1. Muse would be an obvious choice, not sure if 'Time Is Running Out' is a synth or over the top fuzz but it's a good line with an unusual sound.
2. Nice, I always wanted a GS to try and make my rig as locally built as possible (I play through a Matamp) bit I can't let go of my Japanese Ibanez LP. Just got to keep my eye on E-bay.
3. Check e-bay, I got an MIJ black knob/green label one on there for about £50. Great pedals, have a bump on me.
4. That's a great looking bass! Is that a Gordon Smith in the b/g too? I'll get some pics of my Streamer LX up at some point.
5. Have you tried replacing the output fuse? You might just have tripped it, esp. as the tubes are all still coming on but presumably no sound is coming out.
6. My audio interface has never had a driver update so playback in Reaper was just a constant, horrible tone. And no, it wasn't my playing. I installed a free program called ASIO4all and that fixed all my problems. Might be worth a try. +1 for Reaper too, does everything Cubase does and is actually reasonably priced with loads of free updates.
7.
Looks like its' a righty lefty nut.
Or for someone who plays with 4 E strings....
8. If you buy Behringer, steer well clear of their aluminium coned speakers. Awful, breaks really quickly (a few weeks of moderate use) and one blew and took my Warwick head with it. I'm fairly reasonable when it comes to cheap gear but this stuff shouldn't even be on sale it's that poor.
9. Matamp swear by JJ tubes, not sure if they'd be ideal for an Ampeg but another option to bear in mind.
10. Also look at the Line 6 DL4 and Boss Giga-delay.
11. I'd have said some kind of drive pedal too as you're keeping it admirably old school. Can't give you any tips though as my experience is fairly limited with bass effects.
12. Bump. I neglected to mention I'm based in Sheffield. I'm also willing to courier at a cost of £15.
13. Reverb swapped for a Visual Sound Double Trouble so now gone. Still open to offers and trades on the other 2. Oh, and bump.
14.
£340 is a fantastic price for the M13. They are £439 new. I wouldn't sell mine for less than that, then again I wouldn't sell it at all
He's getting a HD500 instead! I can vouch for Stu having known him for years if anyone's reluctant to drop a lot of cash on the M13 from someone who's not a regular poster on here.
15. Yeah, you can get a good rock tone or a good bass heavy sound but I like a lot of mids. I run mine through a crappy old Peavey TNT so use the graphic EQ to boost the mids instead of leaving it flat and letting the Sansamp shape the tone completely.
16. I'd agree to a point, but I'd rather have one of these than pay for that mojo. These seem custom made to spec and the attention to detail is stunning. That said, it's a lot of cash. I'd probably go for a Shuker if I had a grand or so to spare, played Finbars p-bass copy and it's incredible.
17. Don't worry, my buying anything is on hold until some christmas money comes in. Let me know how it works on bass and if you reckon it's worth getting one.
18.
Yeah I typed it in on eBay and one finished exactly a week ago at £35
A cheap slice of Harris' sound then. This thread has reminded me it might be worth picking on up.
19.
Yeah - it was good just I think I couldn't find a use for it. Sold it just before Christmas for about £130 I think - paid for a few presents so I don't mind too much. It wasn't entirely flawless however - the neck pocket wasn't the tightest fit (saw alot of V940's with same problem) and the electronics were a bit shabby (looked thrown in), other than that it was a fine bass.
I have the 5 string fretted version sat gathering dust. I've got some mini 2k pots waiting to be installed to breathe some new life back into it after I ripped the cheap electronics out. Was yours heavy? I don't think I've tried a heavier bass than mine.
20. Glad to help! I was looking at the Aphex stuff ages ago instead of one of their pedals but never got round to picking one up. Thank Tom TFS for jogging my memory. I think you just missed one on e-bay for about £40.
21. No probs. Warn him that getting into pedals is a slippery slope. Within a year or 2 he'll have 12 and claim each is essential!
22. I agree with the above, apart from wah. I hate wah on guitar (apart from RATM - Bulls On Parade). I play guitar and bass in equal amounts and after years of buying pedals, always come back to the same handful of effects. My current board is:- Ernie Ball volume pedal Proco Rat (modded) Boss BF2 Flanger MXR Carbon Copy delay (long spacey delays) Boss DD3 delay (set for short slap back delay for fattening the sound out, useful for the lone guitarist) Hardwire Reverb Planet Waves tuner I try more 'out there' effects every so often but they never last long. Personally, I'd got for flange over chorus. If set subtly, you can get a chorus type sound out of the flanger and you've the option of turning the dials up for interesting noises. Boost is also a good idea. I don't have one as I can't do solos. A volume pedal is another option, keep it below max for the main parts and kick it up to full for solos/single note lines. I just use mine for swelled notes.
23. Bingo:- Aphex Aural Exciter 103A I think.
24.
vero is the non-solder boards right? Im gonna check out the OCD clone and maybe a fuzz as well hopefully nice and simple Cheers Luke
Nope, vero needs soldering. Its the one with the track in lines which you'll need to break to stop short. Easy with a drill bit or a tool like a bradawl. Try here for a load of layouts on various boards.
25. The Sansamp will scoop your mids and give you a very Ampeg type sound. It's a great piece of kit but you might want to bear the mids issue in mind as it bothers some people. I just adjust my amp EQ to compensate.
