1. I've played one of these before, good quality basses for the money with a nice sound. Good luck with the sale
2.
I used to play a Warwick Corvette Proline 5 string. When I joined my current band (old school funk/soul/jazz/R&B etc) I traded it for a Fender Jazz. The Warwick just didn't have the right 'vibe'. It was a lovely instrument though...
Yes, perhaps the word I'm searching for is 'vibe'. I would do the same thing if I joined a funk/soul project.
3. My current bandmates are giving me full creative freedom really. We're playing covers at the moment but no-one moans when I throw fills in there. We'll be writing originals soon and both guitarists have said that they love it when the bass is doing something 'cool' rather than just pedalling root notes.
4. My old band supported 'Panic Cell' a couple of years back in Exeter. They were doing quite well in the metal world and still are, I think. That's all I got.
5. It's quite a vague question, I know. I've joined a rock and punk covers band and we're gonna be getting a few gigs over the next few months, and I have a Spector Legend 4. I've had it for over 2 years now. It's a solid bass, and has a good tone for metal and alternative rock, it just doesn't feel right in this genre/setting. I find it hard to explain, I'd just love to have a new bass (just GAS maybe?) The EMGs are sounding a bit stale to me now too - I change my strings quite often too. After having it a couple of years, I'm thinking of selling and stepping up to (hopefully) a Musicman SUB, Sterling or StingRay. I feel, for me, a Musicman will cover all of my genres and I know it sounds great in punk. Any thoughts? And has anyone else changed/sold and bought a new bass due to a change in genre? Thanks
6. Condolences to his family and friends, this is such a sad moment He was an awesome bass player, I used to watch his Megadeth covers quite a bit.
7. Karnivool are great and their bassist is pretty damn solid - sits in the pocket well and has some cool grooves. I love the Warwick tone too. I saw them live and they were at the top of their game.
8. Highway to Hell by AC/DC and I don't really like their stuff. It has a groove though.
9. In my rock covers band, it's a bit of headbanging with my legs spaced far apart. It just happens, I don't place my feet there.
10. I know of the bassists TS posted, and I'm getting a bit more into punk every day. My recent discovery is Propagandhi. I've realised that Todd Kowalski is a pretty tight bassist with some nice fills and good punk tone. EDIT: Ah, I see I missed the ska bit out.. Ah well, good bassist nonetheless
11.
Sorry mate! Re-reading my post, it looked like I was popping at you. I just meant that, these days even a fiver off is welcome, hence it's the thought (i.e. Reverb's discount) that ...er... counts. BC politeness pandemic spreading like wildfire. Get your shots here
Aww, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks for the heads up, not a bad deal.
12. I've not had experience playing many basses but I'm after a Fender Jazz at the moment, they seem to be able to play most styles of music, but I guess there are no rules - use whatever bass you're confortable with.
13. It seems to me that the problem doesn't lie on your side, but theirs. I don't know what this is, but too many auditionees maybe, they've already found the right guy? I don't know but I wouldn't be harsh on yourself.
14. Really GASing for a jazz bass at the moment, and for once, I may succumb to it. I plan on perhaps getting the Squier VMJ - they're generally held in high esteem (for a Squier).
15. It's also uncomfortable for me to tuck my fingers away so they flail. I only use two fingers to play.
16. Congratulations man, sounds like you deserved it
17. Practice the song through jamming to it, your muscle memory will develop for it. Also, listen to the song a lot and know it inside out.
18.
Tell you something, I`d rather listen to Flea than all that musical masturbation crap of Jaco (no not Micheal) and guys like that.
Surely that depends purely on musical taste, and not talent. I find listening to Jaco inspiring, and I don't really listen to much jazz. I also like listening to RHCP, as there are some nice basslines in there. It's all relative
19. Flea is not the best ever, but besides, that's all subjective. He's very good at what he does in RHCP. He really fills the pocket and adds some nice fills.
20.
the last 20 secs is probably the only nice and audible bass part he's ever done
Try listening to 2:30 and tell me you can't hear those cool bass fills. I actually rate this bass player. I haven't heard much of him but just from this song, I like his tone, his style and there's some cool little fills.
21. Low action, low tuning, slap and scoop the mids.
