1. G&L and their tribute counterparts are excellent. I have a tribute l2000 , own of the last korean made ones, and it's fantastic. The USA ones are better, probably the best production basses I've ever tried IMO ,but value for money the tributes rock. The headstock is probably a bit unnecessarily big but a minor flaw IMO.
2. I have one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-T-T-Amp-HiFi-Audio-Amplifier-5A-PSU-TA2020-IN-UK-/170861399700?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Amplifiers&hash=item27c8220e94 Very nice amp but never considered plugging a bass in to it.
3. Off memory slightly deeper/rounder at the back. I preffered it to the ray 34 very punchy
4. The output is hot but I usually just turn the volume down if I need. I wonder if it could be modded slightly just to cut the output
5. Is that instead of the sterling by musicman range?
6. I have a white one Nice to play, great neck, initially awkward shape but you get used to it. You can get more bass for you money, but can you beat it for looks?
7. Got taken to a gig of theirs a couple months ago, was a lot of fun! Jarvis cocker was there too...
8. Not a million miles away from my g&l. New someone who used to get a great live tone out of it, very powerful.
9. Best bass I've ever played was a celinder jazz!
10. What do those big nords sound like? Saw a 5 or 6 string version at the London show but didn't get round to playing it
11. Not sure about the 300 but I've played the 500 and it's lovely
12. I'm wondering how different the regular 60s jazz is? Is it just the finish (and price). As far as I can tell it has the same pickups
13. so i opened it up and now I'm 90% sure it has a dodgy capacitor, i can hear it hiss inside the amp itself. I can't pin down the exact component but it's likely. They are probably el cheapo chinese caps which would explain why this problem crops up. Will speak to the shop and see what they say but I think this is quite fixable. Apart from that it sounds awesome. Deanow i would suspect yours has developed a similar issue, I.ll let you know if my suspicions are right, if they are having it fixed would not cost much. Could even be worth having all the green caps swapped for some higher grade ones whilst at it as they will go eventually.
14. draggin up an old thread here... but my new Promethean is hissing... There are two sources, one is the pre-amp which is normal, increases with gain treble etc, that's not the issue though.. There is a constant hiss even when muted with nothing plugged in and it is independent of the gain and master and tone controls. It does seem to slightly change when I hit the EQ on and off (this is still muted). I don't think this hiss propagates to the headphone socket but I need to investigate that further, but the speaker does still hiss when headphones are plugged it. It seems to get a little bit louder/changes frequency after the amp being on a few seconds, then stays constant. It's not very loud, probably without the tweeter it would be fairly quiet but it is certainly noticeable. Don't know if I should take it back or not, it can't be replaced as there aren't any more units left! I took the top off to look at the jack input as mentioned above and I couldn't see anything obviously wrong with it, although I do feel it might not be quite right at lower volume so could well be the same issue. Any thoughts/suggestions?
15. Presumably you are talking about the original 110 promethean? I've had only about an hour or so last night to try out my new promethan combo. All I can tell so far is that by nature it's a very tight sounding bit of kit, It's very different to the warwick/ashdown setup I was using which was very open . On a practical level it can't be beaten at it's price though, it's tiny and loud, but ultimately it is a 110 in a tiny box so whilst loud probably wouldn't sound as big as the Fender. The vibe control is pretty cool and sounds positively vintage. I've already found a problem with one of the screw holes, one of them hasn't been lubricated properly and doesn't go in very easily, something I can probably fix witha bit of wd40 or something but doesn't bode well for the rest of it's construction :/ . I will get more chance to play with it tonight, so can offer some more feedback then You will have trouble finding one in the uk, although they are in stock at thomann.
16. I spoke to the endorser of the line at the show and he said that the current line is going and he didn't understand why they were making a 15" combo and thought it was pretty stupid. I knew there were supply issues but hadn't seen this thread. One of the uk main stockists said they probably won't bother with it as it is a bit pointless as it's massive and the head is not removable. There is apparently some issue with the factory which is part of the reason. I imagine the head is to better compete with the gk 200w head so i would expect it to be cheaper at least so at least adds competition there. I ended up buying the 110 combo on the spot (although I am still yet to physically pick it up from the shop as it was a little awkward for the train) as it just ticked every box. apparently Ibanez tried to buy it back off the shop because they don't have any! A 112 version would have been killer I think.
17.
Was that the Enfield basses on the Sims stand? http://www.enfieldguitars.com/
The main idea of it is to have jazz, p, and musicman sounds all in one. I easily got a jazz sound out of it, not 100% sure if i got P and J. The tonal options on it are probably only outdone by a variax, you can run passive, active (up to 18db bass boost!) pan the pickups run it all in series etc. The really neat feature was that the volume output stayed the same when you switched between the pickup options, some clever electronics taking care of all that for you. Probably wouldn't go for one myself but it gets a thumbs up.
18. I went to the stompbox/fxpedals shop stand to see if iId like any effects and came away with an Ibanez Promethean combo :/. Really nice guys, they even called over the endorser of the amp too, who in turn went over to the g&l stand to get me one to try out the bass with. Fortunately they are quite near my work so will be picking it up this week rather than carrying the box home on the train. Apparently it's one of the last ones in the country, Ibanez have stopped manufacturing them.
19. did anyone go to the doug wimbish show? what was that all about?
20. Thanks urb, think i'll head down for the afternoon then, a masterclass or two sounds like a great idea.
21. not the greatest feedback... i'm tempted to go today, and have nothing else to do, recommended?
22. Other than the finish is there actually anything different between this and the regular MIM 60s? I suppose the up side is that if it gets dinged it doesn't matter The MIM 60s are already supposed to be great. p.s it does look great, I love the satin/nitro finish.
