    Yes, for me it's the playing/singing that's the most impressive aspect of his playing. Something as complicated as To Be With You Again, and he sings over it AND makes it look easy. How? Great playing. At Bath his fretless work on Words was lovely, I really wish he'd been further up in the mix.

      It's a great result BUT we must remain wary. It wouldn't surprise me if they instead quietly closed the offices one by one while using distraction to avoid publicity.

      Fortunately, I've managed to avoid using rail services for the past few years.

      It occurs to me, though, that perhaps they should look to attract customers (like me) back rather than save costs.

    Our Train To Skaville gig on Saturday night at Trowbridge Conservative Club was excellent. Great crowd, danced to everything (even the soundcheck) and loved us to bits. Very very hot, I mean blistering -- my shirt and facetowel were both wringing wet by the end, if we play there again I'm taking a fan -- and thanks to the low ceiling and concrete floor, mahoosively loud too. At one point I took an earplug out, winced and put it straight back in.

    Oh the lustre was back last night, in absolute spades. It was the best I've seen them in years. For anyone who's interested, the set was: I'm off to make a playlist of it

    I tried to get a photo of Mark's pedalboard at the end, but was hustled away from the front of the stage by a sweaty wheezing Forum employee whose sole job was to hassle people into leaving, so came away empty handed. So I'm still none the wiser. The only things I could make out were a Boss tuner, an old Eventide unit of some sort and a Moogerfooger, but I don't know which one.

    Yes, superb gig - they looked like they were having a whale of a time on stage. Great to hear some proper oldies in the set, I swear I squealed like an excited child when started. 😄 I do wonder if perhaps we're seeing the farewell tour here though...

    I'm with you 100% there. I would far rather play with average musos who were lovely people, than with virtuosos who were utter gits. Luckily I get the best of both worlds... both bands are git-free zones, my 20 bandmates are all wonderful friends and I love em to bits, and they're all super musicians and performers too. I'm very lucky, but if I was to lose these two bands I'm not sure if I'd carry on.

    It'd go down a storm on the continent, they still love their fusion over there. Mike Stern's latest European tour for example, he had 9 dates in France with 8 in Spain and 5 in Germany coming up. One in the UK.

    I did that once in a shop many moons ago (back when I still went into music shops occasionally)... asked to try something, the sales guy plugged it in and went wickety-wackity-wock (badly) for several minutes and then handed it to me. I played 5 notes, just the open strings, then said "nah, don't like it" and handed it back. Even if I'd adored it, I wouldn't have bought it off him.

    I adore fusion - there, I said it - and I like what I've heard of this so far, enough that I'll probably stump up the cash for the whole thing. I agree with @Bevan7, fusion seems to be an easy target for scorn - indeed I recall one former member of this parish making more than one 'joke' about what he believed were the illegal sexual preferences of fusion fans. Laugh? I nearly did. Anyway. Whilst I'm quite happy with the guitar as the lead instrument, I agree that it would be interesting to hear another on there. Much of Mike Stern's work involves a sax taking a co-lead role and it works very well.

    I know. It's galling isn't it? I've stopped looking in the basses marketplace because I'm fed up of just whimpering at things.
