1.
a cheap alembic
Only 15 grand then?
2.
At what point should I be concerned that there soon won't be any space in the house to sleep?
When you roll over for a cuddle and accidentally play 'Satisfaction' instead.
3. I'm picking one up just to serve as a back-up bass. I don't want to have to restring my bass (or figure out what the problem is) on stage during an important and short set. Not having one would mean the band losing songs and/or disrupting the flow of the set.
4. And there's me sitting at my computer with nothing but the refresh button and my wits.
5. The only reason to buy at Turnkey is when they have a ridiculously good bargain (as every shop does from time to time). The trouble is they'll probably sell the 1 item to 8 different customers and then spend the next few days trying to figure out why they can't find it in the warehouse. I speak from experience.
6. Digital Village - go there instead.
7.
I was outbid with 2 seconds left on that bass
That's that new thing they have on ebay which guarantees you win. Can't remember what it's called but it's awful. With two seconds to go, there's no time to put in a new bid.
8. That seems so wrong. Still wouldn't put me off buying if I had the money. Rosewood or Maple neck?
9. And how much for the extension cab (and both gig bags)?
10. Very interesting pickup combination there. Both pickups are so close to the bridge. Should sound meaty.
11. The GK head is now heading to Stockholm (via Sutton). Sssssexy.
12. But that's my bass! Hehe, it's awesome - through the right amp.
13. Alex uses the DI, I think it's the U5, as the preamp in his rig. That would be a stupendous preamp for a gig rig.
14. I should add that I once had excellent service at Turnkey. It was at Christmas time last year - I don't think I've ever seen that guy work there before or since. Anyway, he did a great discount on a couple of cables for me.
15. It's worth doing. You won't get £200 but the guy who's one level up from the first guy you'll speak to on the phone (ie. his manager) is authorised to issue you a voucher up to £50 in value. You probably wouldn't get all that but it's worth trying.
16. Nah, you fall into the third category: bassists with good taste.
17. I've had £200 back overall in vouchers from Turnkey over the last few years through general complaints.
18.
I hope that threads like this one have the desired effect and that retailers learn that poor customer service is not acceptable. In our shrinking world consumers have the freedom to take their business overseas and with such superb service and a very attractive exchange rate Bass Central in the USA is bound to benefit if UK suppliers fail to reach expectations.
Amen

*edit*

I'd always take it to my tech. Very rarely costs me more than £30.
20. Nothing wrong with that. It seems like Warwicks are popular mainly with funksters and metalheads - and hardly anyone else. I've never seen anyone else with the model I play though. Not sure why.
21.
Neon! That's what you need! A great big f*ck-off flashing sign. In pink.
I can just picture the uproar when a giant pink neon sign goes up, flashing "F*CK OFF! Invitation Only." I bought my Warwick Infinity SN5 there. Loved the place. It didn't feel like a shop - felt like a bass club.
22.
I'm looking to get one of these or a Yamaha DT-1 Express kit at some point, but not until I move into somewhere with MORE SPACE!
I forgot to mention the fact that the fold up. In theory, you could fold the frame in on itself with all the drums/cables/brain still attached and rest it against a wall.
23.
My band's going through a big hoo hah at the moment over the way one of the backing vocalists who's been with us 4 weeks spoke to me at rehearsal. In a nutshell, she was extremely condescending to me and said that I couldn't be expected to learn the part in question as quickly as the keyboard player because I'm "just a bassist", she then told everyone they had to be patient with the non-musicians in the band. The week before the other backing vocalist commented on how novel it was that I read music, to which the first one said that bass music is much easier to read than "proper" music. I kept my mouth shut at the time but it has since become an issue and it looks like she'll be out the door very soon. If she'd have been a bloke I'd have punched his lights out - it's a shame I'm not an equal rights bassist really!
Punch her anyway. Emotionally.
24. Excellent idea! Straps, cases and strings. I'd happily sport a BC-branded double gigbag. *hint*

Orange amps

I've only played through one once for a few minutes when I was demo-ing something else. I'm sure the head is great but I'd have liked to have tried it through different cabs - the sound was quite muffled and lo-fi.
