Is it a 1x15, 2x10 or 4x10 speaker config? The new TE models are upwards of £600 (for the bottom of the range 7-band models), going to over a grand for the 2x10 12-band combo.
2. I mainly use 45-105, my fretless has 40-100 on it and my 5 string has a 135 bottom B (I think). Normally Status Hotwires with hex core, my fretless currenty sports Rotos, and will soon have some TE strings unless I put them on my J... Rob - interesting point about higher tension practice bass, I've done the same thing with my acoustic bass whch I use for practicing at home. Certaily seems ot help a little bit... Alex, re. tension, surely each different string make has different tension inherent, so the "unbalanced" 45-105 depends on strings? Or am I a sucker for the marketing guff?
3. Had a phone call on Sunday asking me to play a jazz gig in Wallington this Thurs, so if anyone's around and want s to see me play jazz really badly, come along! Think i'll be showing up about 8pm, music kicking off half past. Hooray!
Aloha I live in Belgium and to be honest I'm not the basspro considering gear. So I stumbled upon this site and i'd figure you guys know what your talking about so, here goes... We have a second hand musicstore somewhere near where I live and it has some Trace Elliotamps for sale. Now, I'm playing a Hartke B-90 which has been irritating me since i bought it (i was short of cash and it was a good deal when i started playing... in other words: i need to move on) so i am looking for a new amp. I tried out a trace elliot before but not with my current bass (Fender Jazz Bass Highway One, US) but i remember i took a liking of the trace elliot amp back then(playing it with a gruesome epiphone sg bass... horrible thing). The store is selling a second hand Trace Elliot GP12 SMX 250 WATT for €650 (about 500 pounds) and a Trace Elliot GP12 SMX BASS PREAMP + RA600 SX for more or less the same price... considering my bass, and the fact that in my band i don't need to be thát loud, what would be the best option? Is that a reasonable price? We don't have big stores dealing trace elliot in Belgium (not that I know of). Are their any other wicked amps any of you can recommend for a reasonable price? I don't have any good references concerning Trace, and to be fair, their site looks like crap. Thanks a million Cheers, Brt
If you like the Trace sound, then go for the separate pre+power amp. £500 is the most I'd pay though. If the 250W is a head, it's overpriced IMO.
5. +1 for the Trace Dual Band if you can get one second hand. I think the Ashdown is a rip-off/clone of this pedal but not heard one.

I shall be sampling one of these as soon as they're ready.
Cheers! I must remember to use Google before asking stupid questions. Looks intriguing
7.
wait on the deep impact, chunk systems are bringing out their bass synth soon, and its set to be better than the deep impact
Info please, been looking for a synth pedal for a while and totally not bowled over by the EHX Microsynth or the Boss offerings. Cheers Kev!
8.
Hi Y'all Recently picked up a GP11 AH250...........which is pretty godlike soundwise.... But the UV tube is a bit flickery. Anyone know where I can get a replacement?
www.britishaudioservice.com
9. I have the same amp and have to be considerate in my flat. Stick the gain on 3 and turn the volume down! It won't sound as full - as Alex has already explained this is your ears not the amp - but that's a sacrifice you make when playing quietly.
10. If I could afford it I'd buy your new one so you could fund Terry's. Or maybe I'd just buy Terry's myself to save you the hassle!! But I can't
11. I used to borrow a Bassman 400 combo (I think) with 2x10 speaker config and it was nice. No idea about EQ tho coz I normally left it flat and used my BDDI as a preamp. One of the few amps I've used which competes for affection with my TE love affair.
12. I have now got to the stage with my gear that I can safely say I won't sell any of it for a long time, if ever. But I thought that 2 years ago and have since sold on 2 basses, 3 amps and 2 cabs...
13. I'm building two this year. Well, re-building two. I've never owned one until now, but I do love the sound, especially (as has already been mentioned) with a pick.
14. I had one put on my Status Retroactive when it was being built, so very very glad I did - I even use it halfway thru a song for the middle section, then flip back up again over 2 beats back into the chorus. OTT? Yep, but why the hell not!
15. I prefer Jens Lehmans terms, more fun given he's a nutter thesedays whenever he's between the sticks for the Ars. Totally off topic, but bring on Liverpool As for biamping, don't bother. I've not done it myself but I've heard it being done and it adds nothing to the sound IMHO. Think the GK HF amp is for a mid/high driver rather thana tweeter anyway isn't it?
16.
(You know, lehmens terms and that!)
Jens Lehmans terms?
17.
My first rack system I ever built featured the 450W module from this same range, many many years ago. Again, a really well made unit! I understand that BK actually OEM their kit out to PA manufacturers / Installations. Very impressed.. UK based and not a lot of money either. The modules come ready to wire up and only a minimal understanding of electronics is required to make it work. Though you are working with mains electricity, so its worth having the thing checked over if you are unsure. Sorry if it's teaching to suck eggs etc.. I just don't want to see anyone hurt. - And boy have I seen some lethal elcetronic jobs in the past! Good luck, I think it will be a great project! Dan
Cheers Dan! It looks relatively straightforward but I will be getting my electrician qualified mate to check it over for me. Quite looking forward to this year - 2 little cab projects (one for bassmankev) and 2 P bass projects, plus an Omni15 at some point hopefully!
18. I'm thinking of doing a similar thing with one of these and a little 2x8 cab for a portable low-volume practice combo. Will be a giggle and/or a complete disaster
19.
I still get lost after 28 years of playing it. Its kind of part of the deal. At the stage you are at you just need to get out there and make a noise - remember; there is no such thing as a wrong note, just a poor choice. If you are lost, just keep goign until you find it again. Just play, play, play and have a ball!
I like the sound of that! I keep getting lost at the moment when I jam with some jazz dudes, feel wholly inferior esp given the sax player is an awesome bassist too My jazz playing is cr*p so am trying to squeeze some study into my hectic life! To the OP - well done, kudos and all that. Nice pub too
20.
When I was looking at the 70's some of the stuff was actually 80's (blame the drugs) Duff as already mentioned. Mani for the second coming John Deacon for Another One Bites The Dust Oasis - love or loathe you cannot ignore Blur and Alex James likewise and on upright Jim Parris - Carmel As someone else mentioned the 80's saw 10's replace 15's as the standard.
Twas I who mentioned 10s. Think Oasis and Blur are 90s tho. I suppose Blur existed in the end of the 80s but their famous albums are all 90s....
21. OHM, whereabouts in Surrey are you? Do you want to borrow a BDDI to play with for a bit? Don't wanna see you sell that gorgeous bass, we'll help find an alternative
22. Trace Elliot Peavey cabs Laney??
23. Yum
24. Another "none-more-black" bass! Hooray! Sounds lovely, can't wait to see this one develop
25.
'PS: on the bass-related Equipment side, I think of: Fairlight CMI, for solid bass sampling & sequencing (ask Frankie & the Art of Noise);
Yeah, +1 for the Fairlight! Also, wasn;'t it the 80s that saw the introduction of the now near-as-dammit industry standard 4x10 cab from Trace and SWR (if my bass history is correct)?
