1. Classic. I wonder if you could get straplocks for your trousers.
2. Parkway, yeah. Can't go wrong with that. Or Delancey Street. Watch out for the one-way system. Are you guys playing? I'd be up for coming and watching.
3.
The main source of the SVT 'sound' isn't the drivers or the sealed cab, it's the height of the radiating plane. One can get the same effect from a pair of 2x10s stacked vertically, sans cost, hernia and transportation issues.
Thanks, that's all I needed to know.
4.
Their american record company thought that Cream was Eric Clapton's backing band!!
And to his dying day Ahmet Ertegun still truly believed that.
5.
Aria Sinsonido. These are for real, BTW. I played a fretless and it sounded lovely.
I was going to suggest this too but I couldn't remember who made them.
6. The Water Rats gig has been cancelled so Wednesday's gig is now the last for this line-up of the band. It'd be good to see any and all of you guys down there. I promise much bass goodness.
7. My guitarist's girlfriend was looking to buy him a bass for his birthday with a budget of £100. I suggested a 4-string Wesley. When it arrived we all thought it looked great and then I had a go on it. I was very pleasantly surprised by how it played. Beats many £300 basses. Extremely good value for money.
8. Some of our stuff is improvised so when I miss a change to another section and the guitarist and drummer complain to me afterwards I tell them it was their fault for not looking up and following my cues. They don't normally buy that. I think if you make the odd mistake that's fine - even a big one - but if you keep making the same mistake over and over it means you're not doing your homework properly, which is quite direspectful to your bandmates.
9. From what an amp tech said to me about the internal layout of my Eden power amp, they're designed and built in such a way that they're a doddle to repair if something does go wrong.
10. Ampeg fridge, eh? You mean like this?
11. EDIT: There we are!
12.
Marshal guitar amps are gold; you may wish to re-consider that statement
My guitarist uses a Marshall 2x12 cab from the mid-'80s - sounds great. There have been a lot of great guitar amps from Marshall over the years. It's a shame about all the cr@p they put out too, especially in recent years.
13. It's got a valve pre and well-spec'd EQ, compression and power amp... and it's gold - how can you go wrong?
14. Yeah, I should congratulate you on your first Warwick. You picked a good 'un.
15. Damn. That sounds close to my dream bass. Whenever I've seen bands live where the bass player has one, they've sounded perfect.
16. 80 bass guitars? And out of all of those you've chosen this one to sell? After already selling one and missing it so much you had to go back and buy another? Are you sure you don't want to sell 60 or so of the collection before letting go of this one?
17.
Good answer! Sadly the amp and cabs were a flash in the pan... Alex
Weren't they built by someone else? Did Bergantino make the cabs?
18. Hi Jamie. The set would probably be about 30-40 minutes starting at 7.40pm. If you come all the way down from Brum to see us I'd probably owe you more than one drink! It'd be great to see you there. There is an entrance fee which I think is £5 on the door - if you give me your and your friends' names I could put you on the guestlist (£4). The venue is alright - I haven't been there in a few years so it might have changed a bit. The place has a bit of history though: The Rolling Stones, The Police, Dire Straits, The Sex Pistols and U2 have all played there. I'll ask Luke and Rinser if they're free that evening. Would be good to have a bass players' chat while everyone else goes all rock n' roll.
19.
Though if I didn't already have some small cabs I'd seriously consider the O10 plus T39 to give me a modular solution.
Oh, go on then. I'll take your Acmes off you.
20. I got a 3/4 sized Westfield P bass that I could keep next to the bed at home. I think I could probably fit it in my desk drawer at work. Cost me about £60. There's a cool throw-around guitar from a company called Wesley Guitars for the same price that I know I could fit in my desk drawer (unfortunately, it's a guitar - but there are times when they have their uses).
21. Foolish Earthlings have two gigs coming up: Wednesday 8th August @ The Gardening Club (aka The Rock Garden), 6/7 The Piazza, Covent Garden 19:00. Sunday 19th August @ The Water Rats, 328 Grays Inn Road, Kings Cross 19:00. These are the last 2 gigs we will be doing with our current keyboard player/vocalist before he leaves for California for 4 years at the end of the month. The first gig is an 'electric' gig - up-tempo funk-rock mayhem. The second gig is an 'acoustic' gig - slowed down soulful gospel blues. Standard gig policy: any and all BCers who come to see us will get 1 drink on me for every person they bring with them (including themselves).
22. Alex gigs with his Avalon U5 into a power amp. It's not cheap though.
23. I bought some decent ones from Studio Spares.
24. I don't think you were hijacking it at all. I think it was a useful addition to a very useful thread. I've seen amps labelled: Gain / Volume Gain / Output Gain / Master Volume / Output Volume / Master I'm pretty sure I've seen Input and Level around the place too. I just work on the basis that the one on the left controls the preamp stage and the one on the right controls the power amp stage.
