1. £1.50 plastic nut from ebay on the way. To be held in place by the force. I will report back.
2. I recently bought a cheap P as a back up bass but imagine my chagrin when I realised that swapping between a J neck and the aforementioned P was not as easy as I remembered. I have been trying to find a suitable J neck to fit to it but the trouble with that malarkey is that pretty soon a cheap P bass is not so cheap any more. The problem is not so much the neck size as I find both quite comfortable but the string spacing. I find going from the J to the P has me missing strings occasionally. So how about this for a solution... What if I simply replace the nut with a J sized one? Apart from a bit of spare fretboard either side I think it might just work. What say you?
3. Merry Christmas Everyone! xxx
4. I'm actually looking for a jazz neck but I'm not looking to pay that much. It's only for a cheapy P copy so don't want to spend more than £50'ish. Where id you get the block stickers?
5. If you wear leather trousers...when you decide not to any more. If you don't wear leather trousers...when you decide to get some.
6. Another vote for Lakland Duck Dunn. CAR, matching headstock, jazz neck. Yummy.
7.
Apart from worrying too much about where all this is going and seeing another music shop go under (my friends) I am fine thanks... How is graphic design treating you...?
Sorry about your friends shop. Tough times. I hope the basses are going well for you. Graphic design? It's not really treating me, more like ignoring me! Luckily though the t-shirts are doing really well at the moment. Not sure how long that will last!
8. Pimped (cosmetically only) candy apple red Jim Deacon. Leather sofa from DFS.
9. They look pretty good, thanks Paul. How you doing anyway mate?
10.
Me? Two basses. One transmitter clipped to belt. Unplug transmitter, swap basses, plug transmitter back in. But I take your point. IMO, strap locks would probably slow you down, particularly with sweaty fingers. Maybe just use normal strap buttons and avoid any jiggy-jiggy butt sashaying.
I did consider a transmitter/belt/jeans arrangement. Have you ever forgotten to disconnect, walked out of the pub, up to the high street to get a kebab, back to the venue, got in the car, driven home, got out of the car, gone into the house, gone into the kitchen for a cuppa/beer/biscuit, gone to bed, gone to sleep... ...only to discover you have been dragging your bass behind you the whole way?
11. Two basses. One wireless system gaffa taped to my strap. So some kind of quick release strap lock would be cool. What sayeth you good people of yon BassChat?
12.
Which models did you have, and were they all short scale? What did you think of them, and are they quite light? cheers
I had a P and one of the Ltd J's. Both long scale. I was stupid to get rid of them and I can't really remember the weight. Good basses for the money. Shambo's link looks like a good way to go.
13. IIRC I had to pay somewhere around £30 on top. It might be worth searching for a short scale Jim Deacon in the UK. They may or may not be, made in the same factory as SX. Nobody seems to be able to confirm the fact. However I have owned two SX's and now have a JD and they are remarkably similar.
14. There is one for sale on this very forum... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...6&hl=ibanez
15. For a little bit more you would be safer going the Jim Deacon route. I just got one for £115 including delivery and a strap and lead etc. It sounds and plays fine and I am only planning on making cosmetic changes to it.
16. Glad you're pleased with it.
17. Always new strings for me. D'Addario nickels on jazz style basses and Roberts "Growlers" stainless on P basses.
18. I'm very punctual.
19. My band found me through formingbands. I also got two other contacts in the same month. Nothing for about year before that.
20.
Am I the only one who opened this thread thinking it had something to do with Si?
It keeps catching my eye and even though I know it's not, I keep reading the thread...just in case.
21. I emailed the ebay seller I got the strings from and they are sending out a replacement. Excellent service that deserves a name drop... robertsguitars-_uk I am sure that name is well known here. £8.99 for some quality stainless steel strings and a brilliant service.
22. I thought it might be the case, it's just that I have never experienced it before. Think I will email the supplier and see if I can blag a D string!
23. In twenty plus years of playing I have never failed to set the intonation on a bass however I just put some new steel strings on my P bass copy and I am struggling with the D string. The open string and harmonic at the 12th fret are spot on but it is flat on the fretted 12th. I have adjusted the bridge accordingly but before the fretted 12th is correct the harmonic is shifting. Also I have the saddle almost to the end of the adjustment screw to get it as close as it is. Is it possible for a duff string to cause intonation problems?
24. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong? After quickly testing out a thumb rest using one screw and in front of the pickup I think I'm not going to bother. I didn't really find it that comfortable and at today's rehearsal I only caught myself playing near the bridge once.

Rehearsed with it today. I liked it. The band liked it. Everybody's happy!
