  1. I have a new temporary housemate. It's an original 1963 Bass VI. Well, almost original. It's missing the bridge and the neck pickup isn't working, and it has been missing strings for years now. Oh, and it has some moisture damage on the bottom of the body. I'm going to try to restore it. The steps I'm going to take: -Clean it, put some oil in the fretboard -Get a cheap bridge to get it strung up with a set of Fender 250B6 strings to see what the neck is going to do when I slowly build tension on the neck -Check why the neck pickup isn't working -If the neck isn't warped, get a good Staytrem bridge for it -See if I can find some new foam for the mute -Give it a decent setup and set of Labella strings Now I have a few questions so far: -Would a cheap Jaguar or Mustang bridge fit this gorgeous instrument, just for the time being to check the neck? I was looking at this bridge, which is made for a 7.25" radius neck but would it fit the body? Setup isn't important for now, just tension on the neck -How to properly build tension on the neck Alright, time for pics! A bit hazy because it's dark here at the moment.
  2. Well, a bridge that is as vintage as possible would be great. I know the Staytrem bridges have a waiting time of at least 12 weeks, and Mastery is great but not very vintage. If that's the only option however, it is what it is.
  3. A befriended percussionist told me a while back he has an old Fender Bass VI at home that needs restoration. I offered to do that for him, and he sent me a few pics. The first thing that struck me was the missing bridge; does anyone know if a "regular" Mustang bridge will fit? I'm picking it up tonight, so updates about year, state and the likes to follow
  4. Oof, that's a nice trio you got there.
  5. I got the 54 in for reviewing for De Bassist (Dutch Bass magazine), very excited. It certainly looks the part.
  6. This is what I use, the Moog goes directly to the PA, basses through the pedal board, DI out from the Trickfish.
  7. Well, the BC Rich Widow is pretty symmetrical...
  8. Took the Acoustic I bought at a thrift shop for €50 out for a gig for the first time this week. Boy, is this absolutely amazing. What an amp. Heavy, though. But great.
  9. Oh my. That looks absolutely fabulous. What a bass.
  10. Well, I bought the Starfire case and it's a great fit.
  11. Sold my Music Man Sterling today. Missing that amazing neck already.

Ah, we've all regretted selling some bass or other.
My most recent regret was my Squier CV Precision. But I must behave! apparently.... ;)

Ah seller's remorse - Every time I've sold a Yamaha Attitude Bass (I've had 4 of them, definitely should not have sold the last one)

@Marc SI haven't regretted selling it. Yet. But nothing is forever😁

  12. I'll sure look out for a blocked fretboard bass from 1962
  13. So I was visiting the thrift shop near my house, I do find some cool stuff there now and then (record player, NAD amplifier) and behold: there was a vintage Acoustic 118 combo there. A bit dusty, but it works perfectly, there was some dust in the pots as well but I had that out with a vacuum cleaner and some knob turning. It sounds absolutely killer! It has that typical Acoustic compressed solid state sound, very tight and an awesome combination with my fretless Jazz. It does remind a bit of Jaco's sound through his 360 amp Best of all: it was only 50 euros!
  14. No luck yet, but today I saw the case for the Guild Starfire bass. Does anyone know if that'll fit?
  15. The first fretless I ever played. In amber. It was totally awesome. I had a fretted one later, and a fretless older one a few years after that. Brilliantly built basses.
  16. Poah, that ACG is gorgeous.
  17. I think Sander can probably provide you with that
  18. That is a killer collection. Love the Foderas. Great to see a fellow dots+binding on a Soulmate enthousiast. Fun fact: my Soulmate was the first with dots + binding (and the first De Gier ever with lollipops AFAIK), and my Bebop was the first De Gier bass ever with dots + binding. Great to see it caught on😁
  19. I rarely play gigs with an amp anymore, but last Tuesday it was time for it again. What a sound. Awesome stuff.
