1. I'm obviously a bit bored and need something to focus on/fart about with. I'm thinking about changing the guards on these basses ( see below- the 2 on the right as you view it) , but can't decide what - was thinking something less white for the '51 P and maybe mintyish for the Squier Tele. I suppose i could just leave them alone I'd welcome any views/random thoughts......
2. I posted this on the Bass Guitars section , but it might be better here. It's in Fife - here's the Gumtree link http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/electric-bass-guitar/1030273561
3. Can't be arsed with that malarkey , I'll post it on the Weird & Wunnerful section, I mean it's a classic , obviously.
4. Think I'll leave it - it's not bargain of the century then!! Oh and it's been reduced to £30 Here's the link - it's in Fife, Scotlandshire http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/electric-bass-guitar/1030273561
5. any clues - it's for sale locally , much cheapness at £40 worth it /whats to loose??/
6. If its not been used and is unlikely to be , I'd say its no bad thing to sell/trade it for something you would appreciate like the Epi LP. I understand the attachment but if its been stored away and not even " on display " then it could wel be time for it to find a new home. Quite good to have a P and a J though, just to backtrack slightly!!
7. Check out Wilkinsons , good quality and not expensive (£15?). Axesrus have them I'm pretty sure.
8. I almost wish I didn't have one so i could buy this!! These are about £290 new , £170 you say? It's certainly a buyers market on this one. Don't sell it for any less - unless of course you're completely bonkers, no offence.
9.
I'm in a 3-piece too (+vox). I've never understood the need for anyone to 'fill in' the hypothetical 'void' created by the 'lack' of a second 'guitarist'. The fact that a 3-piece can be sparse is the joy of the format, IMHO. With good, creative musicians there's really no need for a second guitar, OR keys.
Yeah, down with keyboards & stuff!! Unless you're prog rock or something fancy. Piano now that is acceptable . How did Chas 'n' Dave sound so good, with no guitar, at all? We used to be bass, drums, 1 guitar & vocals. Then the singer started playing rhythm guitar to the extent he does it all the time, I think it's to the detriment of his singing and his , ahem " performance". However , when he occasionally stops playing , it does sound empty to me, but probably just because I'm now used to the extra guitar.
10. Nice one, look forward to the updates.
11. Carlsbro cobra, I got rid of an Orange valve head and a 4x12 Sound City cab to get it. Why?
12. Spot on, I hadn't thought of that, just that it looked a bit funny

14. I'm confused. Dorky = supercool in some cases? I think Thunderbirds are cool, but on short fat middle aged men,(for instance),they transform you into The Lord of Dorkness?
15.
Hi guys, This isn't a discussion or argument in any way. All I want you guys to do, is add your favourite British bassists. For each post, just copy the last post and add yours (like a tally kinda thing). The reason for this, the relay. Thinking up people to aim for. Once it's all done, and I've an extensive list, I'll create a bingo like game with some of the relay ashdown goodies as a prize. How's that sound? Cheers all, James
How do you think it's going James?
16. Wow!! I seem to remember him talking a lot about playing " Heavy, heavy bass" on Rockschool. When was Rockschool on TV?
17. Good man . What a gent.
18. Flog it here and make a huge profit!!!!!
19. Here's a couple of pics featuring my Kramer Ferrington electro - acoustic. Pointy headed acoustics are probably pretty rare, I know this was. I've never seen another one, maybe there's a reason for that I sold it when i stopped playing for a number of years, I know who has it though and it's been well cared for it was a lovely cherry red with cream binding and nice inlays Don't think I've got any just of the bass - sorry about that - bare in mind these pics were taken about 1998 I think
20.
Why thank you. It's an "I'm allowed to have a playful dig at my own basses" thing, in the same way that one is allowed to slag off one's home town AND get offended at non-residents who do. It is dorky to me. The thing is having spent a lifetime being alternately referred to as dork, geek and nerd, I don't see it as an insult. To me, the RD is a dorky bass. It's clever (hello, built in compressor/expander and bright mode in addition to 2 band EQ - may as well be a built in slide rule and pocket protector), awkward (needs its own gig bag/case, neck position relative to the body), non-conformist and most definitely not swimming with the tide. The RD would never go to a school dance, even if it was asked, which it wouldn't because it's "weird". It's probably the bass I identify with the most, and because I've become quite a militant dork/geek/nerd these days, I love to wave it like a flag in the face of conformity. Hey kids, it's OK to be clever, it's OK to be different and HERE'S why.
I think the funny wee peaked cap ( in black) would've finished the look perfectly, and complemented the Fisherman's Friend with the megaphone thingy. I'll make no comment on your dork/geek etc qualities, but I do like the bass, and your bassface. Also, I like Mustangs, they rock, man!! ( and it's a cool sounding name). Steinberger cricket bat thingies , played high , can never be cool , and therefore qualify as dorky. I think it's the law that you need to do a funny burling round thing when performing, and have a spikey mullet, and have a radio mic stuck on your face.
