After nearly 2 weeks of patiently waiting I pre-empted the delivery and went and collected the cab today from the courier's depot as it would've probably been next week sometime before i received it. I'm just letting it get up to room temperature before I connect it to my amp and give it a whirl. I'll report back tomorrow night after I've had the chance to gig it.

I'm the f***ing guv'nor me ok, f***it, here goes. Started playing at age 11, joined my first band at 13, my first proper band was at 17 with a big band. Guys ranging from late 50s to 80s. I had to bluff it to get in as I told the band leader I could read music so I had to go hell for leather to actually teach myself in two weeks. Played with them for 18 months earning the mighty amount of £200 per year (well there were 15 of us) as well as with a spinoff Dixieland Jazz band and was complemented on my playing by someone who played upright in a band for the Maharaja or something in India. Constantly being told to turn down by the band leader while the other guys would turn round and quietly tell me to turn up. Been constantly praised for my playing over the years and have the ability to learn a song in the time it takes to play it through once. I can normally begin playing it right from the start. Discovered after a couple of years in a wedding/function band that there are only so many ways a song can progress, with the exception of swing which is all over the shop, which allows me to play live to a song that i have never heard before and have the confidence to belt it out. Getting better all the time an constantly wanting to improve as a musician. I am not big headed in the slightest. I enjoy playing and would be out every weekend if I could. no ego, I just love to play. I'd also like to add that I believe that as soon as you get big headed and start to believe that you're the best, that's when you discover that there's someone better than you. You'll always find something that you think is better than you if you look hard enough. You can never learn everything there is to know and can always improve as a musician, no matter what level your ability is How's that? too much? Well you did ask

I don't follow - I bought it second hand for less than the going rate for one and got a partial refund when I discovered the problems with it so I'm not going to lose anything if I end up selling it in the event that i can't find a case for it.

I think you may be boned I'm afraid. That doesn't have a line out that i can see, no speaker output and I'll take a guess that the headphone output will mute the speaker. Short of getting someone with knowledge about these things to fit a line out to connect to an external combo or amp & cab I can't see any other options it probably outputs all its power to the internal speaker so that's why I haven't mentioned adding a speaker output

I've had this bass for ages but will shortly finally be putting it back together after months in bits. Short story is that i bought it, bad paint job, buggered electrics etc. I've used rubbing compound to get rid of the worst of the orange peel, polished it, cleaned the gold hardware, fitted the pickups that were in my Goth Thunderbird and am just waiting on new pots and a pickup selector switch. I need to get a case or a bag for this. I've tried it in my Roksak case for my thunderbird but its not even close. I've tried rifle cases and keyboard cases but when they get to size I need they are very expensive. I don't need anything major, I look after my gear and no one touches it except me. a gig bag would do the trick but I've had a good rake and can;t find anything that would do. The measurements I am using are 127cm x 48cm x 10cm or 50" x 19" x 4" for those who like to work in old money I'd rather avoid paying the £60 for the Epiphone one and if I can't find a case for it I'm going to have to fire it on Ebay as I really don't want to spend a lot. Any ideas?

Initially it will cost Markbass a fair bit to do but in the long term they only need to sell as many of these as they have out on loan to break even and everything else is profit, plus while you have one of these out on loan, you're telling all your friends about the great service you've received which in theory will make more people want to try Markbass and will also make more people want to shop at the store that loaned the equipment - everybody wins. its ideal for people like me who have either not had the chance to gig a Markbass head or who have tried it years ago and didn't like it as was what happened to me. If my amp were to break down and I had a local shop that were Markbass dealers who gave me one of these out on loan then that would give the brand exposure that they would never have received had my amp not broken down. Even if I didn't like it I would still be telling friends and band mates, not to mention posting on here about the fantastic service I received and could even review it listing what I liked and didn't like which may be what others may be waiting to hear before going for one.

The only bass I could see with one of those bridges was the Antoria fretless that I sold here a few months ago. It may not be one of those but a measurement of the neck width at the heel may be able to determine whether yay or nay and at least reduce the possibilities. to be honest, I've listened to Mk II, IV, V, Series 6 and SMX range side by side and the sound gets progressivly worse. I really did not like the SMX at all, I found that it strangled the sound. I'm sure others will disagree but I lusted after one for years only to be disappointed at it. The Mark V is the best Trace amp I ever used and even the GP7 2x10" combo I had was good as well. I used a 1153 for years with a Gallien Krueger 800RB and loved the sound - I use quite a trebly sound and the cab was good at producing exactly what i was looking for

Played the first of the Christmas party nights on Friday. My car was still beached on a big lump of ice so the guitarist kindly came and picked me up. Of course, the Laney cab I ordered a fortnight ago has been sitting at my local courier depot (20 miles away) since the 29th so I had to use the drummer's Thomann 'The Box' powered monitor. Surprisingly good. I had it up full whack and not a hint of distortion, although as soon as the band started playing I couldn;t hear a thing. I decided that since I wasn;t driving to have a couple of beers and tan half a dozen glasses of cava that were left over from the guests arriving so I played the gig quite drunk and every song entirely from memory as I couldn't hear a single note I played and managed not to make a single mistake as our keyboard player could hear me and would've said something Snow's 10 times worse today than it was last week so I don't hold out much hope of getting my cab delivered this week

As a current owner of a MIK Epiphone Thunderbird Goth, I find these basses to be very good. The combination of mahogany body and super slim neck with minimal taper suits me perfectly. A very comfortable instrument to play. Being bolt on, its the only one out of them all that allows you to move the strap button to the front of the heel to improve the balance. The reason that there is lots of choice is that not everyone wants the same thing so what you may dislike, another person may buy because they like the feature(s) you dislike. As I say, I am very happy with mine but may give a Tokai TB48 a try

Right, now that I am bit more compus mentus than i was last night. Most of these are set neck but there are some that are neck through. The main differences are no sharkfin inlays, no binding on neck or body. This also means that they are able to contour the body, so if you find the square edge on the regular models uncomfortable then this is your answer. Although these are mono output. most people don't use the rick o sound anyway but I'm sure that Chris Squire had his bass modified to output in stereo. Plus these look more like the RM1999 That Chris Squire uses There is also the 4000 model which only had the bridge pickup but is very often still routed for the neck one. Both basses have been discontinued for quite some time now.

I avoided the ones where the wheels fold in as well as invariably they can do that while you are transporting your gear. I have something similar but with wheels that don't fold in, telescopic handle and fold down footplate
