How long you been playing for?
thanks man! i've been playing for 4 years, but thats with at least 2/3 hours practice a day haha. i'm so eager to get better is my problem i paid for the majority from gig money, obviously my main bass (the MIM) and the amp were presents from my ever supportive parents! James
2. Hey guys, I'm selling my Line6 and thought that selling on here would be a sensible idea! Quick description followed by some pics: i've had it for about 5 years, only been through about 12 gigs. Amazingly sturdy. The whole sound model system is perfect for anyone who wants a certain sound for the studio and the presets are great for a live setting. Took a small knock to one of the corner protectors but nothing major has happened to it. It's done my bass playing justice over the last 5 years! but since the arrival of my Hartke, this amp now serves no purpose to me. I'm going put a starting price of £150 on it due to the fact it's still in near perfect condition. It would help if you're local to london, as posting is a hassle and drop-off/collection is far easier Here's a description from the line6 website about the whole layout LowDown® LD175 delivers five carefully crafted amp models that can take you from vintage punch to modern grind. You also get a critical set of effects that no bass player should be without. Once you create your own custom sound, you can save it into a preset using the channel memories on the front panel and instantly recall it anytime. FEATURES: * 5 Incredible Bass Amp Models: Clean, R&B, Rock, Brit, and Grind * 5 Essential Bass Effects: Synth, Compressor, Envelope Filter, Octaver, and Chorus * Deep Switch With Special Tone Shaping for Supreme Fatness * XLR Direct Out With Line 6’s exclusive A.I.R.™ processing * 4 Programmable Channel Memories, 36 with FBV Shortboard™ * Headphone Out * Jam Along CD/MP3 1/8-inch Input * Built-in Chromatic Tuner * Footswitch Jack for FBV Express™ or FBV Shortboard™ * 15-inch Speaker w/horn * 175 Watts * Dimensions: 86lbs, 18"L x 22"W x 30"H AMP MODELS: Clean Inspired by* the Eden Traveler, this model is all about clean, funk and fusion bass tone. It’ll give you all the warm lows and punchy highs you need R&B Inspired by* a 1968 B-15 Flip Top, this model is a tribute to those late 60’s and early 70’s clean fat bass tones. It is the kind of tone you hear on most Motown recordings, as played by a pioneering young James Jamerson. Rock This model is inspired by* the ’74 Ampeg® SVT®. This workhorse has appeared on innumerable recordings and arena stages worldwide. And now all the tone of the 300-pound behemoth 8X10 and head is available in your combo! Brit Based on a ’68 Marshall® Super Bass, this model delivers the kind of overdriven bass sound brought to us by late ‘60’s British rock pioneers like Cream and The Who. Grind As the name would suggest, this is for modern rock lovers, Alice in Chains to Mudvayne and Rage Against The Machine. Based on* a distorted SansAmp PSA-1 into an SVT® in addition to a direct clean bass signal mixed in, this model gives you that angry, clear and punchy aggression that takes your sound to DEFCON 1. But that’s not all… Synth Sitting at the back of the model knob is this secret weapon that turns LowDown into a ’70s classic bass synth. From funk to modern rock, this synth model delivers incredible tones and tracks every dynamic move you make with ease! EFFECTS MODELS: Envelope filter Based on* a Q-Tron, this is the baddest envelope filter on the planet. This effect can be heard on tons of major funk and rock tunes. Octaver Based on* the EBS® OctaBass®, this effect produces a single note one octave below the pitch of the played note, adding a powerful new vibe to your sound. Chorus Based on* the much loved T.C. Electronic® Chorus. This is the most transparent, smooth and expressive chorus for bass ever built. Using it does not reduce your low end and it’s especially beautiful on fretless bass. Amazing Tone On Stage and In The Studio! The XLR Direct Output was designed for recording or sending your sound to a house sound system when you’re playing live. This output utilizes our exclusive A.I.R. processing which has made Line 6 products like POD® the undisputed standard for direct recording. Whether you’re playing a gig in a club or rushing off to a recording session, this POD based direct out will give you huge, mic’d amp tone everywhere you go! Pics And here's the corner! Thanks again guys, Hope some of you are interested in buying James
3.
I played the Eden Nemesis 15" combo recently (the RS115), and was mighty impressed - they're around the £600 mark. I'm using a Roland D-Bass 115 at the mo, and it's a great combo if you can find one - light and loud. List price on them has gone silly, but they can be a secondhand bargain, as they're not fashionable.
good shout muzz! when i went to america in july and popped into a local guitar store the guy recommended eden amps to me. i would've considered getting one as soon as i got back until i saw the list price for their cheapest combo! but like you said, there are bound to be some bargains about
4.
just make sure you dont buy the ashdown mag 115.............. you might as well just plug your bass straight into a sheeps arse hartke give you a lot of bang for buck, nice and punchy too all IMO, of course
all opinions are welcome! haha don't worry, i've read reviews on the ashdown mag, lots of complaints about responsiveness etc i have the necessary budget to buy a decent ashdown rig haha but hartke's are still favourites for me
5. hey guys i'm new to this so i though i would just show a few pics to familiarise with everyone haha p.s - sorry it takes up a whole page!!!!!!! my fender MIM jazz my warwick fretless my fender 24V my fernandes gravity tenor line 6 lowdown... soon to be replaced
6. hey guys, thanks for the recommendations! going into london today so i'll give ashdown a crack, i played through an ashdown once and remembered the sound was amazing so i'll have another demo. i've got about £650 to spend, which is why i was considering the hartke 5210. but yeah, i'll be up in london today trying amps and hopefully would've ordered my new amp before the end of the week! i'll get back to everyone about the amp i get. James
7. I'm James, i'm 16 and have been playing bass for 4 years. i'd like to say i've come along pretty far in that time, gigging regularly and getting pulled into shows. i've just finished playing in my local panto in the pit band, and have another musical lined up in jan, hopefully joining n.y.j.o in the new year too! i've got 4 amazing basses: a mexican fender jazz with badass bridge and S.D bassline pups, that bass is my 'workhorse'. i've also got a warwick corvette fretless, fernandes gravity tuned to a tenor and a fender 24V jazz. i've got a line 6 lowdown which i want to trade up for a better combo. main influences in my playing are: victor wooten, les claypool, rocco, jocko, marcus miller and larry graham fair to say that i live for playing bass!! hopefully going to try for berklee when i come of the right age. well yeah... that's me! i hope to meet some nice people on here!
8. Hey guys, i'm relatively new to this so let me give a quick description of where i am as a bassist. i'm 16, gigging fairly regularly for a kid doing his a levels... about 2 times a week.. three if i'm lucky! i've got a line 6 lowdown, and to be frank, it's getting on my wick a bit. waay too muddy sound for my liking. i'm playing jazz/funk/fusion and a nice crisp sound is what i'm after. i've heard great things about the new hartke 5210 and thats my preferred choice, but i wouldn't mind some other peoples inputs if thats alright? thanks a lot. i really appreciate the help James
