Pretty much as thodrik said tbh. It depends what type of doom you're playing as well. I'd be surprised if the orange didn't cut it in any sub genre (amp worship through to trad) - pretty sure Boris use one as a part of their set up somewhere. What sort of style are you going for? What's the band set up? If you're thinking of changing i always go for big iron (abm type amp, Peavy as you're looking, or full valve) just my preference as it feels like they hit harder and are a 'better' aesthetic. Pbass should be a good place to start if you like it. I now use a Spector in my band (active 5). Had a thunderbird prior (active). Maybe try a fuzz or wider type drive with the orange to get you into whatever territory you're aiming at. Muff is a good starter.... I've always used fuzzes in doom projects. Cab wise, I use a barefaced retro 210 (X3). Vintage vibe, lightweight, but not a cheap option. Used 6 or 810s go for silly money these days if you can handle the weight and load. A lot of bands we play with though still end up using house gear on heavy rotation gigs....so cab isn't necessarily a key factor/ consideration depending on what you're going for. If you have loads of power, you'll never get to crank it if you have too much cab. Bit of a balance these days on a standard stage....big cab, lower wattage head will do it, as will smaller cab with high wattage head in most circumstances. Hope there's a useful thought in there somewhere 😂

Bought a pedal from Dean. Excellent condition, as described, great transaction and very helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again. Cheers! ✌️

Hi, I replaced my 210 grill with a black version sometime ago. Had this kicking around still so figured I'd list it. Not sure if post is viable in terms of cost etc. I'm just north of Wellingborough and I rehearse in Stevenage so can meet/ drop between the two. Happy to provide more pics if needed. Any questions drop me a line. Cheers

This has rapidly become bass of preference in my collection of 2. Euro5LX - My first Spector, but what an instrument. Looking forward to recording with it in a few months time. Been writing our latest album for over two years with it. Shot from Fridays gig

Did a guest appearance at our local metal to the masses final last night. Not gigged since desertfest and whilst it was only a 30min set, nice to blow the cobwebs off. Matamp and barefaced combo with the Spector sounded great and got to crank stage volume a bit. Gigs on hold for a while now until we've finished the next album ✌️

Hey, I'm looking at a 500 at the moment as a potential back up/ home piece of kit. Is the gain and drive on the amp volume pot responsive? E.g. Can you dial it in overdriven and clean it up to pristine by backing off the input? Thanks very much, ✌️

Good luck with the final dude ✌️

Home studio monitors & practice speakers

Thanks both - will they provide enough headroom to handle bass practice through them without distorting in your experience? They look a reasonable set to take a punt on as my first venture. Appreciate the thoughts. Cheers -
Home studio monitors & practice speakers

Thanks, they're some really helpful considerations. I'm unfortunately not likely to get a chance to listen and compare to be honest so will end up buying without listening. It is a small space, however I want to make sure I have enough head room to get a bit of volume out of them before they hit distortion. Ill have a think about budget but really wanted to keep under the £400 threshold. I'd be prepared to go to £600 though if there really is significant difference. In the meantime I'll have a trawl through more threads and take a look at some online retailers. ✌️ -
Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing some active monitors for a light bit of mixing and home recording/ band demo work and wondered what recommendations anyone could offer for a set that are towards the budget end of the market but represent good value. Secondly, I want to be able to use them for home practice when not using headphones. Does anyone do this? Does it work? I'm intending on using cab IRs as part of the preamp/ set up I'm putting together. My chain would be: Bass > effects board > preamp > cab sim > interface > monitors / laptop / headphones Thanks for any help, greatly appreciate any experience and recommendations.

What would Al say to that?! 😮

Please buy another cab....you know you wanna.... 😂

I went for a wet > wet amp set up last night, using the second head for more apocalyptic passages potentially on our next album. Sounds ace but a bit of work loading... This is pretty much all my gear. Tempted to get a 410...

Some lovely gear! I'd love to try the Mesa 610 with the big block. That's an amp I've always coveted but never owned. I'll try and soon some of your tunes over the weekend! What's the green pedal on your board?

So back on topic, what rigs, basses and boards is everyone rocking in the basschat doom world? Also interested if people are in bands and links etc ✌️

Hey man, don't go round killing the buzz in here with your blanket downer on a whole genre! 🤣

Played Desertfest London on Friday. Absolute dream come true opening up the black heart stage. Room was full and we hit our stride pretty well I think. Sound, as always in that venue, was on point and I got my GT200 near enough to exactly where I like it on gain and volume through an orange 810. Seemed to go down pretty well, and rounded off with a few pints and more bands. Been waiting for this one since 2020 so a blast to actually do it.

Very kind as always Mr Wilson hopefully catch you for a beer if you're knocking about on the friday? I haven't got weekend tickets unfortunately. Sunday is a ripper. Long time no see dude! Hope all's well with you ✌️ didn't realise you frequented these parts

Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
Salt on your Bass? replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
Small change up to my board, trmporarily replacing my meris mercury 7 with the ehx b9 for some Desertfest shenanigans this friday. Just need to remember how to dial it in again!! Also did a custom masking tape mod on my brighter LEDs. -
Went pretty loud at rehearsal tonight. Volume over talent, but thunderous and great fun!

For me, I use it for parrallel blending effects, clean blend, gain structuring my pedals, midi control over the volante and MERIS, simple switching from really heavy to tranquil/trippy type vibes, and vice versa, together with trails. It also keeps my other pedals out the way and allows me to change the order of my pedals without rewiring eg wah into fuzz the fuzz into wah. It also allows two amp set up which Ive used a couple of times. Essentially it's the brain and makes my life a bit easier to concentrate on playing rather than pedal stomping
