1. hey guys, my plans for getting a combo have kind of fallen through, even moreso after i played through a killer hartke 4x10 cab with the hartke ha3500 head at a gig last night. so, i might get the hydrive 4x10 and the lh500. anyone own any of these that could give me feedback? so many amp posts... any feedback would be much appreciated!! thanks, James
 2.
Indeed you are James, just beat you to it haha!
your quick.. very quick...
 3. sunset road by bela fleck and the flecktones. surprisingly unchallenging for a wooten bassline haha
 4. welcome mate, nice to see another young bassist on the site!
What's that bass in your avatar?
it looks like a peavey? am i right? haha James
 5. sorry to hear that mate, if you're up for playing banjo you could join a flecktones style band i'm starting with my friend haha jam over chameleon for a bit, always puts me in a better mood!
 6. span my old squier around my shoulder in my low ceiling bedroom... RIP squier.
 7. hey, i'm attempting some flecktones bass parts..... it's definitely testing me.. maybe i should've started a bit smaller haha James
 8. you could always get a fender standard jazz for around £450 then mod it, i put seymour duncans and a badass bridge, i do jazz and funk stuff aswell and i think that setup is great! (but thats my personal taste ha) James
 9. this EXACT warwick streamer. oh my..... oh and a fodera monarch..
 10.
I can't recommend these highly enough if you want narrower string spacing on a 5'er: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=spector This looks a particularly nice model and a very good price Promise I'm not on commission, lol.
my goodness.. thats an amazing looking bass! i think i'll have to give it a miss as i've never played a spector 5 before haha thanks for the link though!
Alternative is to buy a 4 and convert to a 5. Obviously this will mean adding new screw holes for the new bridge, possibly swapping the pup for a blade type (I wouldn't imagine you'd need to route and fit wider pup, but the pole pieces of what was there might not be in the correct place) and also drilling a hole in the headstock for the extra tuner. On second thoughts, easier to buy a factory 5.
haha yeahh... a tad easier. although that 4 to 5 conversion would be a fun project one day
 11. thanks guys!! lots of different basses recommended, means next time i have a free day i'll be going on a massive 5 string demo session! i'll be keeping a close eye on any good G&L's though, as the bass my teacher let me try was... fantastic
 12. hey, i am considering trading in my current 5er (fender 24V jazz) as the neck is wayy to wide for my liking, 1.8/1.9mm i think my school's bass teacher let me try his bass, a G&L US L-2500, he said it had 1.6 spacing and i could feel it cos i was flying all over that neck haha. But i do think that bass is a bit out of my price range. Does anyone know of any other 5 strings, ABSOLUTE max price limit £1000, with a similar narrow neck? around 1.6mm? thanks, James
 13. red hot chili peppers. can't remember the song
 14.
Welcome to the wonderful world of the gigging musician. This won't be the worst thing that happens to you - not by a long way. You just need to learn to deal with it. For example, at the time of writing I have a £1000+ handmade bass lying around in some airport hanger somewhere; now look at my avatar and ask yourself 'does this look like a worried man?'
haha fair point. and thanks for putting what you said in a pleasant way, rather than putting a guilt trip on me, i TRULY appreciate it
 15. this is in the january issue? i might need to check this out...
 16.
+1. I've invested in gear through the bass centre and found them to be really helpful. In my case, it was a Little Mark II and a Warwick 411 PRO so not a casual purchase either. Regarding the OP, I think delays with postage are one of the negatives with buying online and similar (like over the phone) - you benefit from being able to shop around, but you can't have your gear straight away and there is the potential for delays. You're bound to come across much bigger problems sooner or later in life, which I think is why some people reacted negatively to the thread.
yeah, thanks man. and yeah, i even know that i'll have bigger issues to come, looking back i can see how i sounded a bit selfish about this one small incident though
 17.
You could try taking it to a repairer?
i've been trying to find someone local to me, but the most convenient place that did repairs (harrow music schop) has closed down, i was checking out repair shops to get a grounding problem in my bass fixed, which is why i know. there was a contact on the luthiers thread on this site but he hasn't replied to my week old email yet
 18.
To be fair, they've offered to throw in a set of strings for free because of circumstances completely out of their control that has affected most of the country. I think they've been quite generous.
exactly! they didn't NEED to throw in the extra set haha
 19.
Can I presume, James that you still have the Lowdown combo? Or do you have no amp to do your musical with if this gets delayed again?
the lowdown i have it yes, but when i moved it up to my room for some practice i turned it on it wouldn't make any sounds, i found out that it's a wiring problem between the amp and speaker, thing is i have NO idea what to do with it. so i do have it.. but it doesnt work haha that was the 'catalyst' to my childish rant you could say
 20.
You're openly acknowledging you think you sounded like a spoiled brat in the OP (I didn't think that!). No-one would get away with that on BC no matter how old they are. You'll see plenty of abuse thrown at pensioners on here if you hang around
haha really?, i'll need to try and hunt down some of these threads..
 21. listen guys, i didn't mean for this to basically develop into a personal attack on me ok? yes i over-exaggerated.....a lot, but COME ON, i was just venting, my amp's gunna arrive just over two weeks late, sure it's only an amp to you guys, but for me this is a serious investment and it's delay by two weeks is an issue for me, an issue thats nothing compared to all the horrible things that happened to people in this weather obviously and yes i'm still young, but that doesnt mean i haven't got permission to get angry at something. its honestly like you guys think i have no experience as a gigging bassist!!! here's the kicker though, here was me thinking all the guys on basschat were nice friendly people, 'sorry to hear about your delay' kind of thing, obviously i didn't get those cos i sounded like a spoiled brat in my original post... which i acknowledge but if i was 20 years older there would be a different kind of atmosphere in this thread. sorry for wasting your time with this rubbish thread, James
 22. hey guys, this is pretty old news now but i need to fume the last bits before i go back to school. last saturday i had just taken order of my brand new hartke hydrive combo, i was expecting wednesday delivery and i was over the moon that i'd have it over two weeks before the musical i'm doing. BUT NO england decided to snow in, practically ruining all of my plans, this left me in a deep pit of anger and depression. i managed to phone up bass centre, which is where i ordered the amp from.. here's how the predicted delivery time went 'sorry mate, cos of the weather you'll be getting your amp at the earliest next friday' ...............so even though getting time off school was fun and all... i'm without my big investment of 2010, the amp that will undoubtedly be my amp for the next.......well a long time lets say. this will leave me with at MOST 4 days, to play through, find my settings and try to find any faults on the amp before the musical dates set in. ARGH ok. that's me done now, i would like to congratulate mother nature for delaying my amp delivery by at the least, a week. i'd also like to say that the bass centre were very supportive on the matter though, and offered ANOTHER free set of strings with the delivery thanks for bearing my rant! James
 23. copy of my song attached now James
 24.
What Derren said is right. The majority of Electric Upright's don't even come close to being like a 'real' Bass (I'm looking at you NS). Basses like the Stagg and Palatino are ok for a relatively inexpensive instrument, but don't think of them as a substitute for an upright. Even some expensive models, again, like the NS,I feel are more like vertical Fretless' than uprights. However companies like Clifton (like I use), Clevinger,Azola and Eminence make great instruments, but they aren't cheap. Don't just noodle on one of the basses at school-if they give lessons,go for them. The Upright is a more physical instrument than the Bass Guitar,so it's best to get some guidance on correct technique.
thanks for the recommendations i'll definitely try and get lessons, i get free music lessons cos i do a level music so that's handy. btw.. i have a basic understanding of double bass playing so when i was noodling it's not like i was doing anything horribly inappropriate technique-wise! haha
 25.
Errrr... that's a good thing, James. The older the better in most cases.
it would be a good thing, yeah! but they're very old and treated very badly haha
