I recently got one for my Midget and thought the handle slot was in the wrong place....then I realized the handle isn't isn't in the middle of the cab. Turned the cover around and it was a perfect fit. Worth checking?
Blimey! Never thought of that. Just checked. You're right, of course. Glad now I didn;t complain. What an ar*e I'd have looked. Strangely, defying all the laws of probability, I must have fitted that cover the wrong way round every single time I used it. Sorry, Mr. Roqsolid guys, if you're reading this
 2. Jammy!
 3. Got one for my Midget. Well stitched, but the slot for the handle is out by several inches lengthwise, meaning the slot corners are getting noticeably strained. I think they'll tear before long. To be fair, I haven't complained to the company, on the grounds that postage is prohibitive for something like this.
 4.
Got the model wrong, its a BBG-4A II made in 1988. Had a quick play last night, it sounds pretty good and the actives mean there are loads of different sounds available, something I'm not used to with my passive basses.
Wooh! Pretty colour
 5.
Does it come with a lower case?
6.
Indeed it is
Oh, I'm gonna bump this cos I want it and I can't have it
 7. Lordy, that is a beautiful thing.
 8. Hey, welcome to BC, Brian. Lots of lads here from Ireland and a few Dubs as well You'll like it
 9.
I'm quite a happy bunny, as I've just collected an ebay impulse buy, a Yamaha BB 4GA II. A 1988, quilted Maple (?) turquoise see-thru, twin humbuckers and active electronics. In very good condition, as new, apart from the gold plated hardware looking a bit worn. Just plugged in and tried it and it plays and sounds great, will go down a treat with my 80's glam-metal band! Anyone got any thoughts on these as regards what I should have paid, any pitfalls etc? Turns out the guy is a mate of basschatter Peteacademy's so I reckon it will probably turn out to be a good deal. Only drawback is, I may have to move something on to appease the other half....
Come on! Pics!
 10.
I've not had my head turned by any cabs since I've had my Barefaced Super Twelve - fabulous cab.
+1 and me with ma Midget. A dozen or so gigs now and a beautiful warm punchy sound. And I get offered lifts in other people's cars. Unprecedented. Yaay!
 11.
Here's my Andreas Zeller 3/4 DB (laminate sides/back, carved front, Innovation Silver Slap strings; bought from Chas E Footes in London around 10 years ago) and my new Eminence removable-neck EUB (Innovation Honey strings; arrived today from SMART Distribution )
Oh very nice That Zeller is the first EUB I've seen that doesn't look silly. Elegant, in fact.
 12. There really is no point me playing bass at all Or living, really. I probably knew it all along.
 13.
Funk doesn't come from your equipment!
Depends what ya mean by equipment oh, somebody had to say it...
 14. Went back to bass myself after a long layoff and found the most useful thing was to split the job in two. Firstly putting together a bunch of exercises to get the fingers working (and buying a metronome). Second, getting well on top of harmony, so i could read a chord chart again (much more useful than tabs). Almost all the materials came off the net. For theory, i found this one good, but the more sources the better the chance of understanding, so i wouldn't just stick to one. 15.
I had to eq a bit to try and get rid but it never totally disappeared. Over half my playing is acoustic so I was never too bugged by it until the pup died. I spoke with my luthier about the threads and he preferred to see less than more. He'd had a bass in where the bridge became unstable becasue there wasn't enough wood to hold the screws in the feet of the bridge. You might be able to just get new feet instead of a whole bridge. I'd offer to loan you another pup to see if it's the K&K giving you the problems but the only other pup I have is an old Fishman BP100 and it is dire (on my bass anyway). You're still welcome to try it though. PM me if you want and I'll post it too you. If your happy with the acoustic tone of your bass I'd leave the strings alone and try and sort the amplified tone.
Thanks a lot, PMd
 16.
have you checked out those alesis transactive portable PA systems? link
Looks neat. Would you need a preamp for that?
 17.
I think most people do play like this. I think the only people who are forced to stretch a lot are some metal bassists who have to keep up the widdly-widdlies with their guitarists. Not much you can do but stretch for that.
Something I neglected playing bass guitar was using open strings wherever possible. On upright I'm having to make myself do that, and it's starting to transfer back to the guitar. I realise now, I was doing a lot of unnecessary stretching.
 18.
Has the problem started suddenly, started gradually, or always been there?
@ beedster Been there since I got the bass and fitted the p/u. The previous owner used a realist underfoot type p/u I think, and a mag. I doubt I damaged the p/u, as I was extra careful fitting it.
It may be the combination of pup/strings/bass that is giving you that pop. Can you afford to try another pickup?
@ TPJ I was afraid someone would say that I guess I'm trying to avoid having to change both strings and p/u. Interesting about your adjustable setting showing little thread. Mine shows lots of thread. In any case, I think I need to get some shims put under to give me more adjustment (or a new bridge?). How bad was the pop when you had it? Did you have to EQ out all the mids? @ thisnameistaken I was wondering about strings alright. I think mine are all metal though, as they're loud with a mag pickup. Is there another way of telling the difference between metal and hybrid?
Have a look at this
@ Mr Bassman I did see that a while back when i was thinking about an adjustable bridge, but I don't remember it having much to say about piezzo pickups in that situation. I'll have another gander. Thanks for all your thoughts, guys
 19.
I'm still experimenting with both adjustable bridges and PUPs, but I've no doubt at all that an adjustable bridge has a negative impact on tone. Fitted adjusters reduce the stiffness of the bridge significantly (the extent being determined by the quality of the adjuster wheels and the degree of extension). I'd guess however that this negative effect on tone would be discernible both amplified and unplugged, so, if the 'pop' is only really evident through the PUP, could the PUP be faulty? Having said that, given you can hear the pop, albeit at lower levels, it sound like perhaps the strings or another component could be a factor? C
I was wondering if with a piezzo the sound comes up through the metal adjusters, maybe causing changes, as well as down from the strings. Or is that a silly way to visualise conduction in a db The pop in the strings is subtle and quite attractive acoustically, whereas the amplified version is huge. Also, a mag pickup sounds fine (apart from noise, but that's another story). btw I get the same whether i use a preamp into the EA doubler or not. I'm wondering about the pickup. It can't be the fitting because it's the same on both sides of the bridge, and anyhow wiggling it about doesn't change anything. I'm starting to fear this could be an expensive problem to solve. And solve it i must; I can't gig the bass at the mo, it sounds so bad.
 20. I know there's big debate about whether adjustable bridges change the acoustic sound of the db, but do they change the sound when you use a wing slot piezzo pickup like the k&k bassmax? The sound passes from the wooden bridge feet through the metal threaded rods and back into the wood of the bridge. You'd think it would have some effect. I'm still annoyed by the attack I'm getting through the bassmax - a distinct 'pop' that's barely tolerable with the mids right down on the amp. Notch filter doesn't help either. the strings (dunno what they are) do have a popping attack but something is exaggerating it horribly. Switching the p/u from the E to the G side doesn't change the sound much (although it cures my feedback problems). Anyone tried the same bass and p/u with and without adjustable bridge?
 21. Nice info - thanks all
 22.
Hi, I've tried to find out how to use 1-2-4 method but not sure exactly how it works - is it just a case of fret 1 - finger 1 fret 2 - finger 2 fret 3 finger 3&4 together fret 4 slide fingers 3&4 along to it together? I've been there with the wrist splints - had carpal tunnel op on the left hand many years ago - I managed to avoid having my right hand done -somehow learned to sleep without crooking my wrists! and could you just clarify what is a 1-3-5 pattern? is that a fret pattern?
Yes to the 1-2-4; that's Simandl exactly. I presume thisnameistaken means 1-3-5 the triad, and he has my sympathy. Major triads without an open string are a pest on DB (I'm in the same boat exactly). When you play one-fret-per-string, pivoting the thumb is good, but it's important not to slide the thumb. The idea (or at least the way I learned to do it) is to rotate the thumb. It works very well. Move the thumb to where it would be if you played one per fret, then fix it there for that chord. Get the extra reach by rotating it. Keeping the thumb in position makes it easy to move round the neck accurately. If you want to play fretless ever, you have to get in the habit of fixing the thumb or your intonation will wander all over the shop. On the shoulder pain, have you tried stretching before and after playing?

 24.
This. To me it lacks testosterone, no balls, no... oooomph. It's like plain wallpaper. It's takes the blandest parts of both genres and mixes it together to get something... bland. It's not crotch-thrusting enough to really be good funk and it doesn't have the edge that is great jazz. So that's a no from me then.
What he said
 25. Cool I bet it's built beautifully. Love those 80s yammies.
