  1. Same here. Would never want one, but they are great to see out in the wild!
  2. I thought the sound I was looking for was more phaser, but listening around on Youtube, the nearest I could find was chorus, used in a very specific way, to give a slow swirl. Otherwise, I'd agree!
  3. I know the preferred (not cast in stone) sequence is for distortion before modulation. How does this work if you want to use your amp's gain for distortion? Does the FX loop put the modulation in the right place? Thanks, Mike
  4. Dire Straits, Calling Elvis, and Twisting by the Pool. Their first two albums are up there in my all time favourites. Like Making Movies, really like Love Over Gold, and don't mind Brothers in Arms, although the ultra modern production has dated badly. But those two singles - what on earth are they all about???
  5. See Punch above 😎
  6. I stand corrected. None of the sources I found mentioned Thump, and initially thought the two related as synonyms. Looking further, there are differences, especially where sound is concerned. @bolo do you have a reference for the sub 100Hz definition please?
  7. As this conversation comes up regularly (on here and elsewhere), I thought I would have a look around to see if there were any guidelines to what can be very subjective, describing sound. There are a couple of well thought out pieces from sound engineers and academics, and they seem to be fairly consistent (with enough variance to imply they haven't just plagiarised each other). I like this website as they have included frequency ranges to their terms. If you are happy to accept @40hz assertion that Thump and Punch are fully interchangeable then: Punchy: Good reproduction of dynamics. Good transient response, with strong impact. Sometimes a bump around 5 kHz or 200 Hz. Full glossary here: https://michaelrasbury.org/uva/images/notesimages/describingsound.pdf
  8. Is it this month's Heft?
  9. That's some very fine carving @Bill Fitzmaurice!
  10. Import tax (was 6.7%) plus VAT (20%) on both price of instrument and carriage costs. So that NS Radius example will probably be nearer £1600/1700. So still a considerable saving.
  11. Very profound statement there 😯
  12. The dexterity in his right hand on Forget-me-nots is phenomenal! Will watch the whole interview later. Thanks for posting.
  13. Just the one, a Carvin BX500 head (was lucky to get one that doesn't suffer with their known reliability issues, and a pair of wonderful Purple Chili 112 cabs made by @Cosmicrain of Zoot Bass fame. May get another head when I get gigging again but can't see anything replacing these cabs.
  14. The Meters really do make it seem effortless!
  15. You don't say 😯😎 Tom Browne is a classic example.
  16. I know we have the Funk and Soul thread, but thought this was a bit more specific. Had this on on the car yesterday - great, great album, but what really struck me was just how funky the first track, Use Me is. So I started listening to it a little more closely, and what fascinated me was "the one". It is there, but it is so subtle it is almost as if it is a ghost note, a suggestion, rather than an emphatic thump. Any other great examples?
  17. It's that good is it?!
  18. Looks great Michael.
  19. I saw that he may have moved to Cyprus.
  20. Our posts crossed - I thought that one sold a couple of years back... No, my mistake, was mixing it up with a guitar they had sold earlier.
  21. Badlands Guitars, a small shop with a good local reputation in these parts, have sold a couple of his creations, although they slashed the price of the fretless bass they had from £450 to £200. Seems he had a decent reputation going back to the 70s and 80s. Also looks like there are two Es and one I in Demetriou (might help on searches).
  22. They have (or had up until fairly recently) a place in Walworth. It was a theatrical scenery warehouse when I lived there. Probably turned into flats now...
  23. Cab looks great, but it was the Flints mug that caught my eye. Their warehouse is three doors down from where I lived as a kid! I'm taking it that you work in the world of theatre tech?
  24. Part of being any musician is being a band member and acquiring all the skills outside of being able to play your instrument. Personally, I think it would be frustrating starting with a beginner level band, and would look to see if there was an established band that would be willing to take you on. Good luck, and have fun (oh, and never forget you are one of us)!
