1. Thanks for the replies everyone. There's a fair bit of QSC stuff on Ebay right now for what seem reasonale prices second hand. I'm looking for solid state clean power at the moment. The responses so far have been really helpful, just trying to get my head round interpreting the power ratings as they're often quoted for 2 ohms, 4 ohms, 8 ohms and then bridged power. I'm guessing, that if an amp says it runs at 500 watts bridged at 4 ohms, then I can daisy chain my 2 8ohm cabs (rated 600 watts rms each) for a 4 ohm (ish) load? Bass tractor, I'm not sure I fully understand what you're getting at?
Better start with splitting the bass and/or the cab into two components each. These separates will have a dramatic effect on your sound.
My current setup is: bass -> amp -> 4x10 -> 2x15. I occasionally pop a compressor or my multi-effects (or both) between the bass and amp and occasionally use the effects loop in my amp.
2. Hi, I've had the same rig for quite a number of years now and really fancy a change. I'd like to move to a separate component amp system so that I can swap and change more easily and try out a few different preamps. Preamp->power amp->cab. I've been able to find loads of info about preamps and cabs and I'm GASing for quite a few different things at the moment (some nice looking preamps for sale on here). But I'm struggling to get good info about what I should be looking for in the power stage. Anyone have any recommendations for power amps that work well for bass? The cheaper the better but I probably need at least 500 watts to keep up with my ridiculously loud drummer. I currently have 2 8ohm cabs (4x10 and 2x15) but fancy downscaling to something like a 4ohm 2x12 setup eventually. Thanks, Burg
3. I like the black font on a black background as well for the item description. Very gothic.
4. I have the 4 string version of this bass and they really are excellent quality for the money.
5. This is properly beautiful. If only I wasn't skint.
6. Beautiful bass. If I had the cash I'd be all over it.
7. I had one of these for years, was my second ever bass. Really underrated instrument, super fast neck. Free BUMP for the nostalgia.
8. I had the same problem recently with setting up my new EUB (Aria SWB-04). No useful info anywhere on the net. I basically experimented a bit myself until I got something I felt happy with. The action on my EUB when I bought it was very low, I raised it up using Rufus Reid's setup guide and then it was way too high. Brought it back down until it was somewhere in between and I was happy with it. I found I needed to fine tune a bot more action wise to ensure the intonation at the 12th dot marker for the octave was OK as well. Not sure if the Stagg has dot markers on the side? I also found I needed to fiddle with pickup height etc a bit as well to get a sound I liked. Hope this helps.
9. Apparently it's only aluminium covered. D'oh!
10. I stick mine in the back of a Mazda 2 with the rear seats down, on it's side with the scroll just over the gear stick.
11. Great work. WIll keep posted to see how this works out.
12. I can't remember exactly. The scale length (nut to bridge) was about 38 inches, maybe 38 and a half.
13. Hi all, I bought my first DB about 3 months back now. I'm loving it. I think my DB might be a 1/2 size though rather than the 3/4 it was sold to me as. Well, I'm pretty sure it is. I've checked the measurements against those on the Golihur site and they fit almost exactly with the 1/2 sizing. I'm wondering what to do about this. I do like the instrument, it has a nice sound and it plays well but will I need to 'size up' at some point in the future? And is this better to do now rather than later? I do sometimes find my intonation higher up the neck is affected by my fingers being naturally more spread out than the notes requires and the sound is a little too soft at times. Any advice welcomed. Cheers, Burg
14. Hi, I have these with me now on my bass. I'm a DB newbie and this is the first set of non-steel string I've played but here are my first impressions: Feel - nice and soft to the touch, tension is less than my steel set (which I expected) but they don't feel floppy at all. Quick and easy to play in comparison with my steel strings. The action on my bass is still quite high as I haven't adjusted my bridge yet (I think it's set up for arco playing) but I'm not havign any trouble with holding these strings down and my playing is faster and more fluid now I've got these strings on. My playing stamina has also greatly increased. Sound - Lovely warm tone, darker and less bright than the steel strings I was using but with a lovely 'bloom' to the sound when I let the note ring out. Slightly 'woody' tone I would say. I think sustain is a little less prominent than my steel strings, the note seems to decay just that bit quicker and so harmonics and vibrato aren't as rich in terms of sustain. I don't have a bow so can't comment on this. Who's next on the list and when do I need to post to them?

16. That's beautiful. If I had the money.
17. Just bought some 2nd hand double bass strings from Alex. Had a positive experience all round, friendly, quick delivery etc. I'd recommend.
18. Lovely bass, and looks like a bit of a bargain. Good look getting to grips with the DB.
