1. Well, you say you're hitting around 75% at 40bpm. So I'd say once you're getting as close to 100% as is reasonable. One thing to remember is that the two tempos (tempi?) people tend to struggle with is very fast and very slow. 40bpm is at the slow end of things. You might find your accuracy improving if you up the tempo to 60bpm straight away. EDIT: My old teacher used to make me play whatever it was correctly 5 times in a row. If I made a fluff 3/4 of the way through #5, I'd have to go back to the start at #1.
2. When I had a few lessons a few years ago my bass teacher got me to play things at 60bpm, then work up 20bpm at a time to 180bpm. If I'd balls something up repeatedly at 60bpm, he'd take the metronome right back down to 40bpm. It's good to make sure you get it right at a slower speed and then gradually raise the tempo. Always start with 40bpm if that's where you're comfortable. But don't be afraid to turn up the metronome when you've nailed that scale/song/lick/melody at 40bpm. See if you can get that scale/song/lick/melody 100% right at 40, then up to 60, then up to 80, then up to 100, then up to 120. Try it.
3. I don't know why people worry about 'der yooff'. Good job guys!
4.
Yeah, I slaved away working in Mcdonalds 4 shifts a week for 2 years while at college mon-fri. i'm working in administration for durham prison over the summer though. No mooching off parents here
Bloody hell. Much respect to you. I still mooch whenever I can!
5. Tell us when you'll be out gigging this stuff. We'll all want to come see it!
6. Won't the room have an effect on the sound that you won't be able to hear through headphones?
7. Donny Hathaway - The Ghetto Bobby Womack - Across 110th Street (might sound a bit ridiculous completely out of context though)
8. Just out of interest, which wah is it?
9. How do you guys afford all this? For the first 9 years, I just had one $300 4-string MIM Fender Jazz Standard.
10. First off, Alien Nation Then, Open Your Eyes And See And finally, Snake (Foolish Earthlings)
11. If you're going to do a Slave song it should be Slide.
12. They also did Bus Stop. That's pretty funky.
13. You could try some Brothers Johnson. A little cheesy but great bass parts.
14. Isn't poverty the most common genuine reason for sale? Have you got any pics?
15. Have any of you heard of / registered for this new Channel 4 show mobileACT unsigned (yes, it's a daft name)? The official site is at www.mobileact.co.uk I've registered my band and I was wondering about the forum members' views on this: could this be a horrendous mistake or an interesting opportunity? The other thing I was wondering was whether you'd all go have a look at our profile on the site and see whether you like the tunes / videos - and if you do, vote for us. Please do the same for any other forum member's bands that have entered. Thanks
16. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin), If You Want Me To Stay - Sly & The Family Stone. Those two are awesome. EDIT: George Benson does a seriously funky cover of Nature Boy. You could try that, seeing as you already have one G B tune in there.
17. You could, nay should, try some Ohio Players. Love Rollercoaster, Skin Tight and Fire. You could also try Chuck Brown - Bustin' Loose. Then there's the entire Parliament-Funkadelic catalogue: Tear The Roof Off, Red Hot Mama, Supergroovalisticposifunkstication, Flashlight etc. There's so much more but it depends on what kind of sound you're after. Oh yeah, can't forget Curtis Mayfield. EDIT: D'oh, how can I forget Sly?
18. That sounds like a good approach.
19. I use the related Aguilar DB680 preamp. I haven't had any problems with it. I plug it into a power amp that gives me 1000 watts at 4 ohms. After reading all of this I'm glad that's the way I went. Sorry to hear about your problems with the DB750. I'm very surprised that it's a problem which a good amp tech can't fix.
20. Never had any kind of reaction after a gig. Unless you count the promoter's mum giving me a peck on the cheek for no apparent reason. EDIT: I'm pretty much the only musician I've heard of who turns up to gigs with two women and leaves with none.
21. I wish I'd been there
22. Very good thread. Personally, I prefer distortion --> wah but it would all depend on the distortion, the wah, the player, the band, the song etc.
23. That's a lot of equipment. Shame I couldn't really hear the bass when I saw them!
24. I've had a GK MB150S for 7 years now and a GK 400RB IV for just over a year. Both sound great and have proved extremely reliable. Never had a problem with either amp.
25. If you've got some spare money and you're not really sure what you want to buy then I'd say hold onto it - you know it'll only be a matter of days before somewhere on these forums someone posts something that'll turn you green with envy.
