1. It is a typical result of the people who vote in polls, they don't neccesarily know anything about the subject to make any informed judgement, and the result doesn't really mean anything. It is just TV entertainment. I remember the polls in the music papers years ago, Ringo Starr best drummer, Sid Vicious best bassist....... just fans voting for their favourites. Who in all seriousness would bother wasting money on a stamp and envelope.
2.
If the tone of your present amp and the 600 are the same but the 600 is just 350w more power, then I'd go for it. You don't 'have' to use the extra power but you have it on tap and as headroom. Have no fear you are no more likely to blow your BE drivers with the 600 than you are the 250; unless you are a complete loon and continually drive your amp into clipping... which you won't as you'll hear it loud and clear!
Isn't the 600SMX 2x300w per channel and does not bridge?
3. Does it have a pre-amp pwr-amp in/out or effects send and return? Try linking them out with a patch lead. The switch contacts sometimes get dirty in them.
4. Purchased in 1971 ish. Antoria EB-3 copy, £83, from Rushworth and Dreapers on their own finance, £10 deposit and walk out with it the same day. Sound City B120 plus amp head £85, and Sound City 4x12 cab also £85 from Frank Hessy's, bought with a Provident cheque.
5. Stopped playing in 1980 and thinking I would not play again sold my Hi-Watt 200watt head and two 2x15 cabs, but the biggest regret was selling these two Les Pauls.... I wonder where they are now.
6. Could this speaker cable be referred to as being coaxial? http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/33-250_CANFORD-HPS-CABLE
7. Sometime in the '70s, I was playing in a club in Sheffield, Genevives I think it was, and local hero Joe Cocker came in with two hangers on. We sat with him and he enjoyed the beer we bought and smoked our cigarettes, not returning any. I went to see him at Sheffield Arena in the '90s. I don’t think he noticed me sitting there all those rows back, I’m sure he would have invited me back to his for supper.
8. My first was in 1966 at the Liverpool Empire. I saw, The Rolling Stones, Ike and Tina Turner, the Yardbirds and Peter Jay and The Jaywalkers. Ticket price was £1.00
9. Reading the tales of “Corporate gigs” I was going to chip in there but thought maybe it would be best in a new thread. Last year my band got a booking through a third party who was a friend of the client and our guitarist and had seen our band many a time. It was for a local car dealers birthday/25 years in the business bash. It was at a function room in Tranmere Rovers football ground. I was the first to turn up at about 7.00pm and the car park was chocker with cars and kids, this bash had been going on since midday. I knew straight away it was not our thing, and when the other band members arrived I told them my thoughts and was all for going home. Looking inside the venue, the small stage was taken up entirely by the DJ, he was unaware there was to be a band on too, and there were kids all over running riot. I said I did not want to play to a load of kids but the guitarist said they will probably have been taken home by the time we were due to play, about 9.30, so I agreed to stay. The DJ moved some of his gear and we took the minimum amount of gear in that we needed and set up. We start our first set, kids still present, with “The Stealer” and straight into “Songs Of Yesterday” both by Free. The look on their faces told me they were not expecting this. Then came “Burlesque” by Family and Frankie Millers “Be Good To Yourself”. By now there was no one watching, even the kids had given up shouting for the Beatles. I suggested keeping this set short and having a break, letting the disco get the crowd back again and maybe when they have had a few more drinks they might think that they like us, so we finished off with Wishing Well. I stayed by the stage keeping the kids away from the gear but noticed a lady talking to the singer, she had some paper in her hand, I thought I hope it’s not requests, as if it is not from our setlist we won’t do it. As I went over to see what was going on I heard her saying “don’t worry about it, the DJ has been paid for all night anyway”. She was paying us off, it was our full fee, great, I couldn’t get my gear out quick enough. The guitarist was saying how embarrassing, and how we should have another setlist for gigs like this, I said sh*t, I don’t wanna do gigs like this. I drove home smiling all the way, easiest wad of dosh I’ve had. I remember a band I met in the 70s called GYGAFO, they said it came from being told to Get Your Gear And F**k Off.
10. "Deserted Cities Of The Heart" by Cream. The third bar in four is in 3/4 for part of the verse, but feels natural. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho-teZSjgZY
11.
Ha ha that was good .. Reminds me of the old joke: "Do you smoke after intercourse?" "Never looked"
"Does your penis burn after you've had intercourse" "Dunno, I've never tried lighting it"
12.
Some notes on All Right Now and Honky-Tonk Women. 1. If you plan to play them "properly", i.e. with no bass at all during the verse, be prepared to get stared at - often in a patronising "don't you know this one, then?" sort of way - during the first verse.
This was from a review in a local gig guide... "They get through to the end of the night without mentioning the most obvious track, so it's no surprise when an encore gets called for and they launch into "All Right Now" I'll have to check the record collection but they do it with no bass in the verses, only in the chorus and guitar break which I've never seen before," Where do they get these numptys from.....
13. Andy Fraser when with Free is my all time favourite player, I can never tire of listening to him. Notice on that Granada show that Andy has a split lead, one going to each Marshall head. I don't think he is using it split pickups, as on most pics I have seen, the pickup selector is on postion 2 which is the mini humbucker on it's own. Pictures of Jack Bruce show that he also used the same setting
14. From the TE SMX series manual:- "The OUTPUT LEVEL control is used to set the stage volume of the amplifier, this will normally end up being set at between 3 and 4 on the scale with a TRACE ELLIOT output stage or power amplifier. This leaves plenty of available rotation of the output control in hand for when the unit is used to run non standard power amps that require a higher level signal input to drive them. However if you are using a TRACE ELLIOT output stage or power amp then please note that beyond about 4 on this scale your amplifier will almost certainly be running into clipping." Did this apply to all TE series amplifiers? If so,
Easily competes with 2 loud guitarists with the volume at 3-4/10.
was because it was almost flat out.
15.
I went to a ball, mid 80s, with the drummer in my band. There we were having a pee in a three stall urinal, leaving the stall in the middle free (as you do). Who should walk in and take pride of place in the middle stall? You guessed it.... Mr Deacon.
Wow! Fancy having a wee alongside John Deacons Dad.

18.
If my maths is correct a normal 4x10 with a total impedance of 8ohms has two pairs of 8 ohm speaker wired in series giving 16 ohms each pair If these two pairs are wired in series the total impedance is back to 8 ohms. X and 2 8 ohm cabs gives you a 4 o ohm load if wired in parrallel.
Write out 100 times If these two pairs are wired in PARALLEL the total impedance is back to 8 ohms
19. Bass Player. 16 issues, 1990-1993. Bass Guitar Magazine, 8 issues, 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9. To be collected from Maghull, Merseyside.
20.
If you like the Trace sound, then go for the separate pre+power amp. £500 is the most I'd pay though. If the 250W is a head, it's overpriced IMO.
Like this one Here

22. You also want to check the circuit for the lamp first, it contains a starter switch like a standard fluorescent fitting, (at least mine does 350smx), it could be that that needs replacing. http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;jsession...=starter+switch They can be got singly for about 50p.
