  1. So I really really really like my Lakland JO but I like lollipop tuners as well and I would love to combine those to. Without having to buy a whole new set of tuners (and drilling new holes) does anyone know if the keys of the HB1 are replaceable with lollipop keys? So not the entire tuner but only the turning bit.
  2. Just got word from Staytrem that their bridge doesn't fit with the Mute. Darn.
  3. Let's do an update on this. I was still not happy with the fact the neck pickup was not working and I couldn't figure out what the issue was. So I took it to a luthier who knows a thing or two about vintage Fenders. He was very happy with it Couple of things he marked: -The neck is a very early '62 (which I already knew): slab board ánd Kluson tuners that are bigger than the VI used in later years. -Everything except for the bridge is original and functional -Only exception: the neck pickup is dead. The two other pickups read 6.3 kOhms but the neck does nothing. It has to be rewound, I'm going to send it to a specialist here in NL to have it rewound. -I've replaced the foam underneath the bridge pickup as it couldn't be risen to proper height -I've removed the foam on the mute to replace it, I don't have extra foam lying around. With the bridge pickup at the proper height it sounds even better. As soon as I get the neck pickup back it's time for proper LaBella strings and a Staytrem bridge. I think. Still hesitant about the bridge; the not too expensive Mustang bridge it has now works fine and the Staytrem has the "wrong" radius. I'm going to e-mail Staytrem to ask what's the deal with the radius and the mute.
  4. Doesn't look like it if you see this signature on a Fender CS:
  5. I had a friend over who brought his '73 Precision along; it has a Jazz pickup in the bridge position and I can't seem to identify it. It doesn't look cheap and Japanese; it has a serial, signature and cloth wire. Can anyone help me with identifying it?
  6. Currently doing a discount Jaco at home. Really liking this rig.
  7. I don't think it can be restored. The termites ate through all the wood, everything is porous and hollow, there barely seems to be any wood left at all. If the heel looks like that you can count on it they ate through the whole neck and it looks like the London tube system underneath the fretboard.
  8. I have a B2 Tetra from '01 which I don't play as often as I'd like; it's an absolutely wonderfully built instrument with an amazing neck and an amazingly pretty ash body. Only downside for me is the 70's bridge pickup spacing, which isn't really to my taste. It now carries Lollar pickups and an Aguilar OBP-1 and it's absolutely wonderful.
  9. Wonder who they're going to pay €1000 to take this piece of firewood from their hands... https://reverb.com/item/65744546-vintage-1965-fender-jazz-bass-project-w-gig-bag-termite-luthier-special-candy-apple-red
  10. I have a question about the Ignitions: apart from all the differences stated in this topic, don't the Ignitions also have wider pickups than every other 500/1 model? I'm looking at a Club but those pickups...somehow they bother me.
  11. Pretty happy yesterday when after a show with an SVT450 (which I really didn't like) the second show of the night was at a venue that had a Vanderkley rig. Epic amp. Lovely combination with the De Gier Soulmate. I have an Eich endorsement which I really enjoy but if I didn't...ooohhh boy.
  12. It was! Sold out house, very drunk people, great fun
  13. Time for one of my favourite tracks of all time, on the Take A Ride riddim. Very rare on LP and I finally bought it last year. For a teensy weensy bit too much money. But still. I have it.
  14. Just now wondering why this topic isn't called The Reggae Dread.
  15. Véry nice. Classic combination.
  16. Ah thanks! That's great to hear. Which colour did you get?
  17. That burst almost looks 2 tone, gorgeous indeed.
  18. But the movie (and the music) is not about blues. It's about brothers called Blues. They never claim to play blues music.
  19. Ray was one of the originators of soul music, one of the first to mix blues, R&B and gospel music.
  20. One of my favourite movies ever. The other albums they made (especially Briefcase Full of Blues) are great as well. Donald Dunn in top shape, Steve Jordan on drums... Big recommendation as well is the Donald Dunn bass book, that includes a few transcriptions from the movie

    Jazz

Hurray! Back at six Jazzes. From left to right: Sadowsky MetroExpress JJ5 (with Aguilar pickups), Blade B2 Tetra Bass (with Lollar pickups and Aguilar preamp), 1966 Fender Jazz, Lakland Joe Osborne, 2001 Fender Standard Jazz Bass fretless (with Wicked pickups), De Gier Bebop 5 (with Wicked pickups).
  22. If this feels and sounds the way it looks, I'd certainly not be bothered by replacement pots.
  23. Honestly I really don't care about originality in vintage basses (depending on the price of course). If the price it's right, it's a good bass, get it. Especially if the pickups are still original. Pots don't bother me in the slightest.
