1. I've just switched from plain guts back innovation golden slaps,so same strings as you. Yes if you injure your fingers you knackered for a while, took me a few weeks to recover fully. It's very easy to get carried away once you get gigging but try to pace yourself & use as little energy as possible when playing, otherwise you'll be a spent force well before the gig is over. This I know from experience
2. What strings are you using ? If you're using steels then tape every time. Nylon or guts & you will build up calluses eventually,so keep on practicing. I have used tape when necessary but I don't like it either, mind I have just gritted my teeth & played on blisters before, well until they burst. Blood splats on my blonde bass isn't a good look & it bloody well hurt too,not recommend. Also don't play too hard, you don't really need to play hard to get a nice slap, try using just enough force to get the sound you are trying to achieve.,(if that makes sense).
3. Good review that Bloody lovely bass, you lucky sod. I hate you
4. Agreed crap review Lol I too find my Mayones so easy to play & it sounds mega too.
5. So how's the new Mayones ? Spill the beans
6.
That's exactly what I came home with! I tried out about 6 basses overall, narrowed it down to a Rocoe and that, but there was no comparison for me really!
You bastard !! lol I'm so jealous, that bass is just beautiful, excellent choice sir. I've been drooling over that for a while but just couldn't afford it,I bet it is sublime to play. My mayones is only a "basic" one but it is fantastic, maybe even the best bass I've ever owned. Enjoy your new bass. I'll just sit here turning green.
7. Definitely check out Mayones, they are great instruments. I like mine much more than the Roscoe I used to own. If you end up buying that beautiful Mayones Comodous they have I will be so so jealous. It's a great shop, you will have a great day. Enjoy
8.
I always used the Gain to push the preamp valves then used the master for overall stage volume. Setting up the "GK way" makes it harder to get any real grit (in my experience)
Me too, mind I'm amplifying double bass so too much gain just causes feedback. I usually run gain & master at 12 o'clock for most gigs. I've yet to run bass guitar through my rig.
9. Good choice. I have an MB800 Fusion & it sounds mega through my Barefaced BB2
10.
That was me with a faulty Hartke kilo. The UK Hartke representative got involved when it went wrong 1St time and arranged a repair. Unfortunately it almost immediately went wrong again and he just didn't return any calls or emails. It was a known fault with the amp and Hartke just washed their hands of it so I ended up £750 out of pocket with an amp that never worked again. I'd never buy anything from Hartke in a million years now. I even emailed Larry Hartke and he didn't respond.
Snap I bought a Hartke Kilo last year, that failed twice in quick succession, the second time leaving without an amp for an upcoming gig. I too emailed Larry Hartke three times,he never replied. Fortunately GAK were brilliant & allowed me the full price I paid in exchange for something else. I went for a Galien Krueger MB800 Fusion & couldn't be happier with it,superb amp. I'll never ever buy any Hartke gear ever again.
11. Price £100.00 collected £110.00 delivered to mainland U.K. fancy trying a set of quality full guts cheap ? well here you go these are in excellent condition as the E & A have only been on my bass since January. the D & G have been on since Febuary. oiled every week without fail. they give a lovely warm thumpy bass sound, kind of warm & pillowy. good for piz & great for slap, not sure about bowing as i don't do that. nice & soft on the fingers too. cheers
12. Met Jay to trade basses this evening & had a good old chat. He's a top bloke to deal with, good communication & all round nice guy. Mega pleased with my bass,if anything it's even better than I was hoping. Deal with utmost confidence.
13.
When you say you have your eye on something ,it wouldn't be my 62 reissue by any. Chance.lol
Hi Richardd,I'm lusting over a very nice Mayones on here, but I have been looking at your Jazz for sure as I actually owned one for a few years in the nineties,I sold it in 1996 if I remember rightly. Mine was LPB but I've always liked white jazzes. I don't have any cash to throw into a deal though as my old house needs work doing.
14.
Lovely! What's the nut width and weight please, for those of us who like that sort of thing
Hi nut width according to my trusty tape measure is 40mm As for weight,I don't have any working scales but I'd say 8.5 to 9 lbs. Certainly not heavy,if I can borrow some scales I'll weigh it for you guys. Cheers
15.
Man, if I had the cash!
it's only money,so spend & be happy
16. for sale - my rather nice Sandberg VM4 bass Butterscotch (which was a limited edition) with Sandberg's heavy relic finish beautiful neck with maple board & lovely black blocks Delano pickups & 2 band eq (Glockenklang so I'm told by Drew at GBBL) Active/passive When in passive mode treble pot works as passive tone control plays & sounds lovely currently fitted with Fender tape wounds but I can fit the round wounds it came with if you prefer. excellent condition (well for a heavy relic finish) no extra dings added (edit - there is a very slight ding on the back of the neck which i only just noticed, certainly never noticed it while playing the bass - just thought I'd mention that ) comes with a Sandberg gig bag. i would prefer a sale as i have my eye on something else on here, but i am open to trade offers for something of a similar value. I am based in Harrogate & would prefer a meet up as I really don't like shipping basses without a hardcase.
17. OMG that's beautiful. If only you'd take trades,I fling my Sandberg at you in an instant.
