  1. And whilst it's a jam, it's a Ukulele Jam. This means that everybody joins in on everything. A number of weeks ago, I enquired if I could go along with my bass ukulele (Which I've done at other uke jams) but was told they already has a bass player and felt a second amplified bass would be distracting (And who would play an unamplified bass). Then recently, the organiser reached back out to me and asked if I would 'dep' for their usual bass player who is unwell and needs to take time off, possibly permanently. As usual, the evening has a lead (Intros etc, Calls out songs, sets the pace) but also a few players up front, I assume they are the more experienced players but I gather that folks will swap in/out; also the bass player, of which there is just the one ... this time it's me! Thankfully they are happy for me to play my sub-short scale Ibby 5er (I love my ubass 5er, but I do much prefer the tone of my Ibby) I've never played with this group before, but as a few folks have said, they did ask me ... hopefully it is because some of the group have heard me before ... rather than them just being desperate! lol Anyway, roots and fifths it'll be, with (I suspect) a fair few ghost notes and even some bassless passages if I just don't know the song or cannot gel with the pace. Thanks to all the feedback, I'm just going to have fun! Sam x

  3. It's odd indeed ... I'm happy to stand up in front of a large audience and talk (And I love it!), but this particular jam ... I'm feeling very nervous! Sam x
  4. I've been asked to step in to replace a bass player at a monthly jam session (A group leader with a few supporting players ... including bass and a large gang (30ish) of folks who join in). I received the 'setlist' a week or so back and an familiar with about half the songs, the other I've hit up on youtube. All the song sheets have simple chords and we'll have them on stands as we play. I do not imagine that the group is expecting a Guy Pratt level of performance, I suspect that roots/fifths with the occasional twiddly bit will do nicely (And this is in my skill set), but ... First time with this group Playing up at front Only bass player ... so flipping obvious if/when I screw up I sorta know that this is in my capabilities but my tummy is jammed full of butterflies and they are very active! I wondered what tips/techniques/advice BC massive can offer to help deal with these nerves/imposter feelings? Sam x
  5. Welcome to the lovely world of BC @Seadunk Sam x
  6. Bass -> Pedalboard (A Plethora X5 + MXR OD) -> PJB Bass CUB Pro (Using headphones if it is an unsocial hour) Sam x
  7. What is this wonder tool!? Sam x
  8. If you can 3D print with steel wool you are truely a god! Sam x
  9. I would ... if I could afford it! A Höfner 500/1 Violin Bass 1962 - Mersey Sam x
  10. Robert bought a zoom B1Four from me. Great communications, payment in advance of our curbside meeting. Top BCer! Sam x
  11. Oh my word, I imagine she is going to love it! I've one in weathered black but the purple calls (shouts!) Sam x
  12. Welcome to BC @yangtze2000, I play short scale (I entered bass playing with a ubass and find longer scale lengths hurts my back and hands ... cause I'm old!) and have a GSRM20 and GSRM25. Very happy with both! Build quality is good for the price, tho the pickups are not the best ... one day I'll probably upgrade to EMGs ... but they are not awful so I continue playing with them. I did try a TMB35 and found it had horrific neck dive, not sure if the TMB30 does. The only drawback I find with the GSRMs is given their 28.6 inch scale length there are not many strings that suit. Trying them might be an issure as I am not sure there are many (any?) UK stockest who carry them in store, but if you buy from a decent online store you can often return within 30 days if you do not get on. Sam x
  13. +1 - I've also one of each and love them. Sadly neither in pink! Sam x
  14. Fender do one at £1 less than your budget. https://www.fender.com/en-GB/squier-electric-basses/other/limited-edition-paranormal-rascal-bass-hh/0377107556.html?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwk6SwBhDPARIsAJ59Gwf-Sw-3f8h2VW0e20Kp3kiW_UQ9CwxI-kz44XbA8PijWVR76Th3Fw4aAjfsEALw_wcB Sam x
  15. Nice find! It seems to be http://www.rexbass.com/2017/04/1984-aria-pro-ii-wl-wedge-bass-review.html Sam x
  16. On the Zoom website they list an EU and UK version, apart from the power supply I cannot imagine what the difference would be. Sam x
  17. Fair question. In my experience ... Newer tends to mean faster (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law) - allowing for better tracking, more sophisticated IRs, longer signal chains, using more complex plugins in signal chains, reduced latency. OFC most of these things would also require s/w changes. Sam x
  18. Mute is a cool idea, but if at the end ... if other pedals are active, such as octave/chorus/OD, can the tuner still get a good lock on the tuning note? Sam x
  19. Way out at the front of the pack for me is Valerie. If I never hear it again it will still be too soon! Sam x
  20. @dan-horro, nice ... but you need you edit your post and upload as a jpg or png or only Apple users can see it. Sam x
  21. In my OP I shared that I'd messaged an open jam group ... "A few weeks ago I posted a 'I play bass, can I come along' ... the response was 'We already have a bass player' 😕" I found another jam group to play with. A week or so ago the original group approched me, their regular bass player was going to be off for a while (possibly permanently) and would I be prepared to fill in? So trounce off or go for it ... option 2 for me (I love to play any chance I get) Awaiting setlist for the next monthly 'jam' Sam x
