amp models that can take you from vintage punch to modern grind. You also get a critical set of effects that no bass player should be without. Once you create your own custom sound, you can save it into a preset using the channel memories on the front panel and instantly recall it anytime. FEATURES: * 5 Incredible Bass Amp Models: Clean, R&B, Rock, Brit, and Grind * 5 Essential Bass Effects: Synth, Compressor, Envelope Filter, Octaver, and Chorus * Deep Switch With Special Tone Shaping for Supreme Fatness * XLR Direct Out With Line 6’s exclusive A.I.R.™ processing * 4 Programmable Channel Memories, 36 with FBV Shortboard™ * Headphone Out * Jam Along CD/MP3 1/8-inch Input * Built-in Chromatic Tuner * Footswitch Jack for FBV Express™ or FBV Shortboard™ * 15-inch Speaker w/horn * 175 Watts * Dimensions: 86lbs, 18"L x 22"W x 30"H AMP MODELS: Clean Inspired by* the Eden Traveler, this model is all about clean, funk and fusion bass tone. It’ll give you all the warm lows and punchy highs you need R&B Inspired by* a 1968 B-15 Flip Top, this model is a tribute to those late 60’s and early 70’s clean fat bass tones. It is the kind of tone you hear on most Motown recordings, as played by a pioneering young James Jamerson. Rock This model is inspired by* the ’74 Ampeg® SVT®. This workhorse has appeared on innumerable recordings and arena stages worldwide. And now all the tone of the 300-pound behemoth 8X10 and head is available in your combo! Brit Based on a ’68 Marshall® Super Bass, this model delivers the kind of overdriven bass sound brought to us by late ‘60’s British rock pioneers like Cream and The Who. Grind As the name would suggest, this is for modern rock lovers, Alice in Chains to Mudvayne and Rage Against The Machine. Based on* a distorted SansAmp PSA-1 into an SVT® in addition to a direct clean bass signal mixed in, this model gives you that angry, clear and punchy aggression that takes your sound to DEFCON 1. But that’s not all… Synth Sitting at the back of the model knob is this secret weapon that turns LowDown into a ’70s classic bass synth. From funk to modern rock, this synth model delivers incredible tones and tracks every dynamic move you make with ease! EFFECTS MODELS: Envelope filter Based on* a Q-Tron, this is the baddest envelope filter on the planet. This effect can be heard on tons of major funk and rock tunes. Octaver Based on* the EBS® OctaBass®, this effect produces a single note one octave below the pitch of the played note, adding a powerful new vibe to your sound. Chorus Based on* the much loved T.C. Electronic® Chorus. This is the most transparent, smooth and expressive chorus for bass ever built. Using it does not reduce your low end and it’s especially beautiful on fretless bass. Amazing Tone On Stage and In The Studio! The XLR Direct Output was designed for recording or sending your sound to a house sound system when you’re playing live. This output utilizes our exclusive A.I.R. processing which has made Line 6 products like POD® the undisputed standard for direct recording. Whether you’re playing a gig in a club or rushing off to a recording session, this POD based direct out will give you huge, mic’d amp tone everywhere you go! Pics And here's the corner! Thanks again guys, Hope some of you are interested in buying James
I played the Eden Nemesis 15" combo recently (the RS115), and was mighty impressed - they're around the £600 mark. I'm using a Roland D-Bass 115 at the mo, and it's a great combo if you can find one - light and loud. List price on them has gone silly, but they can be a secondhand bargain, as they're not fashionable.
good shout muzz! when i went to america in july and popped into a local guitar store the guy recommended eden amps to me. i would've considered getting one as soon as i got back until i saw the list price for their cheapest combo! but like you said, there are bound to be some bargains about
just make sure you dont buy the ashdown mag 115.............. you might as well just plug your bass straight into a sheeps arse hartke give you a lot of bang for buck, nice and punchy too all IMO, of course
all opinions are welcome! haha don't worry, i've read reviews on the ashdown mag, lots of complaints about responsiveness etc i have the necessary budget to buy a decent ashdown rig haha but hartke's are still favourites for me

I'm James, i'm 16 and have been playing bass for 4 years. i'd like to say i've come along pretty far in that time, gigging regularly and getting pulled into shows. i've just finished playing in my local panto in the pit band, and have another musical lined up in jan, hopefully joining n.y.j.o in the new year too! i've got 4 amazing basses: a mexican fender jazz with badass bridge and S.D bassline pups, that bass is my 'workhorse'. i've also got a warwick corvette fretless, fernandes gravity tuned to a tenor and a fender 24V jazz. i've got a line 6 lowdown which i want to trade up for a better combo. main influences in my playing are: victor wooten, les claypool, rocco, jocko, marcus miller and larry graham fair to say that i live for playing bass!! hopefully going to try for berklee when i come of the right age. well yeah... that's me! i hope to meet some nice people on here!

Hey guys, i'm relatively new to this so let me give a quick description of where i am as a bassist. i'm 16, gigging fairly regularly for a kid doing his a levels... about 2 times a week.. three if i'm lucky! i've got a line 6 lowdown, and to be frank, it's getting on my wick a bit. waay too muddy sound for my liking. i'm playing jazz/funk/fusion and a nice crisp sound is what i'm after. i've heard great things about the new hartke 5210 and thats my preferred choice, but i wouldn't mind some other peoples inputs if thats alright? thanks a lot. i really appreciate the help James
