1. Hello all We're looking for a new drummer/cajon player to join a well-established SW Surrey band, Sammy Rat and The Resonators. We're all late 40s early 50s and play mainly acoustic-based material from the 60s and 70s - think Small Faces, Eagles, Ronnie Lane, Lindisfarne, Creedence, Glenn Campbell, Kinks etc - but with plenty of Americana thrown in there as well. Acoustic guitars, mandolins, upright and fretless bass, keys, and 3-4 part harmonies abound Age doesn't matter to us, just be a competent player and have a love of music. We aren't out rehearsing and gigging every week, so if that's what you're looking for we're probably not the right band for you, but if you want a few quality gigs each year and a light rehearsal schedule, please get in touch. Oh, you must have own transport too. Cheers Gareth
2. Hi Marc I've never really noticed any drag. I think the oil in your hands keeps them speedy Cheers Gareth
3.
I dunno, I like the new shapes...
Me too, I like 'em.
4. Very nice, and as you say, rare. Definitely a transition bass so quite collectible. Earlier Wals did indeed have chrome plated bridges.
5. Oh no, probably sometime next week. They will call to agree a delivery date as they don't do online tracking
6. Thanks for the replies folks. I live along a fairly narrow country lane, but it doesn't seem to stop lorries using it! We've had skips delivered to our house before without any trouble, so hopefully that won't be an issue. Yes, I really hope the sound post doesn't fall over!
7. So, I have a new Thomann (Hora) upright on the way from our German cousins, and apparently it's being sent via a freight export company who will deliver it "to the 'kerbside' of your property. Delivery drivers are not contracted or insured to bring goods into your property." Thats'll fine and dandy, and they use Schenker Spedition, but does this mean I'll be confronted by some enormous pallet-based package? If you've had a DB delivered this way, please let me know what to expect! Cheers Gareth
8. I've owned a few Bassbones in my time, and while I love the concept, I always felt the tone was a little well, meh
9. La Bella recently introduced these Copper White Nylon Tape Wound Series strings, which are made with a transparent nylon wrapped over copper underlays. The result is a warm, supple tone, and they sound great on fretted or fretless basses. String Gauge is .060, .070, .094, .115, which sounds heavy but doesn't feel it: they are flexible and medium to low tension. This set has been cut to fit a 4 in a line headstock like a P or J bass. Very low miles. £40 new, I'm asking £28 posted or £25 collected from NE Hampshire or Central London.
10. I'd sell the Shuttle, as you've got clean covered by the Demeter, whereas the Streamliner brings something different.
11. I sold a scratchplate to Gareth and it was as smooth a deal as you could want. Highly recommended.
12. Argh! Just bought a new upright bass but this would have suited my needs much better! Damn timing!!!!!
13. That is les chiens couilles!
14. Guys, thanks so much for all the comments. I'm going to try a Bass Max first and see where I go from there
15. I'd love it back, if I had the spare wedge.
16. Hi guys Bit of advice please. I have a new acoustic coming in, my first after many years of EUB, and I find myself somewhat overwhelmed by the pickup choices out there! I play mainly pizz with a little bit of slap. No arco. I like a warm, detailed tone: not too much finger noise, but not boomy mush either. I'll probably string with Silver Slaps. I have a very nice preamp I can use with the pickup. My initial thoughts are K&K Bass Max or Double Big Twin, but open to any other suggestions. Cheers Gareth
17. Maybe I need to source a large box
18. Usually you can just ring UPS and pay over the 'phone once that message appears, rather than wait for the card.
19. I love this cab, I really do, but I have to be practical and move it on as I am not playing any gigs that warrant a cab of this size. This is the now-discontinued TKS 1156, which features 1x6" and 1x15" drivers. Close in tone to the TKS 1126 and 2126 cabs, the 1156 is a good option for anyone looking for a larger/louder cabinet than the 1126, but lighter and cheaper than the 2126. There's no tweeter, but the 6" driver gives great spread to the tone and provides a lot of really nice detail. This cab works great as a stand-alone option. Impedance: 8 Ω Power handling (high average power test signal): 450 W RMS Recommended amplifier power: 150-800W RMS @ 8 Ω Sensitivity[sub][average][/sub]: 101 dB SPL @ 1 W/1 m Sensitivity[sub][100Hz][/sub]: 97 dB SPL @ 1 W/1 m Sensitivity[sub][max][/sub]: 106 dB SPL @ 4,8 kHz, 1 W/1 m Frequency response (-10db): 33 Hz - 10 kHz Displacement: 846 cm³ Measurements (WxHxD): 52x78x44 cm Weight: 23 kg I bought the cab new in November last year. It's in very good condition, just one slight depression in the tolex on the top at the front (which I believe happened during shipping), and comes with the TKS padded cover. The original grille has a dent in it, but I have a brand new one that will be included in the sale. £500 firm, collected from NE Hampshire. The only trades I would consider are for other TKS cabs, namely an S112, H115 or a 1126 with cash adjustment as agreed. Thanks Gareth
20. A request has come in for a picture of the dent, which I have measured at 3.5cm And the nut:
21. I do. Terrific bass. Well made, sturdy, rock solid feel. The adjustable neck system is great to allow for quick changes in action. The EQ system is 3 band, so no problem being heard in the way you want to be.
