Ok here's my review of The Hartke 5410c. A quick couple of bits of info.. The amp weighs in at about 105 pounds which is seriously heavy. But it makes up for its weight with its tone. Paid £799. In my eyes, a very good price for a brand new, top of the line 4x10 combo amp Features: Well, It has a very simple layout, 3 band EQ; Bass, Mid, High. a limiter switch and a brite switch for any bright as you like mark king-esque slap solos. The layout is perfect for me, a still young, barely semi-pro bassist but I think more eperienced people would like greater options while adjusting tone. Rating: 8 Sound Quality: In terms of sound quality, this is where I believe the 5410 comes into it's own... with it's hydrive speakers (half paper/half aluminium in case you were wondering), it really gives off that warm, thick low end and staggering, punchy high end. Volume isn't an issue either, cranking up to high volumes, none of the quality is lost. To make sure this tone stayed constant, I used my active and passive basses andeven asked my friends if i could borrow their basses to try, (p-bass, musicman, I even mic'd up an upright and used an EUB) so the amp can deal with a whole load of different basses and sounds. I also used it recently at a gig with my Fender active 5. The acoustics were shocking. But the amp, in combination with my thunderous fender 5 string managed to carry the sound right to the back. Rating: 10 Reliability: It has so far been used on about 20 gigs and while it's still young it's still producing flawless tones. Rating: 10 Customer Support: Found out about where to get this amp through Hartke UK after a major muck up with another company 'renowned for reliability'. The rep from Hartke UK acted as if I was the only customer in the world, which is fantastic for such a large and well known company! The Bass Merchant, the shop I bought the amp from, were also fantastic, fantastic communication and constant updates. Rating: 10 Overall Rating: 10 As mentioned, it is unbelievably heavy, but the heavy duty recessed handles and the wheels make this amp far easier to transport. It's the talk of my soul band at gigs, just due to its presence! massive silver grill with these 4 massive aluminium/paper cones sitting underneath. Sorry if the review is a bit amateur (it's my first time!) Thanks, James

Played toxic with my soul band. the MD arranged a soprano sax and trumpets with harmen mutes to do as happy jack said, the "wee-wah-wee-wah synth" Such a fun song to play, simply because almost everything is really dirty synth. Playing something with that much over-production really makes you appreciate the effort put in to the original song! I used to hate this song, but when we did it I found myself desperately trying to recreate the bass synth sound (which was done on a nord keyboard I believe) on my £40 korg multi-effects pedal...surprisingly fun, probably the reason I can half-bear the song now -
Thanks for all the comments guys! I suppose in my Warwick naivety I thought of the vette and streamer as the jazz and p-bass of Warwick!! Never thought of the HUGE selection of other top quality basses Warwick have! I've played a Thumb NT 5 before, family friend has one. He brought it over to let me have a play on it once, got some sweet sounds out of it. I'll take advice from some of the posters and try as many different makes and models as possible though. I might need a warwick session in the Bass Cellar some time soon.

Welcome. Loving the banjo and the Tokai!

I'll say Flea because his style has somewhat influenced the way i play. But in the whole slap debate I say neither are my favourite. Larry Graham is my favourite slapper...old school slap, oohhhh yes.
Go for a Corvette. I'm selling one here if you are interested?
That's a gorgeous corvette! But seeing as a trade doesn't look like an option for it anymore it'll be difficult for me to find the money in the next week or so for it..

Thoughts have been going through my head recently... about warwick basses in particular. I had a previous thread which asked for advice on a good, narrow necked 5 string bass. I've been thinking of selling two of my basses Fender 24V and Fernandes Gravity to possibly fund a Warwick 5 string. Owning a Warwick Corvette (even though it's 4 string and fretless), I know that I find it especially comfortable. But I've not got much experience with Streamers Being more of a fender person, I can't really compare which is more suited to me, even though I own a bloody warwick!! So any advice on which of the Streamer and Corvette 5 strings would perhaps suit me better? Thanks for the help James P.S. I know I've posted a lot of pointless "should I buy this" topics even though I haven't followed through with any of them, but I am deadly serious about this one.....I swear!!

Hey guys, Long time since I posted on here! Feels slightly strange... This is probably a long shot, but I was just interested in knowing if any other bassists who are members of this magnificent forum have been accepted to this improv workshop Berklee college of music are hosting in Dublin next week? I was accepted and as I said, am interested in knowing if anyone on this site got accepted or even applied... James

I once had a very drunk man come up to me halfway through a bass breakdown in my soul bands version of car wash, going "PLAY CAN'T TOUCH THIS" I did it and the whole audience cheered. But then again that was just drums and bass in the breakdown so it was more obvious. As long as I'm having fun I don't really mind if noone notices I'm playing the original basslines to the majority of the songs the soul band does.

Seriously nice collection, what basses have been moved on and what do you still have?
Looking good, can you remove the head and use it separately?
Thanks, yeah it can be removed but it looks a hassle! has about 20 bolts securing it.

My Corvette Nowhere near as good looking as spacecowboy's streamers but I like it

Here's my NEW official gigging rig!!!!! All paid for by myself of course

In my opinion... Worst: Bass Center - Advertising Hartke Amps even though according to a rep from Hartke UK, they have no stocking deals with them.. that might have changed now though... Best: Bass Merchant in Essex - Swift, friendly and professional service.
I'm interested in finding our more about this combo. Let me know how you get on!
Sure thing! Once I manage to acquire the funds for the amp, which should hopefully be in the next week, I'll post a Review! Pics and all.

Stupidly Easy Tunes Which Are An Absolute Pleasure To Play
jamesbass116 replied to Hot Tub's topic in General Discussion
Has anyone mentioned walking on the moon by The Police? I love playing that song.. -
Ha sorry for the misunderstanding then! I suppose i should've been more specific with the whole dark thing anyway. Playing in the dark is more of an ear training thing i suppose, (Similar to just not looking at the fretboard when playing), Getting the right intonation incase there's ever a lack of light at gigs and what-not.. then again my bass teacher's crazy (in a good way) so that's probably why he thought of the idea!! But yeah.. good practice schedules are the way to becoming a better bassist.
And the playing in the dark thing? He's having you on.
I was given the tips from my bass teacher, who played fretless exclusively for about 10 years of his gigging life.. I'm not posting to make fun of or offend anyone.. just to pass on whatever small bits of knowledge i have. Sorry for the mini rant, but i just want to help people James
It's not Pino... That's actually a good mate of mine called Andy Coughlan playing a Wal Fretless Pro 1.. He also has a couple of other very nice Wals in his kit bag as well, including one he calls 'Old Bluey' because it's a special one off light-blue colour. A fantastic player, these days Andy does a lot of double-bass work, but he still does a lot of gigs with his Wals, including Cerys Matthews amongst others.
didn't Pino play on the album that song's from though? Surely Numan would make sure the Welsh master of the low end could get on his live tour if he featured on the album they're touring just a thought! James
