1. If this complaint is being dealt with privately isn't it just better to close this thread now? All the points about behaviour in a 'for sale' thread have been made above by various members.
2. It seems that the promoter was the one who ballsed it up. Or that's what some people are suggesting.
3. That was really cool. As said above - viscous liquid!
4. If you can't do the "1 finger per fret" below the 5th fret, just use a 1-2-4 technique. That means you play with your ring finger and little finger together in the same fret. I'm not going to go and measure my fingers because that seems silly. Another thing to do is make sure your bass is at a good angle for you. I play with mine angled up slightly (like in the pic in my sig). (Also, you should stretch your elbows out a bit). You shouldn't have to worry about the amoung of reach you can get with your fingers. Hope this helps!
5.
It seems like a hell of a health risk for her to take though, doesn't it? Only thing I can think of to sort the situation out is for Prince-style confiscations of all flash capable cameras at the door.
That's the probably the safest and simplest way. I'm sure noone in the audience would take pictures if people realised it was because of her epilepsy and not because she doesn't want people to have photos of the gig.
6. I think we all spend a lot of time discussing gear. It's too much if it's detrimental to your playing. Simple as that. The point of it is to improve your playing/sound.
7. I'd agree with what Simon says ( ) because you'll be hearing the stereo spectrum differently BUT you've already said you've got Genelec monitors and you were asking for advice on a pair of headphones to assist with the monitoring process - which suggests you're aware of this already.
8.
Interesting, I was under the impression Sting left Last Exit voluntarily to go to London.
Yes, did I say 'chucked out'? I should have said 'left'. I've met the lead singer of Last Exit and the story was basically that Sting wanted to sing a bit and the rest of the band hated his voice and said no. I think they all rated him as a bass player though - just hated his singing voice (which was nowhere near as developed as it'd later become).
9. Someone ballsed up by not telling the audience the reason that flash photography is not allowed.
10. It can take a while for a singer to turn into a great frontman. For the first 6 months (could be an exaggeration) of The Doors, Jim Morrison gigged with his back to the crowd! Sting was chucked out of Last Exit because he asked if he could sing on a couple of tunes. Eric Clapton had to be coaxed into singing at all when he was in Cream. Donny Hathaway had to be forced into singing in public by Roberta Flack! If you think your singer's singing is ok then get him to work on his weaknesses and improve.
11. Do you like the singer's work or not? Fork what everyone else thinks.
12. Where are you based? It's raining and cold over here. Feels like November!
13.
and what to do if the band has built up quite a bit of equipment?
Pay him for his contributions. If you didn't keep great records on who paid for what just give him an equal share. If you can't get that kind of money together quickly, then negotiate with him and let him take one piece of equipment - preferably an item that's most specific to what he does.
14. An old friend of mine said this to me after he came to see us for the first time: "I only have 15 suggestions - but I wouldn't have any if you guys were crap". Don't know how that might help you but this discussion did bring that to mind.
15. Well, it depends on a lot. Never get someone else to do your dirty work. How did this crap musician end up in the band in the first place? EDIT: I always vote for leaving together with the good parts of the band and starting again.
16.
on another note how would you go about telling someone in the band you are in they are sh*te? (maybe i should start a post on this)
good idea!
17. It is a bit of a difficult question though because how many of us would actually sit there and listen to a cr@p band (from the audience, not the stage)?
18. Good luck with the gig and let us know how it goes. I'd like to see him play sometime soon.
19. The Funk

EH nano pedals

I've got the same nano phaser pedal. Sounds pretty damn good to my ears - on bass and guitar.
20. Good stuff man. There's nothing better than progressing from a bedroom player to a gigging musician.
21. Haha, great stuff! It's going to be a fun soundcheck (for you at least)!
22. Hah, well when you put it like that, I suppose I'm with you on this one. You can identify possible problems in your own (originals) band's performance by watching a bad originals band.
23. Oooh - going to incorporate that into my band's mythology!
