  1. People who have inspired or made an impact on me over the years... Horace Panter Mark King Tony Butler John Taylor Nick Beggs Geddy Jaco Jamerson Pino Marcus Miller Jonas Hellborg John Giblin Mo Foster Michael Manring
  2. Oh good choice, sir. What a superb album. Bass tones to die for.
  3. My band's Farcebook page is being inundated with things like this... The scammers get a temporary guest account from FB (Guest 4756 in this case); the temp account lasts for 24 hours, then disappears. If you click on the link, they gain access to control your FB account. Not much you can do about it as the guest account, now with access to your account, has gone. It's happening to loads of bands that we know, apparently it has been relentless this whole weekend. There are some absolute wucking fankers out there.
  4. Having read this, I've realised that my signature is/was possibly a bijou bit on the, errm shall we say substantial side, so I've truncated it a bit.
  5. Song of Blood - Linton Kwesi Johnson
  6. Oh blige, those string angles are making me itch. I bet it gets through a lot of G strings.
  7. And the reason for that is that he knows he'd have the devil's own job selling that cab. People generally just aren't buying huge heavy cabs any more, not like they used to. In terms of your actual query, yes, maHOOsive overkill. You can get perfectly good recorded results using amp and cab modelling.
  8. I would far, far rather do three properly than 10 in a slapdash fashion. Obvs a lot depends on what the songs are, how familiar with them you all are, etc. I'm in a fledgling prog project, we've agreed to work on 3 songs with the first rehearsal two weeks from today, one of the songs is ten minutes long.
  9. Get thee to a prog band!
  10. We all have favourite albums and favourites tracks from them. But what is your favourite sequence of 3 songs from an album? Not just your favourite 3 from an album, but 3 consecutive songs. Mine are Manhattan Project -> Marathon -> Territories, from Rush's 'Power Windows'. They're great songs anyway, but the three together are just a stunning combination. Over to you, BC Massive.
  11. I meant, why is it turned facing the audience.
  12. The only basses of mine that have anything approaching names are Jayray (because that's what it is... a 'Ray with a fretless Jaydee neck) and Skabass (because, errm, that's what it is... a 2-tone themed thing). All the others have names like 'the Spector' and 'the Shuke' and 'the Wal'.
  13. £65 inc. postage. Bank transfer or PayPal goods/services. Alternatively, pop round and pick them up for cash. I'm told I make good tea. EMG 35HZ Passive 4 String Bass Pickup pair. Taken from a Spector Q4. EMG say: "Part of EMG's HZ Extended Series line, the 35HZ, with its modern appearance is actually a product of 30+ years of design experience This passive model features a dual-coil design for low noise and plenty of output. Using EMG's "CS" design (Ceramic and Steel), the resulting tone is much warmer as a result of the higher inductance of the steel, and thus has a smoother attack and a flatter high end. All of the HZ bass models feature solid bar magnets that cover the entire width of the strings so any string layout can be used. This model uses an extended housing that is 3.5 inches (89mm), perfect for four string spacing’s. From classic rock to heavy metal this pickup performs." Working perfectly and in very good physical condition with no obtrusive marks. Plenty of length in the cables, cores ready for stripping and tinning. Wiring instructions can be found at the product webpage: https://www.emgpickups.com/35hz.html They can be coil-tapped, very effectively. Adds a different colour to the ol' tonal palette. Pickup fixing screws included, but no other hardware.
  14. OK, I would be intrigued to know why.
  15. A few posts have been hidden pending admin investigation. Nothing has been deleted.
  16. Or in other words, there's a difference of opinion.
  17. Hell yes. People slag off 80s music but it was an amazing decade for bass.
  18. A Tune Bass Maniac or one of its Bass Collection clones would work well too. Lighter than an Aria but still a real 80s vibe.
  19. Nutmeg City Limits - Ike & Tina
  20. Good list, not too much slap on there at all. Do you have any keyboard ability? Some of those are crying out for a bit of synth bass. Pick up a cheap Novation and away you go.
