1.
Because they have made the commitment to sell them. I'm wondering if the MBL would knowingly sell something that it as flawed as everyone tries to make out?
Drew at The Great British Bass Lounge was very complimentary about the Barefaced cabs when I was there the other week, as was I when I tried one out. Not enough to buy one though. 2. I was tempted by this bass on Gumtree but the crack in the front put me right off.

4. So tried out both basses today. Of the 2 I preferred the Stentor but didn't fall in love with either of them. The Stentor felt easier to play and had a nicer sound, not sure how much of that was due to the rubbish strings and setup on the Zeller that I tried, but the Stentor still had stock strings and hadn't been professionally setup to the knowledge of the seller. hmmm....the search continues.
5. Cheers Bassman, nice vid - I'd actually seen that vid already whilst researching before I posted on here. I get a bit confused re: Stentor student and Stentor 1950 - so they're the same thing are they?
6. Thanks for the replies. I'm in the process of arranging visits to try out both.
7. Hi all, This is another of those cheap bass threads sorry, but I haven't been able to find the answer through the search function. I'm in the market for a new double bass and have found 2 within my budget and within driving distance. One is a Stentor student and the other an Andreas Zeller (which I believe are also made by Stentor). Which would you go for? Same price etc. Thanks, Burg
8.
SLB100 on ebay at the moment http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3395e1662e
Bugger, I was hoping no-one on basschat had seen this.
9. Hi, I replaced my double bass with an Aria SWB-04 thinking it would save space, silent practice etc. I sold it on after about 6 months. It was great, but mine didn't have the support bracket so it was almost impossible to play due to the bass spinning away and falling over and having to hold on to it with my left hand whilst playing. I would imagine, with the support bracket, it would actually have been really easy to play, action was very low for example. Sound wise, I think the resonant chamber didn't really add all that much to be honest. The sound was quite hollow, probably more like a hollow body electric bass like a Jack Cassidy than like a double bass. It added that little extra bit of texture to the pickup sound when blended in so it sounded a bit less like a fretless bass but didn't make a massive difference. I've owned cheap acoustic bass guitars that sound more double bass-like, for example. I also found the signal from the bass to be quite weak, I had to crank up my preamp pretty loud to be able to play through headphones and there's quite a bit of hiss form the elctrical system on these basses which can be another problem. Hope that's helpful info?
10. Cheers Bassman 7755. xgsjx- I'm currently running a 650watt rated amp through these cabs and it is sometimes a struggle to hear myself above the drummer and our 2 guitarists in what is quite a small rehearsal space. I'm just guessing that 2x185watts will struggle a bit. I don't tend to go above half volume on my current amp though so we'll see. I'm also guessing that the stereo power of the amp at 8ohms won't have enough oomph to get the best out of the cabs I currently have. Again, until I actually try it out I won't know. Wanted to check the bridged daisy chained operation for safety more than anything else.
11. My TW Curbow was definitely luthite. Bright red finish.
12. I'm reviving this thread for more advice. So, I bought myself a 3Leaf Enabler to use as a preamp (awesome bit of kit, thoroughly recommended) and a QSC RMX 350 as my power stage. I'm planning to run it in bridged mode to get 830watts at 4ohm. However, as I currently have 2 8ohm cabs, will this be safe if I daisy chain my 2 8ohm cabs together? Both cabs are rated at around 650watts but I'm wondering if the amp will run a 4ohm load in this way? Wiring would be as below. bass -> preamp -> power amp -> cab -> cab I'll also try the power amp in stereo - 2x185watts at 8ohms per side. But I don't think that will compete with my loud drummer. Any advice appreciated.
13. I had a Tanglewood Curbow for years. You soon get used to the unusual shape. The necks are a bit flimsy though. This one is very pretty, I'd be interested in how they got luthite to look like that.
14. http://statii.com/status_cats/catalogues/10/index.html That's as much as I know about it. I'm sure there'll be people on statii who know more.
15. Using a full length mirror to watch yourself as you play is a really useful way to check your posture and to make sure everything is nicely balanced.
16. Hi Badboy, No not really. For me the size isn't an issue. The entire rig is essentially in storage in my band's jam room and we don't gig often so transport and space etc aren't a problem for me. I just fancy a change as I've had this for about 6-7 years now and it's pretty much the only amp I've ever used. I'd like to get a nice power amp and then trial lots of different preamps and cabs and get more experience of trying different setups. I'd need to sell this on to be able to raise the funds to do that though.
17. I recently sold off my DB to get an EUB and bought an Aria SWB-04. I wanted something portable that I could practice on without waking the baby. This I have also sold on as it didn't have the same feel or sound to a real DB and despite being a great instrument, I just couldn't get on with it.
18. Hi Badboy, Yep, this is mine. To be honest, I think you'll find that both of these are too heavy for you. I'm 5'11", 14 stone, and can just about get it off the floor. I've only taken it out of our jam room twice for gigs and it was manageable between me and our drummer but he wasn't happy. The 4x10 is also pretty heavy, I can lift and carry this short distances by myself but not up/down stairs. Absolutely bomb proof though and they do sound fantastic. But I would guess that they weigh quite a bit more than what your TC BC212 weighs and if that's important to you then you'll find these don't meet your requirements. Cheers
19. Righto. It would certainly be a bit different.
