1.
0 is maximum voltage and 10 is little charge.
It is the other way round. From the manual
Tube gain. The tube gain control varies the high voltage supply to the power tubes. This allows a variety of tonal response characteristics from the power amp and replaces the limiter found on typical solid state power amps. At "10" the voltage is at maximum, providing a dynamic, highly responsive tone. At "0" the voltage is at minimum, offering a thick ended, more compressed tone. This tone can also be distorted, depending on volume level. In between settings are best for preventing harsh distortion when driving the power amp to its limits. The effect of this control increases from moderate to dramatic as the power amp is driven harder.
2. I can't remember if these cabs have a lamp in to protect the horn, but worth checking it is ok.
3. I use my Gibson EB3 straight into my Ampeg SVT3, no effects needed. Some of the guys I see with a floor full of pedals would be better spending the money on a decent amp.
4. These are what I had in the 70s. Still have the EB3 but back to cherry now. These were players. If you look closely you will see the Les Paul Bass has another knob. I rewired it to V-T-V-T, I didn't think the treble and bass Baxendale circuit much good and it was also to be able to split the pickups to separate amps. I was using HiWatts in which I had installed matching trasformers on the inputs.
5. To stop the dive on my short scale EB3s I pass the strap under my belt.
6. I also received a tax rebate last week, not for quite as much but I was surprised to see that it was from 2004-2005 and included £20 interest.
7. This sort of question is often asked, but FLYFISHER'S post above is the best and simplest explanation I have read, and should be easily understood by the person who asks this question.
8. Speaker cable can also be coaxial. Canford HPS Cable
9. There is an old saying thats been passed down through generations of bass players, "LOOK AFTER YOUR BASS"
10.
I use one of these to power my kettle, and it definitely comes to the boil more quickly! Take that ye doubters!
I too am a believer. I powered a table lamp with one and the bulb shone with a brilliance unknown, the rays uncovered hidden areas of the room, I saw like I had never seen before.
11.
I have a very strong suspicion that this is an ampeg svt 4pro copy.
Wow! Nothing gets past you. What gave it away?
12. Playing in Wirral last night there was only about 4 inches of snow but it was a slow trek back to the outskirts of Liverpool were I live and roads getting worse on the way. Back at mine at 1.30am the snow was 12 inches were it was untouched. Like an arse I tried to clear my drive at the rear of the house but gave up, then struggled to get my car moving from were I had left it, drove it round the front and ploughed it into the snow on the pavement and off the raod. It was another nightmare trying to dig it out this afternoon. I was trying to tell the guitard that I am having a hard time as it it is bad round here, he lives local to last nights venue, hinting that tonights gig in Helsby may not be practical. He said he had rang the manager and was told the roads are ok around there so it should be ok. Yes, but how do I get to them. I am whacked now. I would sooner be sitting in with a nice bowl of bread and hot milk and watch last nights Coronation Street on the catch up player.
13. I recall WEM amplifiers having a minimum load of 6Ω and their cabs being 12Ω In fact there are a pair of 12Ω column speakers on eBay
14. I moved the finger rest to use as a thumb rest for the reasons you are saying.
15. How does it work if you went out with one, and come back with another. PX or swap for instance.
16. I hate these threads because they always remind me of my regret in selling these two Les Paul basses. I had packed in playing around 1980 and these had been in the loft for a while. One of my nephews talked me into selling them to his mate. The worse thing was, I was dabbling with CB radio at the time and put the cash into this and within a few weeks my head was cabbaged with the muppets on the air. I still have the EB3 although in pieces at the mo' awaiting another refin.
17. I used to listen in awe of Percy playing with the Liverpool Scene in O'Connors Tavern in the late 60s. The bass he was playing had a neck like a banana but he made it sound incredilbe.
18.
I'm pretty sure these didn't come with xlr as standard.
1981 catalogue http://www.westone.info/cats/81/07.html
19. Can't wait to try this out.
20. I came across this doing a google...This Link
21.
HAHAHA!!! Tell that to Tony Levin mate
Will do, when he comes out of his bedroom.
22.
I've tried various compressors over the years and always found they take away dynamics. Never got on with them and really can't see how they can improve a bass sound in a live situation. Only my opinion mind you.
+1 Only suitable for use in the bedroom, pretending to be playing live. When playing live, why would you want to sound like you are in the bedroom?
23. I find the treble control on my Thumb with the MEC 3 band eq is not as usable as the one on the 2 band eq due to the frequency it is set at. In comparison the 3 band treble control appears not to do anything.
