1. The Bass Centre knocked a fair amount off the asking price when I bought a couple of EBS pedals from them. Just ask them!
2. Other: Valve Pres: Aguilar DB680 (A rig), Warwick Quadruplet (B rig) SS Power Amp: Eden WT1000 (A rig), QSC RMX850 (B rig) Works pretty well. I'd love a valve power amp but can't find one anywhere at a price I can afford.
3. It's going for £750 here but $720 (£350) in the US!
4.
How bout the classic DOD FX25 Envelope filter?
A friend of mine lent me one of these. Was very funky. I think the EBS is smaller though.
5. Thanks for all the great replies!
6. Well, a cassette or mini-disk 4-track will be about as simple as it gets. It's as simple as working a normal tape deck in your stereo - just steer clear of all the editing functions as it doesn't seem to be something you enjoy.
7. EBS BassIQ can sound pretty tasty. I think it's just an envelope filter.
8. Expect... The Unexpected <- pointless, unhelpful answer.
9. Seems like almost everyone on here has gigged with Enter Shikari. (I always accidentally type Enter Shakira!!!)
10. I play guitar, drums and keys - but I'd never call myself a guitar player, drummer or keyboard player. It's always fun to do this in rehearsal though: "Is it easier if I just show you?"
11. Just wondering if any of you guys have any experience of this ultra portable head from Eden. Looks like it could fit in a standard gig bag's front pouch.
12. Yeah! Good sh!t! He's got a few techniques down that I haven't started trying to get into yet. And his rhythm's pretty good overall (excluding the parts he's struggling with). Well done, him. I only started playing when I was a year older than he is now.
13. Also bear in mind the fact that the valve DHA pedals can be used as a preamp.
14. I've got two valve preamps and I would never switch. You can pick up the Warwick Quadruplet pretty cheap second hand (I believe Dood sold his for around £150).
15. My former guitarist who I grew up playing with in different bands is now the guitarist for Trilok Gurtu, Corinne Bailey Rae and Roisin Murphy. He left my band to play with Nitin Sawhney. IIRC he asked my opinion on whether he should do it and I threw him out of the band to make the decision easier.
16. Educate me: why is an HZ not a real EMG? 'Cos they're passive? Or 'cos they're not actually made in the EMG factory but somewhere else?
17. I think he teaches at ACM in Guildford. I remember watching the Kajagoogoo episode of Bands Reunited thinking "bloody hell, that's a good bass player!".
18. Good luck. You won't need luck. Just have fun and roll with it.
19. Well, how do your two 'Rays compare?
20. It's an EMG with a Bartolini preamp EDIT: Which you already know 'cos you said it's an HZ
21. I've decided to sell my Roland TD6-K electronic drum kit. I bought it new in 2002 for £1000 and I'm looking for £400 for it (down from £600). It's never left my flat and is in full working order. The pads have stick marks from where they've been played. The only way to avoid this is to not play the kit at all! I will chuck in a free kick drum pedal. The new model (once removed), the TD6-KW comes in at £900 new. The lesser model (TD3-KW) comes in at £650. BIN prices on ebay range between £700 and £800. The onboard drum sounds are fine. There are a lot of editing functions for the drum sounds which does mean you can find and tweak a complete kit to your liking. (I have seen bands gig with these). The drum brain is fully MIDI compatible and each pad is assignable to a different MIDI note. This means that you can hook it up to a computer recording/sequencing package and play some powerful and realistic soft synth drum kits/patches through an actual kit (rather than writing them in with a mouse or playing them in on a MIDI keyboard). The option to quantize your drum grooves is always there if you need it. This is not something that everyone recording at home or in a project studio will "need". It's also a fairly expensive experiment (although you could theoretically make a profit selling it on on ebay). If you want to dabble in drums, it would be much cheaper to buy an acoustic kit and cymbals (check out the entry level Tama). The advantage of this kit is: 1. It is much, much quieter than a "real" kit. It should not disturb your neighbours at all (the only sound audible is stick on pad). 2. It can be a very useful recording tool. It doesn't look as cool as the new one (which has a cool black frame). This comes with the less cool blue frame (although you could always upgrade to the new black frame later if it really, really bothered you). It looks corny anyway though - it's an electronic kit after all. This is what it looks like. Feel free to ask any questions or offer any opinions either in this thread or by PM. I'm based in London and would prefer collection. Cash or paypal.
22. That's one hell of a rig for £1400!
23. Well, on her website it says she switched over 4 years ago, so I'm wrong. Still don't like her playing or think it's remarkable though.
24.
She's been playing bass for 4 years.
She switched over from guitar at Berklee - and I'm pretty sure that was more than 4 years ago.
25. Ok, got an email back. Price: 2100 Euros, 50% payable before commencement of the work, 50% payable upon completion. (Includes delivery to the UK). Construction time: 2 months.
