I have owned both and the tone circuits are identical with the SBP-1 having additional features such as DI and Tuner out. I went with the SBP-2 as it has a smaller footprint and takes up less space on my pedalboard.

I have a Vanderkley Spartan and GR Bass cabinet. I recently switched from 4x10 to 2x10. My rig is very transparent and adds nothing to the tone. When practicing at home I mostly play through an ancient set of Event TR8 studio monitors and still get the same tone. I also found dropping down a string gauge worked for me. I now play 40-100 Hi-Beams which give a bit more snap than 45-105 strings.
-
That is exactly the tone I was looking for and I feel using the SBP-2 with the stock pickups got me most of the way to my desired result. Strings will also be important. I use DR Strings Hi-Beams but Newtone Strings were also very close. I wanted to try Dunlop which Marcus uses but had two strings break during installation in the two sets I tried so gave up. Edited to add that I found having the pickup height much lower than the Fender specification really helped get the tone I wanted.

I have the same bass and had the same requirement. I tried different pickups and internal preamps but nothing worked for me. The eventual solution was using the stock pickups with an external Sadowsky SBP-2 preamp pedal. Sheer magic.

I've messaged him several times through his website contact form to ask a question about left handed compatibility and heard nothing back. I've given up and gone back to sticking a bit of foam under the strings.

Back up for sale as previous sale fell through. Price drop. GR Bass AT410+ 1200W 4 ohm Carbon Fiber Cab - £900 £850 Including UK Delivery. Includes Hotcovers custom cover. Bought in January and used for one gig. In pristine condition. Simply the best cab I have ever played through. Selling as I have made the difficult decision to retire from gigging so no longer need this beast and plan to downsize to something a lot smaller for home use. All the specs can be found here: https://www.grbass.com/portfolio/at-410-plus/ Demo and collection welcome in Glasgow.

I bought an M4 recently and love it. I have also owned a few more costly MOTU interfaces back when I was doing this more seriously. Great bits of kit.

Further price drop. EMG JAX pickup set for Jazz Bass - £100 £90 £80 delivered in UK. Only a few weeks old. I bought these as I felt my stock Fender pickups were lacking in bottom end. These sound wonderful across the full range but, for me, the Jazz lost its distinctive growl and sounded too modern. In pristine condition with the EMG installation kit containing all pots and wiring needed for a solder-free installation. Link to EMG blurb: https://www.emgpickups.com/bass/j-models/jaxset.html

I got mine from Bass Direct. I haven't heard anything about them being discontinued, they are still listed on the GRBass website. It is an amazing cab.

John East J-Retro 01 preamp. £100 delivered in UK This is the 'flat' version. Purchased new from John in December 2021. Includes both the Fender style knobs and a chrome set. It's a glorious bit of kit but I've decided I prefer my Jazz passive with flats old school style. https://www.east-uk.com/product/j-retro-01/?v=79cba1185463

Line6 HX Stomp in brand new condition, boxed with accessories. £320 delivered in UK. Bought less than a month ago. I intended using this mainly for amp/cab emulations but since buying my Vanderkley Spartan / GRBass stack I no longer have a use for it. These are great and this is the second one I have owned as well as previously owning a Helix Floor. I would buy one again without hesitation if I needed one. Demo in Glasgow welcome.
