1.
You're welcome to a go on mine with Honey Jazz on if you fancy, and I'm sure Keith will say the same. P'raps have a get together sometime.
Thanks hubrad, you are a star I really appreciate your help
2.
Might have an old set go obligatos to for you to try Neil Just got back from the DB bash so I'll have a look later
Ooohhhhhh thanks Keith that would be fantastic
3. thanks again hubrad. the bass note is most definitely the priority for me so i may go with the higher tension set. for me most modern slap players seem more interested in the click rather than the bass,a couple of bands i have seen recently had the click way up in the mix whilst the bass itself was almost inaudible. plus my bass has always had low tension strings & a very high setup just for slapping & i am getting a bit bored of just root 5th lines
4. thanks Hubrad, much appreciated. yes I do indeed know Keith,I'll get my strings ordered then give him a shout. (Keith setup my very first double bass infact,he's an extremely nice bloke) as for the Obligato's,should I go for the solo set (will tune to E) for a lower tension ? cheers
5.
If your slapping stamina is like that of djordje stijepovic, you'll have no problem with the obligatos I found the pirastro obligato tension slightly higher compared to thomastik weichs. The obligato is a great string and very versatile imo, and fine for occasional slap. The other option is to get the thomastik solo set, slightly lower tension compared to weichs when tuned to concert pitch, and still good for pizz and arco, as well as fast slapping.
thanks Zero09,i didn't think of them so i'll check them out too. i wish i could play 5% as good as Djordje,he's a bloody amazing player
6. I'm thinking of getting my bass setup with an easier playing string height so have been looking at various strings. When I'm slapping I never pull the string hard so it snaps back into the fingerboard as I really don't like the sound. I much prefer a nice solid bass note follow by one or two palm slaps. I quite fancy trying a spot of jazz sometime too. Would Pirasto Obligato work ok for this ? I still need fairly low tension for fast slapping but with a much more musical styles than the usual nylon strings. Also is there anyone in Harrogate who fancys lowering my string heights for me. Ta
7. That is lovely Tom,good buy
8. Agreed an old band I was in covered this,it sounded great on my active fretless bass strung with flats of course 😀
9. I have one on the G side of my bridge & I'm very impressed with it,used it at last weekends gig & it sounded awesome straight into my rig,no preamp required. For £26 they are a steal
10. last & only price drop £200 collection prefered The best piezo pickup/preamp setup for slap/rockabilly playing ? yes it probably is. I've has this on my bass for about 18 months now & it has been a wonderful bit of kit,so why am I selling it - because Im stupid & like messing about trying different things so this isn't getting used at the moment It is in excellent condition & works perfectly. The tail piece has a very nice preamp built into it giving you controls for - Bass (high pass filter) Slap (controls the volume of the the fingerboard "clicky" pickup) Mid (the amount of mid' you want in your sound) there are also two mini toggle switches which allow you to adjust the actual frequency of the mid's (extremely useful this) powered by a single 9volt battery, which lasts for ages,I have done loads of gigs & only changed the battery once. once you have set your sound & amount o f slap (you can of course turn the slap off if you wish) everything travels via standard instrument cable straight to your amp or front of house. how does it sound ? bloody awesome, nice deep bass with a nice well pronounced click (if you wish) I have used it almost exclusively for slap playing but with the clicky off it gives a really nice pizz' tone too. i have found it much better than Blast Cult's earlier channel blaster pedal system, plus everything you need is on the bass, just plug in & play. turn up to a gig plug your bass straight into the P.A. & off you go,no pedals to mess about with,it's a very neat setup. i have also included the bridge pickup tension screw, this is amazing for helping to kill feedback, also it allows you further tone adjustment as the tighter the screw the punchier your sound. here' s link to the manufacturer's website http://www.blastcult...Blaster_II.html you are saving a considerable amount against buying from new once you figure in postage/import charges/v.a.t. & parcelforce's extra charges on top.
11. Duke basses are brilliant instruments, love love mine to bits. I have a Duke two tone but would love a Peacemaker too some day,I would order one without hesitation if only I could afford too. Thomas at Duke is a lovely guy too.
12.
I've always wanted a chance to gig The Trooper
We used to gig that & running free too a few years back, mind I was a big Maiden fan then,I got a few compliments from the punters for my galloping fingers. Sadly the drummer passed away so we decided to pack the band in. I don't think my old fingers could go at that speed anymore.
13. I always wondered what guts would be like & after a while put a full set of plain guts on (I play country & Rockabilly) but took them back off after a short while. I'm now back on innovation golden slaps, which I really like as they are much easier to play & sound really good especially when amplified. Plus I just got sick of constantly trimming hairs, sanding & oiling them, now I just wipe my strings after use.
14.
Great album. When I first heard it, I was rather underwhelmed, but its a grower for sure.
I agree entirely,I wasn't keen at first but like every track on it now.
15. I use one on every gig through my Barefaced big baby 2 & it is awesome. I leave everything flat (12 o'clock) but set bass at 9 o'clock which is perfect for me with all the power I need. It's the best rig I have ever used
16. Excellent choice sir ! I've been really fancying one of those myself.
17. How about a Japanese Tokai Hardpuncher. I recently bought one from GBBL & it's a cracking bass,I'd say it's the nicest P bass I've had.
18.
He has a dangerous house doesn't he, I went in a week ago to drop an amp in under warranty to have an issue fixed, go back a week later and walk out 2K lighter :S the other half doesn't know yet hehe. Enjoy the P bass!
Yes a very dangerous place to visit Cheers
19.
I was at Drew's the day after you were there and I left with these two, I think you may recognise one of them!
Indeed I do It's a lovely bass, just too many strings for me.
