1. Had a better look now - bit of drooling going on I'm liking the bridge & pickup covers for some reason the basses look really handsome - I'm not normally into them - if I don't get a new Jazz I think I'll put them on the one I have - bling!! Also like the double bass - I kinda fancy one but don't know if I'd be any good tried a fretless once, but felt you needed some kind of musical ability to play it - they look really good though & would make a lovely corner feature. My Dad's had the all clear for another 6 months - " Make hay while the sun shines, son" is what he says to me - now although it's not that sunny in Falkirk , I know what he means. Say hello & best wishes to the guitarman. All the best Donald
2. Wow - fantastic - just had a quick look - taking dog out & will ogle when I come back. Admire you greatly in relation to the cancer- there can't be many who haven't been affected in one way or another ( my dad's in remission ). My band have done a few fundraisers & are hoping to do something in December - buskingforcancer I think is the name. Cheers, all the best Donald.
3. I like the feel & solidity of the Precision , the Jazz is maybe more refined & does give that nice growly sound that kicks through when playing in a band. whilst I prefer playing the P my bandmates think the Jazz is the best bass I've ever had soundwise( it's a Mex Jazz) & I've played with them( the band) for nearly 30 years - what do they know! Also although I've tried flatwounds I'd agree with Lozz196 that roundwounds are the best for me - if you want a "duller" ? or warmer sound just cut back on the tone pot- simples!
4. Piccies attached - I now consider myself to be an IT genius!
5. Try this link to prevoius post for pics .... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry988054
6. Yes , but messed up attachments - i'll sort it later , or you could check out my earlier post with piccies - thanks for pointing that out - thought i could cut & paste!! What a fool! Donald
7. Fender Precision Lyte - dates from mid '80's MIJ - in an unusual Ivory/Mother of Pearl with gold hardware .Active, , striking appearance , lyte (duh!), & comfortable. Been well used, couple of dings but not too bad . Really a Precision/jazz hybrid. Professionally set up. Fast neck easy to play , but a bit refined for me! All original parts .Looking for £380 .There's an old , and strangely very heavy ,case that could be used if wished . Ideally would like it to be tried out by anyone interested. Any questions let me know.
8. Don't know the geeky stuff but do know that it looks fantastic with bags of character - I know a guitarist with a Tokai "Tele" dating from the same period which he loves to bits - better than Fender says he.
9. Just amended post to for sale as well as trade - see what happens .
10. Yip the T/bird & the Jazz - I remember you had a 70's reissue Jazz that I fancied but missed out on & I really, really liked the USA P/bass black/maple neck - got anything just now? Both are really good the T/bird's not getting used & I fancy a black Jazz - shallow , I know!
11. It's the Basschat Effect! I haven't been snowed under with offers to trade but have been asked about selling price of Precision Lyte & T/Bird Fender Precision Lyte - dates from mid '80's MIJ - in an unusual Ivory/Mother of Pearl . Active, , striking , lyte (duh!), & comfortable. Been used, couple of dings but not too bad . Really a Precision/jazz hybrid. Professionally set up. Fast neck easy to play , but a bit refined for me! Looking for £400. Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV - about a year old . Transluescent black , through neck construction, active , light weight ,slim neck , hardly used - mostly sat looking good on stand . Fitted gig bag ( hard to find). Professionally set-up. I like the idea of having a cool black bass. Looking for £250 Fender Jazz MIM 2007 , sunburst , really good sounding & professionally set up. A good example Mex model. Would keep if it was black, thought about upgrading it but not sure that it needs it.. Don't want to part with this 'til I've got my black one lined up That's what Ive got - what I'm interested in is a Fender '51 Reissue Precision & although I really like the Jazz & T/bird , what I'd like is a Fender Jazz in black with a maple neck. Would prefer something within striking distance so stuff could be tried out etc. Not done this before , thought i might want to only keep 2 basses but then the GAS wouldn't leave. Let me know if interested - happy to try & answer any questions. ps here they are all together
12. Liking the black Precision - even with the mods. I've got a JV '57 precision -had it since new (made in '83 I think I got it very early '85- still got the green box it came in!) . It's all original -I don't tend to mess about). It's Fiesta red - not sure why I chose that colour - maple neck. It's my favourite bass I've had ,although some could be argued to be better quality. It's fairly light & manageable & can take a real pounding . As with a lot of basses theese probably do go for silly prices. Ironic really when I suppose a lot of people bought them because they were much more affordable than a "real "Fender. I remember wondering whether to go for the Squier or a Tokia copy - don't have any regrets.
13. They look like a very nice couple & well suited . I'm paticulary drawn to the classic black /maple neck combo- nice!!
14. Hamish says thanks, and so do I!
15. Don't be afraid ! Hamish decided to get involved in the photo - he's noisey that's for sure. What about the basses?
16. Here's me and Hamish ( I'm the one with less hair) along with Fender Squier '57 Precision, Aria Pro11 SB 600, Mex Jazz, Precision Lyte,& T/Bird Pro. Cute?
17. Varies a bit- but most times i go for my '83 squier precision - I 've had it since new & feel emotionally attached- also i don't feel guility about bashing it about !
18. deffo cool - refreshing to see, I saw clips too & thought it looked/sounded great. A lot of it it is whether someone feels/looks right. I've got a T/bird Pro which doesn't get used much but looks good on a stand!

20. Thanks for that , my serial no is 0152.658.101 so that should be the 1st quarter of 2001. cheers.
21. A bit of everything I suppose - like the occassional ones where comments are made about " your cool bass" - also like it that big whoopsies are'nt mentioned! I do tend to be the one that nutters seem to be attracted to -normally good humoured thankfully. Last year found that a chap I was diagreeing with because we didn't play any Queen had just been in a bit of bother for threatening someone with a gun!
22. I've got a Trace Elliot Commando ( MK11) which I 've not really used much, had it serviced & a new driver put in - however not sure of how old it is - is there an easy way to find out - seems that pre gibson are more highly thought of. any help much appreciated! D
23. Thanks everyone - this might not be my 1st mid-life - tried to grow my hair a few years ago - thought I'd look the biz - however looking back the short, stout balding thing wasn't exactly Gok Wan territory! Ps Probably got the ulcer too!
24. Interesting - I'm thinking about a D/bass- noting all the tips!
25. Been registered for a while & enjoy browsing & taking in the banter. Eventually got round to putting something on my profile- may even add more! Thought I'd go crazy & post for the 1st time. basically I'm 46 probably going through a mid-life. started playing with my old band again enjoying it & have bought 3 basses in past couple of years having had my 2 originals for more than 25- nothing at all wrong with them - must be GAS - just learned what that meant.Don't "need" any more but may try & sell a couple of the newer ones just to get something else- seems to be a fairly common condition here. Enjoy diff music mostly mainstream & like bashing out simple/effective bass lines. As I've got older I don't seem to play as loud ( get less complaints from rest of band)- probably deafness! So it's a quick hello- I'll probably start posting giving my ill informed/half-baked/irrational/considered opinion on various matters. Cheers, DC
