1. Hi guys, I've just bought the bass and the pickup is picking up the E and A strings properly but the D and G strings really quietly. After testing it by prodding it with a screwdriver, only the top half is working. Can this be fixed? If not, where do I get a replacement from? Thanks for any help in advance. Cheers, Dave.

3. Or try a Tech 21 VT bass pedal mate. I'd highly recommend them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_be9GSlt_eQ
4. I've always found that the only way to get that proper Ampeg valve tone is to buy one of their amps that takes two people to carry it!
5.
Should really read 'Because of what the foo fighters bassist has used EXCLUSIVELY FOR OVER 15 years I want to be faithful to it within reason' ;-)
Along with Biffy Clyro, The Stranglers, Blockheads, SOAD, Suede, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Pino, Pink Floyd........ I could go on!
6. Buy an Ashdown ABM 810. They normally go for really good prices, 200-300 and are awesome cabs.
7. Does anybody know if it's possible to buy a new front grille for an Ampeg SVT 410 HLF so it'll look like the AV version, with the silver front? I really like this look and would go for it if it were possible. Cheers in advance.
8. An outstanding example of an all valve USA made SVT. The amp has been recently serviced and has always worked perfectly. The holy grail of bass tone in a box. Why am I selling? Because I'm only now always playing small venues and although the 2 Pro has a master volume, allowing you to have awesome overdriven tones at low volumes, i feel that the amp is not getting the true exposure it deserves. This is the best example of a USA made SVT that I've ever seen. It is in excellent condition and the tubes have years of life left in them. Comes in an excellent condition flightcase. I'm based in Barry and any tryouts are most welcome. This is priced to sell so please no silly offers. This is the amp that you must own at least once in your life! Please PM me any questions or text me on 07581329020. Cheers, Dave.
9. Hi, as the title suggests really. I adore the amp but get fed up of picking it up and carrying it around. The amp itself is manageable but the extra weight of the flightcase makes it hard work. Has anyone housed one or a similar amp in a rack bag? I I'm close to trying it so would really appreciate any advice you may have. Cheers muchos.
10. I know someone who had a RW Precision and upgraded to Seymour Duncan SPB-1 saying it was an improvement.

12. Cheers all for your help. Lots of food for thought!
13. Hiya mate. They're not bad heads but nowhere near as good as Ampeg's range of all tube heads. If you like the Ampeg tone but are on a tight budget, i'd advise go for a PF500. I've never played through one but have heard lots of good things about them. If money is no object, get an SVT 2 Pro!!
14. Hi all, I have a Squier JV Precision which I love the feel of. It plays like butter and has a nice rich vintage tone. My issue is, for the music I play and enjoy playing, my MIM P bass does a better job. I like the aggressive modern tone of the newer bass. I guess that I'm just not a vintage tone type of guy! So I'm thinking; do I replace the pickups in the JV (it's presently all original) or sell/trade it? I don't want to devalue it but would love it to sound like a growly lunatic! Any help would be appreciated, cheers, Dave.

16. Hi all, I have a squier JV Precision which is awesome but doesn't give me the same growly ferocious tone my old USA Precision did. For this reason, I want to change the pickups and am looking for advice as to which ones people would recommend? I've been looking at some Seymour Duncan ones but there's lots of choice. I use an SVT 2 Pro amp. Any advice would be appreciated, cheers.
17. I love the EQ on mine. I've always found the 2 pro a versatile classic in a rack case.
18. I used one once at a rehearsal and found it didn't have any power. I had to have it on almost full volume to hear it and with that came unwanted buzz and distortion. IMHO they're bedroom amps I'm afraid.
19. Could be a faulty tube. It's nothing you're doing wrong. I don't own a bassman but normally tube amps will switch off when there's a faulty tube. Perhaps one has become loose in transit?
20. My humble opinion is; an all valve head gives you something that nothing else can. I've owned loads of amps and have now come back to an all valve SVT head because it gives the best tone and power of them all. Yes it's heavy and expensive, but for me, it's worth every penny, and every effort in picking it up! Although amps like Bass Terrors and effects like Tech 21 do a good job, they're (for me) still an impersonation, rather than the real deal.
21. 500 are way loud enough. They are also going really cheaply at the moment. You won't need the 1000 watt model unless you're planning on playing 500 seat rooms with no PA support!
22.
I've often contemplated moving to a lightweight rig (I even went Barefaced® this year), but haven't found anything that feels as good as a big, half-ton head. I've played through TC stuff, OBTs etc… but nothing has really had that 'wow' factor. My wife would like me to have a smaller amp, but ultimately sound is king. To quote Joe Meek "if it sounds right, it IS right"
Amen!
