Get a cart to help with the cab. £20 from Amazon.
That's not going to help her get it down the stairs though...

Maybe the Fender ethos of "mass production, bolted together in a factory" shows that a five string is more than just a four string with an extra string added? I suspect that many of the other manufacturers (the ones usually regarded as having decent B strings) have actually re-designed their instruments as fivers rather than just adapted their four string designs. Or maybe I'm just being naive?
we're crippled at the moment from lack of technical support because we can't afford any. We've just been let down by a developer after 10 months and Steve knows a lot more than me and we have found two people willing to take this on as a fully paid job but now it's the lack of funds holding us back.
There appear to be a number of people who are members of this forum who have the technical skills to help, maybe as a short term solution a few favours could be called in? If I had those skills I would certainly volunteer them to a forum that has given me such pleasure.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to see the forum struggle because some members (and businesses) who sell quite a lot of gear on here have short arms and long pockets?
Good point. But at the same time, do we want to discourage genuine contributing members from selling the odd item? As you say, some people only appear to join this site to sell stuff, and I think they should definitely have to pay for the privilege.Charging everyone may be counter-productive I feel...

Me too. From work and from home. Just on basschat. Not complaining, just saying.
But does it matter...? People don't have to be led down certains paths all the time.
It's an interesting question, and if someone wants to know the answer - then yes, it does matter. Nobody is leading anyone down any paths here - just asking a question! Nobody has to answer if they don't want to.

When this question was last asked, I was firmly anchored... or at least so I thought! When I actually started to pay more attention to what I was doing, I realised that my thumb did indeed float from time to time. Strangely, I now find that it has a tendency to float more and more... But for that heavier touch when I dig in (which is pretty often!) it goes back to it's home anchorage. I'm happy either way.

How much does that "pour-in" method raise the level of the fretboard though? It looks a pretty thick coat so I guess it's either a huge amount of sanding or you leave the nut at it's original height (i.e. what it was when the frets were in place)? Seems a heck of a lot of work...

The pickups look to be quite close together on that bass - certainly a lot closer than they are on my old series II.... Nice looking beast though! Edit: after reading the SG website blurb.... "The bridge pickup has been moved away from the bridge by 20mm to make the right-hand technique a little more flexible." I thought as much. Although I have no idea what they mean by "more flexible right hand technique"...?

In that price bracket you certainly have plenty of choice - especially if you are also looking at used instruments! Yamahas have a very good reputation and are always worth a try. They come up for sale on here pretty frequently too. I recently sold a Carvin fiver. It was definitely the best five I have played, just not for me as I only really get on with four strings... My loss I know. Lots of suggestions above for Fenders or Fender-type basses. They can certainly be good, but there is an awful lot more out there. Vigier? Alembic? Status? Idiosyncratic maybe, but they have their fervent admirers. Try lots. With that amount of cash in your pocket you are in a very strong position as it is definitely a buyer's market at the moment. Good luck and enjoy the journey!
I run a Focusrite Compunder in my loop.
One of these?
This Saturday's gig was an odd one, we were at a place that had begged us to return, only to be stared at, virtually NO applause, a real negative vibe, I was ready to knock gigging on the head by the end. Came off stage and everyone was raving about us?!?!?
I've had that before. Does my bloody head in!! If you like a band - show them! You are left feeling very confused...

Interesting pice of video evidence that would appear to disprove the theory that Geddy Lee only fairly recently developed his "flamenco" technique.... (Also notice how similar to his "Rickenbacker tone" he sounds with this P bass). Watch/listen from 3:40.
Really? She seems as bland and obvious as the bass she's holding.
Has somebody had a bad day?

That was fun! I enjoyed that. Horrible bass tone, but everyone was having a good time - so who cares? I think there is some mileage in that...

Every time I mention compressors, I get told (politely) that I don't understand what "compression" means.... so I won't. I don't use one, but have been thinking of getting one. Interesting responses!

Has she had a boob job? Her figure looks more full than of late...

Interesting question! I am actually more of a "rhythm" bass player. I don't often think in terms of melody or harmony, unless there is a string melody already there and I want to counter it... I stick with the what the drummer is playing to a far greater degree, which kind of limits me but also frees me. It's amazing what you can accomplish in terms of syncopation by NOT playing on certain beats or notes. That is what makes the track live and breathe IMO. It also gives the more melodic instruments more options...
Plenty of Fender alternatives too, if it's Fender shaped and you like the look of it have a go!
Yeah - don't limit yourself to Fenders!

Fender, probably more than any other manufacturer, are known for the inconsistency of their quality control. A £200 Squier can play as well as (or better than) a MIA costing ten times as much. Which is great if you own that Squier - less good if yours is the MIA! That is why it is so important to play lots before you buy - and buy the one you played and liked. Having said all that, I would go with what several others have said and look for a Japanese one - export or non-export.
they climb steadily, you dont have to wait yonks, 5 years would see you make money for sure, and have had 5 years owning and playing a great bass. certainly better than money in the bank at 0% interest, and what fun is that.
Now just stop it! That kind of talk has been known to make people make silly decisions!

I thought I was going to really dislike that new custom PG... but I actually like it!! It sort of reminds me of Geddy Lee's teardrop P bass... Good old Howard!
