1. Sold my Squier Special Jazz bass...payment went smooth, unfortunately I'm still awaiting returning of the hardcase...no response to call, txts and mails.....avoid!
2. Ohh my old bass...still looking good! Buy with confidence billy apple is a delight to deal with and he is only the 3rd owner of this A1
3. this guys know his fretboard, likes his fun and has a very tasty bass too! enjoy...not too much slap either
4. Been absent bump....sorry no post anymore, collection only.
5.
but... that's fixable
yes but i didn't want to faff about with neck on a new bass....given the high end boutique pricing structure of the JD75 range
6.
Aria STB basses sometimes sell for peanuts on ebay. I've seen them in claimed excellent condition sell for £40. (Collection only in obscure location) A long time ago, someone said to me that the STBs are better built than Squier Affinity basses, but not as good as Squier CV or VM basses. Would you agree?
i've had/have all of those bass's....affinity jazz....cvj, vmj and stb jazz. They are all good, nothing in them really bar the tame pups of the cvj and super hot pups of the STB and P neck. The Affinity is quite light as they have a shallower body and the neck is a little more flexible but doesn't go out of tune. my 'at work' bass is an affinity jazz and I Iike it a lot, got me back into jazz bass's but there are quite a few different flavors of affinity....chinese....korean....'play now' starter pack....and more probably. Modern Aria's just don't seem to hold much love unless you have owned one, but having owned older Matsumoku bass's (3 of them now) I can say I don't get on with them so well and I can't see why they deserve the hype and prices, nothing wrong with them but not for me.
7.
Yes, had both, still have the HB and I love it, it's a bit on the heavy side but the tones and finish are brilliant. The JD is as everyone says and it's good but I prefer the thud and clarity of the HB but it's very subjective isn't it? My 'like' might be your poison, I even bought the HB 50's too and I can't really fault that either. ICONIC why did you bin your JD?
I couldn't put up with the slightly rough fret ends, I thought I would live with them, but couldn't in the end....that was the only reason, everything else was good for the money, as I find with most cheapies. A good bass, but my Aria STB jazz is a better built bass for sure, as I said in my first post, but then the Aria is more expensive
8. Hmm, nice bass, these later Aria's don't seem to get the respect they honestly deserve, the inconvenient truth is that my late model STB jazz is a far better bass than my 1983 SBR-60 ever was!
9. Ive had two of the 20 watt versions....biggest POS i ever had in a bass product thus far. peavey microbass and fender rumbles sooooo much better. Hope this helps
10.
Give 'em a good rub down with an old cotton t-shirt.
I'll give that a go, new one on me
11.
Who is currently making Fender's strings?
D'addario, allegedly, even though Fender invested a lot of $ in a new string equipment not long ago. Made to a their recipe by D'addario, not relabled. They changed the 7250 and other strings a while back, those older ones were really sweet, as opposed to just sweet. Older strings generally had silks, so its easy to spot the older strings.
12. I've had a wee search and there seems to more opinions on stainless Dunlops, and just to be sure I'd like some thoughts on the Dunlop nickles, I'm thinking of giving the 45-105 medium nickles a go after 5 years of Fender 7250M Superbass use. I know strings are so very subjective but anything welcome. many thanks guys (and gals) these are the ones I'm, toying with.
13. Just put a new set of my fave rave string the Fender Superbass 7250'Ms on my VMJ and ....its like having microphonic strings... ...the string noise is incredible, they are so bright they could make the hairs stand up...like fingernails down a blackboard and as tight as a camels a**e in sand storm. I've still got another 4 bass's here and all shod with unworn 7250's so it's not me, honestly! ...same packet as normal...any ideas?
14. yes sir, fantastic bass for the money and some
15.
Close ... but no cigar.u The ink on a genuine £50 note never dries completely. If you rub one with a piece of white tissue paper, it's supposed to stain!
correct
16. Better wood in the 50's? ...WW2 had only finished a few years earlier, most industry had gone over to the war effort....I'd be surprised if there was oodles of unused wood ageing gracefully away?
17. Following on from the BBC radio 4 item on the 12 bar blues, they listed some examples that one could be forgiven for overlooking the fact that they are 12 bar blues, as they aren't like the usual "I woke up the morning" type stuff....any others come to mind as I'm a virgin to blues..... ...blues wouldn't normally be my monkey but I find playing bass to blues to be good fun...I must be getting old!?!
