1.
Lovely!Just joined the club too
I can't believe how good they are for pretty good money & love the case too
  2. Lots of bands with programmed keyboards ! That's not live Music in my book.
  3. Thanks guys I'm so pleased vwith it mind I do like vintage frets & gloss finished necks. As mentioned above, just plug & play, you don't really need anything else.(this week)
  4. Very nice. I bought a brand new one yesterday & love mine too.
  5. I just bought a brand new Japanese Tokai Hardpuncher today. £800 ash body, great build, perfect frets, sounds ace & comes with a tweed hard case. I've owned loads of Fenders in my 37 years of playing & this is as good as any.
  6. tried many basses at GBBL today thinking i wanted a modern active funk machine. how wrong was I. as soon as I picked this baby up I wanted it,good old school thump & a total joy to play. cracking deal off Drew,a good natter & a couple of coffees later home it came. it is a Japanese made Tokai Hardpuncher with a swamp ash body & lovely glossy neck/fingerboard - yum yum. beautifully made, sounds just like you think it should & came with a nice vintage style tweed hard case, for a lot less than one with an "F" on the head stock.
  7. Ok so last day on here then it'll be traded in to a shop tomorrow.
  8.
I liked mine when I had it,great b string
Thanks jassbass. Indeed it is a great bass,I guess if it said Fender or some such on the headstock it would sell easily.
  9. I might possibly be selling mine in December when I've finished this year's gigs.
  10. Ok this bass is only available on here until Thursday, then it will be gone, traded to a shop so you'll have to pay more If you are interested please let me know, there will be no further price drops or shipping offered though. Cheers
  11. 14.
These are great 5ers
thanks jassbass indeed they are cracking bits of kit
  15. thanks for all the replies guys, all is now sorted. as mentioned above it was just a communication problem & me being impatient too. just goes to show you jumping to conclusions without getting all the facts is not the way to go. i am a tit. please ignore me
  16. thanks for the replies guys. i have dealt with said vendor a few times in the past, with some difficulties, communication always seems to be a problem with some messages getting a reply & others totally ignored, facebook + email included. whilst it may be better to phone for some people i can't do that whilst i'm at work but firing a sneaky email or f'b' message can be done with stealth, what the boss doesn't see etc.
  17. ok now sorted,please ignore

    Overwater

I'm sure you are quite correct & mine was just a one off dog. What really got me was that Chris didn't want to put it right. When I spoke to Martin on the phone he said that the body should be replaced as the neck pocket was cut far to deep,Chris however thought it was acceptable. I had to put yet more shimming into the neck to get the bass set up correctly,in all there was 4.2mm of shims in the neck pocket, you could actually see that the neck was sitting at an angle with little wood to wood contact. When I bought the bass new I just assumed it needed a truss rod tweak & waited until I put a new set of strings on. To say I wasn't impressed is an understatement,I thought I had bought a top quality bass, apparently not. I ended up trading the bass back to the shop I bought if from, loosing £400 in the process. I wish I'd taken it further with hindsight.

    Overwater

My UK built overwater jazz bass had the very worst neck joint I have ever seen on a bass, with its 3.2mm thick poorly made shim.( which still wasn't enough to get a playable low action) Chris May seems to think this is fine on a bolt on neck joint,I however didn't. Personally I'd rather own a Tanglewood built bass.
  20. Hi,the action is fairly high to facilitate the low tension strings. If you plan on using steels you can have a pretty low action but with low tension strings you need a highish action to give the strings room to vibrate without clattering on the finger board. My old bass had an adjustable bridge so I experimented with string heights & came to the conclusion if using guts or similar I really need a pretty high action.
  21. For Rockabilly I say get a Duke,I love mine to bits. Plays great, sounds awesome & looks cool too. They come with a proper luthier setup suitable for gut strings or a synthetic alternative. I use innovation golden slaps E & A with plain gut D & G on mine.
  22. ** special offer this week only £700 cash Sorry no trades in very good condition, with just a few minor marks that i have managed to photograph. this is a truly lovely bass, build quality on Mayones instruments is top notch,it plays extremely nice & has a very nice range of tones on tap from its 3 band active eq + Bartolini pickups. it has a curved body profile, like some Warwick basses,so is very comfortable on the strap & balances beautifully.

Amazakoe - flat top contoured
Construction

Bolt - on
Neck

5-ply / Mahogany-Maple
Two additional graphite rods
Dimensions: 4 string 5 string Width at nut 41 mm 45 mm Width XII fret 56 mm 62 mm Width XXIV fret 63.5 mm 70.8 mm Thickness I fret 21 mm 21 mm Thickness XII fret 23 mm 23 mm
Fingerboard

Rosewood
Fingerboard Radius

20" (508 mm)
Scale

34.25" (870 mm)
Frets

24 medium jumbo 18%NS Ferd Wagner 9665 2.64×1.20 mm (w×h)
Markers & inlays

Plain, no markers + side dots
Headstock

Angled; topped with Amazakoe
Tuners

WSC De Luxe Mini; BLK
Bridge

WSC De Luxe Bass
Pitch: 4 string 5 string 19 mm 17 mm
Pickups & Electronics

Bartolini J-J passive pickups
Mayo M-BP3 bass preamp (3 band)
Control

Volume + Balance + Middle + Treble +Bass
Knobs

Standard metal dome knobs
Body finish

Natural Wood / Oiled finish (T-NAT-O)
Neck finish

Transparent Natural Matt (T-NAT-M)
Headstock finish

Body matching
Hardware colour Black

Graph Tech nut, Switchcraft jack, Schaller Security Straplocks, Hardcase
Separate 9V battery compartments
here's some photo's of this lovely bass, please note the body wood looks lighter in my photo's than it actually is. please note this bass does not come with a case or gig bag so it's collection or meet up somewhere. cheers
  23. Great shop,craps videos.
  24. My Mayones 5er has Bartonini single coils & it sounds just wonderful, nice smooth tones, but you can make it snarl with a bit of eq if needed. I really like the look of Barts too I wasn't too keen on the Delano's my last Sandberg had,I found them a bit harsh for my tastes.
