A cracking example of Alan’s work and a gentleman of a seller. What’s not to like? Bit of backstory to this (if anyone cares 😂) - I was depping a lot in an 80s rock cover band and decided I needed a 5 string to look the part. Being a tart and only playing medium scales, I decided a commission from Mr Cringean was the way forward. Originally it would have been a solid limba body with grunge black finish but then Alan shared a pic of this nuts top. Spec creep occurred, and the Skelf as you see before you was born. Soundwise, this is a rock machine (as it was designed to be!) but can be beautifully mellow and resonant if you want. It’s the closest bass to a Spector tone I’ve ever had, and has inspired my 4-string TKO and the new Holly Finn spec I’m hoping to kick off fairly soon. In many respects I think finally this is the closest to the sound in my head that any of my basses have ever been. Here’s a video of the Skelf into an Ashdown OriginAl preamp, quite a gorgeous tone (IMVHO):

It was my sister’s 40th birthday party yesterday and naturally she asked my band to play, because we can play songs people know with just enough competence that they recognise them. The keys player has a Behringer XR18 desk but not a clue how to use it, so me, the guitarist and drummer all took turns to get it to work with some very glitchy software, and after an hour of fighting it, gave up. We ended up borrowing an unused Soundcraft desk from my mum’s local church and suddenly within minutes had a functioning PA we could all understand 🤣 Once I’d had a beer and calmed down we managed to play two great sets with a lovely, lively crowd, and I have taken the decision to (try to) permanently liberate the desk from the clutches of the Lord JC…

So thanks to @SamIAm and @ordep for their suggestions I now have a perfectly functioning power solution for my board. Marvellous 😎

@eude more ammunition for a Monza 😎

Basschat to the rescue again!! Thank you @ordep 😎

Well when I got the correct adaptor (thanks again @SamIAm!) it powered up beautifully. And then created a bloody lovely hum which I presume is due to the HX power not being isolated from the G30 wireless power. Back to the drawing board… One of these looks good, along with a current doubler and the two Truetone adaptors to get into the HX…: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_powerplant_iso_1ac_pro_modular.htm

Nope, purely vanity and wanting one PSU for my board rather than separate ones for the wireless and HX Effects 😅

@SamIAm has pointed out that I’m a complete tool and didn’t research properly before buying. The PSU I bought will be fine but I need another adaptor first… so I think we can safely say I’m now out 😂

Ah! So it’s ineptitude on my part! @SamIAm you are a legend 😎

Nope - can’t work out what the replacement will be yet which has annoyed me greatly today 🤣

I think I’m out. Well, I know I am… I bought a new pedalboard power supply at the weekend. It a need, more a want. It’s going back because it doesn’t bloody work but that’s a moot point. Also, I may have been discussing bass specs with Mr Cringean again with a view to making things happen there. I almost made it to 6 months 😂

Hi all, I think I’ve asked this before but I’m going to ask again with a few (limiting!) caveats. My pedal board is very basic - Line 6 G30 wireless (standard Boss style power connector) into AB switch into HX Effects (with the “Line 6” power connector style). The AB switch is to allow me to use a cable rather than wireless without too much faff. So I don’t need an insanely clever power supply with millions of outputs, just a simple device with as few as possible. I need 1A for the HX, and the right connector obviously, alongside another ~100mA for the G30. At the moment they each have their own PSU, which is just messy and crap. Over the weekend I bought a True Tone 1-Spot combo pack which seemed to be the perfect solution: “Line 6” connector adaptor Max 1.7A current capacity Ability to cap off the unused plugs. Brilliant. It arrived today, and works brilliantly for the G30 (and even the AB switch should I so desire); the HX Effects, however, doesn’t power up at all. And plugging that in completely kills the power to the other two units. WTF? So… what other options are there which won’t break the bank, don’t have countless outputs and will actually bloody WORK with the HX?

Idigbo is like swamp Ash I think, just a more cost effective choice for use with solid colours like this. Neck stability is fine, it has carbon rods in it
