1. Any opinions on the extension cab? Is it better than than the cab in the combo? Probably ordering one this week

Aerodyne

bumping this because now it's mine
3. your tribute got a maple top? Mine has the grain going lengthways and looks rather different. and tone monster is the way to describe it!
4. your band plays loud o.O!
5. looks like carol vordeman.... I've gone off blocks generally. Bit "too much" going on for me especially when they're black. Rosewood looks better.
6. The stuff I mentioned above probably wasn't the closest stuff in retrospect. Some of the Bela Fleck stuff maybe, quite varied though. Even Steely Dan has a lot of the poppy jazzy funk stuff
7. funk doesn't really age well... It's the synths in that album that give it it's real dated sound rather than the music. Some other good stuff I haven't thought of.... I've found a number of cool smaller acts by chance. One of my favourite CDs is by a band called "gnappy" i think they are defunkt now, can't find out anything about them. Pickuped up a cd by a band called Breakestra, that's pretty cool.
8.
Try Major Minor's Boot Camp Sessions on this very site: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...major+boot+camp Sessions 20-31 might be what you want.
PERFECT! Not sure how I didn't find this
9. It's cool, I liked it when i first heard them but sounds a bit dated to me now. Now trying to think of similar stuff! Look up Oz Noy, Galactic, Lettuce. Bit more modern and upfront. Plenty of LArry Carlton stuff out there if you like that kind of stuff. Actually found out about them via some promo cd which had a really great Jimmy Haslip track on it!
10. *bump* Really will consider any offers, even for completely unrelated items!
11. Don't have an iphone, but it does tempt me to write a desktop version for fun o.O.
12. Hope no one minds me bumping up this old thread but I am quite interested in using the p110c extension cabinet as a standalone cab once I'm shot of my 115, still to be driven by a warwick pro-fet 300w (which is heavier than the cab ). I was going to get an eden ex112 but have measured up the dimension and it takes up a little less floor space (which means I can fit it perfectly in to a corner of my room, those few inches make a difference!) is a chunk lighter, has the nice tilt stand and the head can screw on to the back although I don't see myself buying one of those anytime soon. It seems to be very different to the combo speaker though, for starters it's a neo, it's got a massive port at the bottom so should I expect a better low end? Coming from a 115 I'm a bit worried about lack of depth which is why I wanted the 112 but it just seems like a neater purchase. I suppose I don't mind as long it's not "thin". Don't know when I'll get a chance to try it out, I'm going to the bass gallery soon for a set up but it'll be right at the end of the day and would be lucky if they had it anyway. Cheers
13. Seeing someone sell theirs makes me miss mine! (I am at work) Could I justify having exactly the same bass minus the rosewood/maple difference??? (please don't tempt me ) No better tone exists for this money.
14. maple is softer than rosewood, more likely to be damaged by the strings? I think precisions are generally more common with maple necks than jazzes so guess it extrapolates to fretless?
15. will have a look around the forum for music. it's not so much a quantity of music I'm short of but more something particular to get my teeth in to. Even a suggestion of songs or bits to start on would be really good! I learned how to read from piano when i was a very small child and it never left, as a result when having lessons we didn't spend much time on it and I could usually work my way through it. It's just about moving to the next level. As for choosing the point on the fretboard, I've found that when I do get in to a bit of a groove reading (after an hour of reading a note every 3 seconds it might move to 1 per second), I do find myself just reading in terms of intervals within the key. I was very much taught to be in a key and to have my left hand set up for it. When there are lots of out of key notes it all goes wrong though It's also reading rythym and notes at the same time which I struggle with. Having said all that I've just found a piece that apparently I doodle with my teacher (it has our names at the top) which I'm going to have a crack at!
16. Whilst capable of reading music, I can be quite slow and think I should improve so wondering if anyone knows of a good set of music reading exercises. I know I could just take a bunch of sheet music and work through it but looking for a bit of structure. Generally my playing has involved chord charts and improvising or the occasional 2 bar lick written at the top which I can just work out once and remember I'm rarely required to read a full piece. ost of my sheet music is standard Last time I was given a proper transcript to play I had to work far too long on it. Thanks!
17. These are not crazy expensive! http://www.andertons.co.uk/electric-basses...sewood-neck.asp? I can't imagine a p at the bridge sound particularly great tbh. but I'm sure someone will like it
18. what are dimensions of the cab? I'm looking for something smaller, not sure if I'm reading your post the right way round. Plan is to buy an eden ex112 after this is sold. I think this is supposed to stack with the combos , but if the hartke is bigger I don't think I can take it unfortunately.
19. Bump, now £90! Please buy this Pics tonight I think
20. Cheers for all the suggestions I got bit by the Fender bug and looks like I will probably get a Fender aerodyne to satisfy my lightweight/easy playing/jazz bass (ok it's not a true jazz) needs for now. A quality USA jazz is something I'd like in the future, couldn't really justify it right now though, I'm not looking for a "better bass" I just want an alternative one with easy play-ability, and a more traditional Fender sound. I still plan on the tribute being my "go to" as nothing sounds like it and has that much power, I put it down to the pickup and pre-amp. I will be on the lookout for a used sb-2 or jb-2 as it's the only way I'd be able to change the neck without having one custom made (it would be cheaper than custom made or have the existing one worked on....) Once I have it newly stringed with some lower tension DRs and have it set up by a pro I'll probably stop complaining about it (it's not in a good state, the strings are too tight and old, which is my fault entirely, and I can't get the action particularly low hoping that a professional can. Would love to get my hand on one of those ASAT basses, I imagine they sound the same but I like the telecaster styling and a quick check on the g&l site say they come with the narrow neck as standard
21. For absolute lightness and balance without going to viola and headless I would say Ibanez soundgear, specifically the lighweight sr500. I think it would suit your music. I'm surprised you don't think the aerodyne is much lighter than the l-2000 though, is it a USA or tribute? the USA ones are very heavy. I got a tribute (swamp ash) because the usa one (regular ash) was so heavy (had a used one on sale for not that much more). I found the aerodyne to be light when I tried one, so I am actually looking to buy one at the moment, so that I have a more lightweight bass in my armory. But weight isn't everything it's the balance too, the g&l and fender headstocks add a lot of perceived weight and put strain on your shoulders. Also have you got yourself a comfort strapp http://www.comfortstrapp.com/products.htm . I've been using one for years and it helps so much. good luck!
22. All good suggestions. Looking in to buying a used Aerodyne for ultimate lightweight/jazzness combo. I'm wondering if it would be worth having some work done on the neck of my g&l though, it seems impossible to buy a replacement neck (though a sterling neck might just fit). I've tried musicmans which are wide at the nut but the flat profile makes it, if not fast, very comfortable. Could take it to the bass gallery (easiest for me to get to) to get a quote, it needs a setup anyway.
