1. Wasn't Rob Trujillo's $1m an advance on all the money he'd make in the band in the future?
2. I get what you're saying. I've got '77/'78 Fender Jazz and I thought it might be nice to pick up a cheap hard case from around the same time. I was a bit freaked out by the reference to the other case going on ebay for £300!
3. Does that mean the Acme cabs will be up for sale soon?
4. Exactly. Especially one that's battered and slightly broken. If it had been owned by someone cool then I could see someone (else) paying that sort of price. Otherwise, stick a decimal point in there somewhere and I'll be interested.
5. That's a tough question. Until you've actually seen your halls you won't know how secure the place is. Assuming that each room has its own lock, there shouldn't be much danger in taking your best bass. If you just want to keep your chops up during term time, a headphone amp / practice amp will do. If you want to gig out there, you might get away with not having an amp there at all.
6. Sounds great. Please share!
7. I've got an ETA power conditioner. Around the same price as that one. www.dv247.com
8. Bloody hell. That's good.

Distortions

I've got a DHA (can't remember the exact name). Dual Custom possibly? It's awesome. It's got two valve gain stages and stage 1 drives stage 2. It also has a nifty level control which means you can get any valve overdrive or distortion sound without necessarily having a jump in volume from your clean sound. I can't recommend it enough. Don't forget to ask for the discount!
10.
Another +1 for Diago ... and their customer service is excellent. I asked James if a 12V cable was available and he made one up for me.
Does that mean they can power 12V f/x units now?
11. A cheap workaround is an octave pedal + distortion pedal + wah. You could probably even approximate it without the octave pedal.
12. A good tech can fix anything. Even things which aren't really broken. I'm glad your Aguilar's working now.
13. I've got a '77 Jazz. Body = heavy! (but I like it), Pick-ups = awful, Neck - superb! Plan = swap out the pick-ups for some Bare Knuckles.
14.
Its a combination of Midi controllers (the rocktron) and millions of roadies tweaking knobs! MY friend got backstage and saw all them running around madly
Again, utterly pointless when I heard them - I could hear everything BUT the bass.
15. Bloody hell. Result!
16. I have to admit I bought my Aguilar DB680 secondhand from a private seller in the US. Even after shipping and customs, and conversion from US to UK spec, it came in at around 55% of the price of a new UK one. Budget is always going to be a factor.
17. With the quality and range of equipment for sale on these forums, secondhand is a very good option.
18.
Exactly. Full disclosure..... My wife entered the relationship knowing the situation and she knows better than to try and 'change' me....
"But you know I was a shallow letch - that's why we got together!" I wonder how well something like that would go down.
19. In the jam sessions I go to, backline is provided. But I'd say 100 watts would be ok, 200 watts would be great. 300 watts would be unnecessary.
20. The sub-heading of this thread is "What's the score?!". I think the answer is around 10-nil.
21. They don't use an agent. I think they do also operate an agency themselves though. Give them a ring - they might know of musicians who need a bassist. I don't really do covers gigs so I can't offer that much advice.
22. Jazz After Dark in Soho. It's easy to get booked and very good for your playing. It's a horrible gig but great training. If you can play a good gig there, you can play a good gig anywhere! Material can't be too 'rock' and doesn't have to be all that 'jazz'. But blues, soul, funk and latin covers are fine. EDIT: Always travel light on that gig anyway! The GK's perfect for it.
23.
What I've found is the EQ requirements change with volume (and the room you're in)
Agreed
24. But that's saying when a company gets bought by someone new, it shouldn't have to respect any of its existing contracts!
