Following on from bj_rocke's Amp/Cab thread about his almost-immediately expiring Ashdown head, what's your briefest customer-satisfaction experience? Have you had an amp that went [size=1][i]*phut*[/i][/size] on its first night? A cab that blew its drivers at the first watt? I've been very lucky so far... the only kit that has ever let me down was my old Laney PB150 ProBass 4x10 combo (remember them?), which blew one of its cones and then developed a dry joint. However, I'd had it 10 years when the driver went and the dry joint was 3 years after that, so it did well... EDIT: come to think of it, one of the pots on my Wal went kaput once too. But I'd had it for 9 years by then.

For me, multiple speakers (e.g. 2x10) are 2-by-10, whereas single speakers (e.g. 1x15) are one-fifteen. There's no need for swearing all over the place and the rhyming slang is just a bit of a giggle really, and anyone finding it an infringement of civil liberties or whatever really needs to a) chill out and be) get a sense of perspective.

At one time, Status fitted a 36v preamp to their Jonas Hellborg models. -- the preamp was pretty much the EQ section from a channel strip. Apparently the output from these basses was simply colossal.

Well, I've always found the bottom end of the neck too chunky -- I have silly stumpy little fingers, so a more Jazz-like neck suits me down to the ground. The only P-style bass I've ever enjoyed playing is Si Oldgit's gorgeous Shuker P-5... other than that, they simply aren't my cup of Lapsang. Still, horses for courses eh? Vive la difference!

I've always thought the Kingbass (or rather, MK's Kingbass sound) to be very thin and gutless. Bring back the Jaydees, or better still, the GBs..!

There's a bit of a difference between that and "8-12 hours a day, 5/6 days a week". There's really no need for those sort of hours at the age of 16, and if someone doesn't want to work that sort of schedule, it doesn't make them lazy or idle. I certainly don't consider myself to be any sort of slacker.

I had one of those expensive looking Wolf/Mazeti 6-string fretless basses for a while. It played really well (when sitting down, anyway) and sounded superb. Terrible neck-dive though, very very neck heavy.

Bank transfer only? AVOID at all costs. If there's no option for picking it up in person and paying cash (& not even Paypal), forget it. Shame, 'cos it does look bloody nice too.

Yeah, the MIDI Mouse is a cute little thing. I've got one and it's great.

I got mine from the Bass Centre, remarkably they actually had them in stock at the time. Anderton's in Guildford also do them.

I recently got hold of an old TE dual comp pedal too, and it's just as good as I remember it being on my old SMX head. Marvellous thing. Incidentally, for anyone who hasn't read it, I can recommend [url="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=337"]BOD2's excellent sticky on the whole subject of compression and limiting and so on[/url].

BOD, that is one of the most useful & informative FX articles I have ever read. Many thanx. I was quite intrigued by the idea of an “evening out” of the overall sound... do you take it to the pub? The flicks? A romantic meal for two?
