1. Sh*t gig in a sh*t pub with sh*t all people, and I was feeling like sh*t. Really did't want to do it but there we go. Think we played to the fiancee of the guitard and the wife of the singer, and that was it. best cheer (from the bar staff) came when I played Livin On A Prayer's opening riff while our drummer went for a slash. It was that crap and informal and b*ll*cks. Methinks my time in this originals band is not going to last much longer...
  2.
My first rig
Very nice! Some great green loud stuff there Always preferred the SMX head to the later GP12 preamp that came about just before the Gibson takeover. But I only ever owned a GP12 head (pre-Gibson by 1 month...). One day I will own a Series 6 and an early SMX head. I hope
  3. A few days late to the party, but welcome back!
  4. Well done everyone, very good news
  5. Have a look here - it'll tell you all you need to know!
  6.
He is, of course, totally right
Me being the exception to the rule - formerly a trombone player (ooh eerr) and now a crap bassist
  7. Hello again!
  8.
*sets out deckchair at front of queue*
Hey, I was there first! I'll bring the thermos of coffee
  9.
I think both models would work brilliantly with my cabs - I've tried the LH500 into The Compact and the strong midrange and tight bottom of the latter works really well with the Fender/Alembic tonestack and fat warm sound of the LH500. For larger but still prudent budgets I do not believe there is a rig on the market that can even come close to the LH1000 into The Big One - 750W into a cab that can handle it comfortably (note that there are no 4x10" cabs (bar Acmes) that can handle that much sub 100Hz power), near-flat response from the cab with very punchy and clear mids and highs, so the minimal EQ and naturally smooth fat sound of the Hartke works beautifully. Total cost <£1000, total weight <80lbs, huge tone=priceless! Alex
I want an LH1000 with two of your "The Vintage" cabs. Ooooh yeah.
  10. It's been a couple of years since I played it, I *think* it's just a root-5th-octave thing but I'll go have another listen and see if I can remember...
  11.
Nah, I have a AH-300 GP12 SMX head made in 2004. I know that since Peavey took over there hasn't been any.
I doubt it! Trace weren't building anything in 2004 - would love to see it tho so put some pics up
  12.
This looks darned interesting, Alex... Hurry up and build it!
That's only coz I said I'd buy two of them...
  13. They pop up on ebay sometimes, if not try www.britishaudioservice.co.uk - the only bummer is they have a $15 min order. Good luck!
  14.
I was in and out of a band years ago that did loads of AC/DC. They're still at it and good mates of mine. Massive DC fans. They told me not to bother with the new DC album and check out this lot instead. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=67T56ke2ywA
And what do you make of Airbourne? I think they're great! But I like the new DC album too...

    my new head!
decided i'm going to build my own head so i thought i'd start a build diary. decided upon a true two channel amp the clean side being a matamp style one and the dirty being based around a jmp with more gain and a james tone stack as apposed to the marshall one. The power amp section is going to be 4 kt88s in a push pull configaration which should give enough clean head room for my needs. now to order all the parts!
This should be good. You've got me hooked already
  16.
Yep, right hand cramp exactly!! I use the dunlop tortex green picks and have d'addario mediums on my bass. Would one of those grip masters help or has anyone got some exercise techniques, i've tried gripping losely but it falls out my hand.
I don't think a Gripmaster will help at all. Just lots of practice at not gripping the plectrum so hard. That's what I have done and now it's all good
  17.
I do have a meeting in your neck of the woods next week! Seriously, if you want me to drop it off with you at work/home I think that could be arranged. I'd like as many people to try this cab as possible - be good to get the feedback and also help me make my final handle/wheels decisions. Alex
Go on then! PM me and we'll sort it!
Hi Alex After Merton has blown it to bits, can I try the shrapnel? I had to leave the SE Bass Bash before I had chance to abuse it. I've just bought a BFM Omni15 Tallboy from David Perry and am interested to do an A/B. After I'm done I can deliver it to the next abuser within spitting distance of me........ I can spit 10 miles or so from M.25 Junction 11. (Mug of tea on delivery please) Cheers
Colin, would be happy to drop it up to you after I've had a play, if Alex is cool with that
  18.
Quick query on this then : I have a Trace 300w 4ohm min load head. If I drive my Ampeg 4x10 (400w, 4ohm) on its own, I get 300w straight through it... right? If I daisy chain my Trace 15x10 (300w, 8ohm) into the equation via the Ampeg, I actually only get 100w through the Ampeg, and 200w through the Trace cab, due to the ohmage? My simple question is : the two cabs will certainly be louder than one. Why? Is it not better to just dump all that power into one cab? Im a bit of a beginner at this electronics business.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, don't do it. You'll be making the load 2.66ohms, wich is below the rated 4 ohms. This is a Very Bad Thing for solid state amps and will cause the output devices to fail.
  19. Alex says he's working on the badges - looking forward to that! Hey Alex, bring it up to Redhill next weekend and I'll give it a run thru at my next wedding gig.... I may forget to give it back though
  20. I've probably already said this, so apologies if I have - our band flightcases used to belong to T'Pau. Wow. We're so cool
  21. Brillaint it was. Our last public gig of the year, our last gig with our pregnant singer before she goes on maternity leave, and it was an absolute stonker. A few little very minor cock ups here and there but generally really really good fun. The only niggles were my pedal board acting VERY strange during soundcheck. Turned out our male singer had shoved his pedal bag on top of the power supplies for my pedals, making them overheat and bending the wires causing odd power fluctuations - if he's caused permanent damage to the Trace 18V one I'll be angry But I moved his bag, gave the adaptors breathing space and everything was hunky dory for the rest of the night. In fact it was the most fun I've had at a gig for a long time and my bass sounded f**king brilliant, even if I do say so myself
  22. SMX was 1992-1998ish, with a couple of facelifts along the way. Pre-Gibson
  23.
it's all about the components used.
Nail -> head
  24.
we all now whatever make, prc made gear will never be as good or last as long as uk or us made gear.
With all due respect, bullsh!t. Eden Nemesis gear is made in China and is probably better built than the majority of UK and US amps.
  25.
Just to clarify why I don't like it: It's very sensitive, I can't even go past 2 on the dial (which isn't a lot ot all) as it squishes the sound way too much and it also hugely boosts the treble. I've never used compressors anyway, so I'm not bothered really
Sounds just like the older 7-band compressors - it's the same reason I don't like those ones!!
