1. Barry Adamson on Correct Use of Soap , Magazines finest hour. An Ovation Magnum into ???
2. whats the max power this will provide?
3. it was a way of regaining the music that the youth thought had been hijacked by all the pomp and up its iwn arsed ness of 70s rock ". you aint no good coz you dont have a Marshall stack and Les Paul" It was a Diy ethic that went from music to clothes. Ignore all the nay sayers and do it outside their rules....maaaannnn. Didnt last long in that form though
4. i simpathise with your dilema, its just that 35 years being an Engineer means that quality issues are second nature to me , and it seemed as though you were short changed somewhat. Hope the repair goes well. Make sure you keep the joint under pressure for a good while. the idea of hide glue is that it soaks into the wood, not leave a layer of glue like the filling in a sandwich. i was told this by a guy who worked for Fylde Guitars, so he knows such stuff.
5. why not send it back? if this has happened surely it indicates inferior workmanship, youmay fix this now , be happy for a few months and something else will go wrong.
6.
I saw my first live rockabilly band at the age of 14-ish.... and thought that the upright bass was the coolest instrument I had ever seen....and I wanted one. Who was the band? Only took me 34 years, but I finally got one. And It turns out that its the coolest thing to play too. Im obsessed...I admit it Luckily (??????) Im unemployed at the moment, so I can spend time playing it every day. It is by far the best money I have ever spent on anything....ever
7. i wanted to be able to spend hundreds (thousands??) of pounds on strings and pickups, and buy oversized cars for a period of 25 years or more. Double bass was the only thing I could find that fitted the bill.
8. im Manchester, and uup for a challenge. !!
9. A good place to start if you want to "slap". He used an Epiphone B5, Met him a few times, great character.
10. be carefull not to raise the bridge too high, there is no "stop". the bridge will just collapse.
11. leave the sliders flat to begin. Input gain set so it wont clip at all, sounds not good if it does. Vol. at max. Listen to phase settings and pick the best sounding, its usually the one that works best. Try low cut at 12 o clock(5 oclock is no cut at all, ACW cuts the lows).the more low cut you have try boosting bass slider to add back some bass. adjust sliders to taste, sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve..
12. was it on here that people got their heads together and ordered a few fdeks at once , through Talkbass? I would be a party to that if theres enough interest, although I dont do Talkbass much at all, so maybe some one with a higher profile could do the deal.
13. easy fix. mark out bridge feet position by putting strips of masking/ gaffa tape round them onto bass top. Destring, you wont have to completelly remove them , just enough to ge the bridge out and tail wire over the endoin. the endpin assembly will drop out, its not glued in. Straighten endpin and put back as above . dead easy, or you could bring it to me and Ill charge about £100 , just like a real luthier would.
14. nothing wrong with 15s for DB, if you get a cab with a horn or tweeter in that will take care of the attack on a slow to respond 15, not that its ever been an issue for me. I think if your on a budget dont count anything out until uouve tried it, you may turn up an unexpected gem.
15. surely this should lead to a "better than the original" thread.... Or has that been done?
16. with all the chrome and fitted fender hard case. not sure about letting this go but I fancy one of the Bass VIs. so lets see what happens. more pix on request.
17. and the piece of epuipment is less than 12 months old you dont need a cert at all.
18. downloaded but not tried yet. the one thing I did find, you must use the mini usb cable that came with the pedal or it wont work
19. I was thinking the Danelectro baritones, Ithought they were the first ones In the 50s. Not sure how low it needs to go, its just that some of the stuff Im trying to play (covers) seems to be baritone, the playing is more akin to lead lines than bass playing
20. Im thinking of getting a Baritone to use instead of my 51 Precision RI, Ithink it would suit better fo the 50s rockabilly we do. Thing is there seems to be lots of tunings and scale lengths. Any advice or experiences of baritones welcome.
21. if uour in Edinborough go to the Spiders Web on Morrison St, rockabilly bands monthly, you wont get more up close and personal than there if you want to see how its done.
22. theres some good bands out there to see it done for real. go seek em out
