PS if this is related to the one FS in the classifieds then, damn you. I was out at the pub and missed it 😂
-
It will be absolutely fine yes Most solid state Ashdown heads (ie the ABM and RM ranges you mentioned, not the valve range) have a minimum impedance of 4 ohms, so a pair at 6ohms is perfectly fine.
-
Green light means signal level is OK, it will turn red if you’re clipping the input On the RM heads I have made the input clip and it’s not as successful in terms of tone. I always nudge the input gain down a smidge from getting the red clip led going. The ABM preamp in comparison just seems to like being driven hard.
-
I push mine into the red most of the time too. Just sounds bloody great like that to my ears. Worry not sir
-
🤣 Only one in order, though if I could it would be 5 at least 😁 You might be more partial to the new one though, it’s a bit of a departure for Alan in some respects

Me agreeing with Luke wasn’t aimed at you, it was at the fact the thread seems to have grown arms and legs. That’s what Luke was getting at, as I read it anyway All in all I agree that all you want is a little explanation and a small (in comparison to the whole cost) recompense for the remedial work needed. It could and should have been a far simpler process for you

Yes, yes it has!

Yep my ACG Skelf has a reverse 1+4 headstock

Expanded LP box sets - e.g. Stooges Fun House 7 CD 15 LP
Merton replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
I love box sets where you get maybe one demo version of some/all album tracks, B-sides, some live rarities and maybe demos of songs which didn't make the cut because it gives you a glimpse into the wider processes in the creation of the album. But that maybe means one or two extra CDs/LPs, no more than that... -
Sorry to read this As others have said you make this forum a lively, fun place I hope things pick up for you soon sir
-
Correct, it’s an ABY so I can either run into the effects from my Line 6 G30 or via a cable, means no messing around with unplugging things which I’ve had to do mid-gig before when I had a dodgy set of batteries in the wireless pack.
-
That was a substantially more eloquent (and probably less red-wine-influenced) response than mine!

The mismatched drivers thing can be like pissing in the dark; you won't know unless you try. Could work, could be awful. But, you will be able to drive each speaker with its own independent amplifier, which means you can EQ them differently and then potentially avoid some (not all) of the pitfalls of mismatched drivers. A better plan would be to keep them both and then get an extension cab for each (matched to each), then you have LOADS of options

I'm sure his will help even more... the clean OriginAL through my Little Bastard is quite the thing. I'll try to demo that too
-
I’ve not had a problem with output volume tbh, but your point about input gain is a good one - will experiment more!
-
I’ll try to do a demo for you over the weekend. I love it, the 5-band EQ feels familiar from the RM800 and it produces a beautifully clear, clean tone which just enhances whatever’s going into it. The valve drive is VERY drivey, nothing like the old ABM valve which needed to be seriously cranked for any real heavy clipping. It’s very reactive to the bass you play - my ACG Finn 4 gets gnarly very fast but my Zoot Funkmeister needs a bit more of a push from the valve gain to match the distortion. Contemplating a lower gain valve. DI’d and in the mix with a band it sounds like a big valve amp, which is superb
-
Latest version of mine. The OriginAL has replaced a SansAmp and Darkglass in my heart, it’s a great preamp/DI etc. Had great fun with the TonePrints on the mini Sub’n’Up
-
Yep. I'd have got a few but not all of them for sure.
-
Nope, I got 100% too, no guesses
-
Did you neighbours thank you for the earthquakes?
-
I emailed Tom earlier in the year, he's not doing any custom builds at the moment - I wonder if that's stretched to all builds for now for the reasons above?
-
I'm glad there's a lot of love for these things, I've been an advocate since the first gen RM800 came out and I think they are superb so it's nice to have fellow betterer bassists agreeing with me
-
I'm surprised by the lack of comment on the configuration tool about nitro finishes - there's a comment against ebony fingerboards being prone to damage. Perhaps there will be an update on this soon....
-
I've been following the development of these and almost put a deposit down direct with Carey... Went for another ACG instead but I can see either one of these or a shorty Sterling in my future at some point. Or both if I win the lottery. 🙄

You came to ask about Berg vs Vanderkley but people asked (justifiably, they’re all trying to help you get the best result!) why those two Have been shortlisted, offered other options and then have also backed that up with some science. A 12” or 15” driver isn’t slower than a 10” and air resistance at this sort of level is probably completely negligible given all the many other real factors which affect how a bass driver works in an enclosure. Check out Alex’s excellent Barefaced demo videos he’s made recently and you will see Happy hunting!
