fatback replied to aceofbass's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
at 30kg, made me cry every time I had to take it anywhere.
Well put Mine is now in an upstairs studio and will probably not see ground level again until the house is bulldozed. All Trace gear should have a sign on warning never to place in the boot of a front wheel drive car. -

Call me nerdy, but I practiced wearing dark sunglasses for a month and it did wonders. Still need to see the dots in gigs occasionally, though. So I put a teensy spot of dayglo paint on the side markers. I'd say if your bass had markers in the fret positions get a luthier to make you nice new ones in the right places. Did that with my old BB.

Wonder how they'll compare with the BF Midget T?
-
Great story Your mate must be well chuffed.

Looking at the website, i don't see a fretless version of any model

Oh very nice looker. How much was it?
Do you know what - I've been doing that with my third and little finger - makes it so much easier I thought it must be wrong!
Hey, nice one Great minds etc. The idea seems to be that the third finger is the weakest finger, so it needs the help.
-
On the one-finger-per-fret business, don;t get hung up on that. I always played that way until lately I learned the Simandl technique for double bass. You just use your little finger and third finger together as one, each supporting the other. Now I use it all the time on the low end of the electric. Very relaxing. Great if you have small hands.
Once it stops being fun, get out. It doesn't sound like you're in an enjoyable position at all.
+1000 Why bother?
I think I'm going to persist with the iAmp. I've been playing around with it this evening and it's such a nice sounding amp. Two 1x12s is getting a lot of support. Unfortunately my wallet isn't in a happy place at the moment. I think trying one and seeing how I get on with running it with the 210 on louder gigs until i can afford a second may be the way to go. Thanks a lot for all the replies. I really appreciate it.
If you go for the midget, you might not even need a second 12 apart from the loudest gigs. Mine with my EA Doubler is seriously loud. I'm gassing for a BF Compact 1X15 to go with mine, but I honestly don't know when I might really need it, if ever.
-
I'm no engineer, I can't see why you would blow drivers under normal conditions unless the amp was faulty. I've heard very good things about EA tech support, maybe you should get it checked out? As for cabs, i'm besotted with my BF Midget 1X12. Haven't used it with DB live yet, but it sounbds very warm and clear. With electric it's very very loud and takes up no room at all on stage, a big consideration with DB (and my reason for getting it).
Cab, always has the limitations, and you can't modify them without a new cab. Amps are much of a muchness once you bypass the preamp.
+1 Also, cab weight and size can be a requirement that overrides everything else.
hey i have a hard case previously used for a fender jazz (mexican me thinks?) it looks a bit beat as its toured for a fair few years but its still a solid case... would love to trade it for the camera rig as i dont have a camera anymore...long story... problem being i ride a motorcycle not drive a car therefore getting to you with a hard case would prove troublesome. message back if ure still interested.
Had one of those cameras for years, and it was a peach. Got nicked out of a car. I was heartbroken. -
Mate I've had moment of clarity and decided to withdraw the Ped from sale. Watch this space though cos you never know when things might change. Cheers for the interest.
Oh goody Low, i know. But, i didn't want anyone else to have it.
All i do to mine is give them a wipe with a soft cloth after Ive finished playing them, thats about all that you should need to do to them . Another trick that i found out by accident was........ i always keep old strings for that "you never no situation" that never happens ware you break one well i broke one, to cut a story short i put a complete set of old coated strings back on while i ordered a new set an was shocked that the time that they had spent in the packet, on the shelf had kind of rejuvenated them in some way ? ?? i was shocked that they sounded bright again, i thought that it was going to ware off pretty quickly but nope , month later an still usable Think what I'm going to do it try rotating them, before put a brand new set on put the old set back on an see how it goes !
Ooh, nice tip. I've got lots of old sets
Is it/they worth the aggro? You've stuck with them so far so maybe. Video a rehearsal or two. invite em over, play it back to them. Diplomatically get them to analyze the performance standards to see if they can be self critical. If they see nothing wrong and don't feel the need to improve you have an answer. If they see and desire the need to change then maybe quietly assume band leader role. The Bass player is often the bands glue even if they don't see it. Take charge of distributing tabs if you can. (Try Guitar pro software with shareware tabs, the tab quality is easy to evaluate and song learning is quicker and easier). Be diplomatic and try get them to learn songs right before taking any artistic license. Artistic license should be by band consensus and an amount does need to happen (its a fine line though). Solo's don't need to be perfect but without the signature licks you’re on a loser (unless your lead is Hendrix reincarnated). Add an extra regular rehearsal of just bass and guitars, minimal volume, practice amps on clean only and run through the weak songs. Insist upon doing this against the original a fair few times before doing it without. Get a song as good as possible before taking it to the drummer and singer for the polish. Build set list from simple songs to more complex. Ditch songs that aren't improving quickly. You can revisit them later if wanted. Goal is get the band preforming a bunch of songs songs tightly and powerfully as quickly as possible coz the buzz of that really aids the motivation and sets a standard within the band. Good luck fella. There is a valid experiance is hanging with a bad band and trying to improve them, but not for too long mind. P.S if anyone walks out in a hissy fit cos they won't join the team then once their gone, their gone. Do not invite them back. They have to plead. If it ends up with just you and the drummer say well thats plenty to build the new band from.
+1000 Very good advice there

Interested in trying this myself. Let us know how you get on, and especially if you find the mod was worthwhile. A very playable bass.
-
No. Only ever one bass, and I've never even broken a string. Although I'm sure now that i've said it, disaster is just around the corner.
Ive got 2 (1 VERY) big rigs, a small rig and a combo for my EUB But they're all at the other side of the globe at the mo down under-er, I have just got a Fender Rumble 100 (the second one I've owned) and a P Bass- does the trick nicely!
Not away for too long i hope. Although I have a feeling there's gonna be an awful lot of abandoned bass kit around the country before the next few years are out. Got my DB from a lad who was emigrating.
-
Amazing you went ahead with the db. Good on you. There should be some kinda medal.

1 X EA Doubler 550w amp + 1 X Bareface midget 1X12 cab for practice and gigs. Total weight 22.5 lbs. Even in largish pubs I haven't come anywhere near needing more oomph. I'll get a BF Compact if I do. I am never ever ever going back to heavy gear. For the first time in my life I've been able to cadge lifts to gigs. It is glorious. 1 x Trace combo at home for noodling. So heavy It'll probably be demolished with the house, as I can't see me lifting it anywhere ever again. Still love the sound though.
I am not slagging off jazz I really do want to learn more about it but it just doesn't speak to me. I have played all the clips on the last page of this thread to the end ( bar the one with men in their underpants sitting in water blowing bottles and playing a flute, that I don't ever want to understand) Cheers Dave
My feeling entirely. I share with you a wish to play jazz with no desire to listen to it. Almost joking. I adore Miles and Mingus an listen to them all the time, but can't get past that. Any ideas why? Love Abdullah Ibrahim and Hugh Masakela, but that's not really jazz is it? I know jazz is a broad church etc, so there must be some way in for me.
right took all you advice moved my hand position and started from scratch with a simple tune free's alright now but i still find im digging my fingers in while playing any advice on how to get the gentle touch cause im a heavy handed sod
Turn your amp well up. btw if you're starting to play with fingers, try and include the trailing thumb technique to mute unwanted strings. A great trick for clean playing (and recording), and you might as well build it in now as later.
