I don't know if you're registered on Finnbass (I think you need to be registered to view posts there) but Brycee has a thread about a dirt cheap built in overdrive circuit (circuit! It's a fiendishly simple 2 diodes) which would fit anywhere without any woodwork and costs pennies. http://www.finnbass.com/showthread.php?t=1384
Sounds like it just adds clipping diodes to the output stage. I reckon you'd need to drill a hole for a switch to bypass them though?
2. Meh. I liked my POD for headphone jams and demos (until it died) but I can't see myself using any Line 6 stuff live, except possibly the DL4 if I ever get my mitts on one.
3.
i officially want one. a few online stores seem to have them in stock?
Electro in Donny is saying they have them in Chris.
4.
I was supposed to get one from the first batch in the UK thanks to my contact at Korg. However he was off on holiday when they finally arrived, so I missed out. Apparently now they are massively back-ordered so if you haven't actually paid to reserve one it may be a while before you can get hold of one. I'm now waiting to here back from my contacts in Japan to see if it's any more widely available there at the moment.
I was back home at the parentals 2 weekends ago and Dawsons in Chester had at least 1 in stock. Might be worth giving them a call to see if they still have any in. Edit:- just saw your post saying you had one! They look like they'd be good fun with a looper....
5. I'm rewiring an old bass with 250k pots, Fender schematics recommed a 0.05uf cap. As to why, I'm not smart enough to know but the above advice all looks solid.
6. Gutted for you but respect for doing it for your family. Sadly, I cured my Warwick GAS a couple of months ago but whoever bags that Corvette is in for a treat.
7. Nope, both still available. PM me if you want details, they're 100 watts (I think) and 8ohms each.
8. hotrox.co.uk are doing them at £229 new which is the cheapest I've seen.
9.
ok, have Digitech Bass Squeeze, Fender Tuner, Boss AB2, Behringer DI, Boss EQ
I'm pretty sure they're all standard 9v barrell type plugs with negative ground so a standard supply should work. Nothing out of the ordinary that might use 18v or reverse polarity.
10. Keep your eyes peeled on here and on e-bay, I'd pretty much given up when I came across my pedal with a BIN of £120. It even came with it's own flight case and 9v PSU. I threw a tuner and patch cable in there and and it's not my pedalboard.
11. Why not get a pre-drilled enclosure and a decent footswitch and migrate the insides of the Behringer?
12. Yeah, the output is really weak unsuprisingly. I've ordered some mini pots for the cavity so I'll sort it all out in one go when everything arrives.
13. Thanks, mousemat foam might be the way forward. Pic below to show roughly what the problem is:- I'll hit maplin tomorrow for a cheap mat as well as some other stuff (got a Crybaby sat waiting to be modded).
14. I have an old (ridiculously heavy) Vintage 5 string sat in my room gathering dust. It needs new pots and a re-wire but the main problem is the pickups. They sit way too far from the strings due to the stupidly deep routing. What would people recommend for raising the height of them? I don't have any tools or wood to make blocks to sit under them, which would have been my first choice. Thanks.
15.
Wanna sell it?
Hmm, not really. Bumping the mids up on the amp helps if you go through the front end. I'll live with it for now thanks! Unless you want to swap it for a VT bass deluxe....
16.
£70... just to remove the frets? or any additional work?
Filling the slots with veneers and a setup too I think. I deleted the email as my MOT is coming up and the bass needs some more remedial work before I can use it again anyway.
17. Any progress? I can't wait to see this finished.
18. They sound awesome from the youtube clips I've seen, I have the standard BDDI deluxe and use the preset function a lot although I agree with the mid loss probblem. The VT would be my next step if they were cheaper. Sansamp stuff generally has a good rep, try one out and let us know what you think!
19.
Didn't Sansamp do a Fender "flavour" pedal in their Character series?
I think so, Boss also do a Bassman stomp box.
20.
Phew, that's a relief, after reading all the posts, it would appear that there's only me, and Bryan Adams doing Summer of 69.
I've got to do it for a wedding. I hate most of the songs on the setlist.
21. I love mine but the loss of mids is starting to bug me a little. I'm thinking I should have held out for a Tone Hammer. And yeah, I hear a little bit of compression but it's not too pronounced.
22.
Is it 34"? Looks short in comparisson to the jazzes.
Coule be, the Jag guitar is shorter scale than other Fenders.
23. It's always tough when an instrument you've had for years starts to show its flaws. Why not just try as many basses as possible, find one you like and see if you can swap it for something similar? It would save having 2 different kinds of the same bass.
24. There's videos on youtube of de-fretting a neck, you should use veneers in place of the frets which is where it gets difficult. Or it does if you're rubbish at woodwork like I am. I emailed Jon Shuker about getting the frets taken off my old Vintage 5 string and he quoted around £70 which seemed reasonable. Might be worth checking out with your local bass tech unless you're good at DIY, otherwise you may end up with not bass.
25.
Funny how the colour turns it from an uninspiring plank into an object of desire.
I really liked the one I tried, (black), not exactly a vast array of tones but a nice dirty, woolly sound if you like that sort of thing. Cheap too!
