1. Such as the merits of different shops.
  2. Hi. I was just wondering if anything could be done about a particular ad that is political in nature and not in any way bass related. It's to do with ending an academic boycott of Israel. I was very surprised to see such an ad at the top of a bass forum, especially one which has a basic position of keeping politics and religion off the forums.
  3.
It might have helped had they made it clear it was a piss take on the whole "relic" scene people might not have got so upset - but then maybe they thought people would have the wit to work that out for themselves.
No need to accuse the people in this thread of being dim wits.
  4. I stand by my reaction and my posts in this thread. I know the video wasn't an advert inviting people to shop there. But you can surely understand how people would see it and think "that's no way to treat a bass - f**k, I'm not shopping there".
  5.
I didn't really care what these guys were doing with their bass.
Ah, well you're one of the few people who found it obvious that this was their bass. To me it looked like it wasn't.
FWIW, I think it's a little unfair to be put a business's reputation on the line like this when we don't know the exact circumstances.
We've had an explanation now. I wanted to know which shop it was so that I as a consumer could opt not to shop there. Someone else found out which shop it was and told me in the thread. I think some of the youtube comments were over-the-top. I also think it was a daft business move to put that video - without any explanation - on youtube.
  6.
I can't understand the reaction either Soundgoduk, to be honest. I can think of far worse things to get up in arms about!
After seeing that video did you think "damn, for my next purchase I really must order something from them"?
  7. If you honestly believe putting that video on youtube would get you more business then you and I have completely opposite ideas of how to sell yourself. I said thanks for your explanation because it shows there was no real harm done at all. EDIT: But until we had that information, all we had was a video of what appeared to be lunatics hacking away at a new bass and laughing at all the damage caused.
  8.
Hi all Thanks for the verbal... lets set a few things straight... -The bass had just been bought by one of the staff doing the 'relicing' -We knew it was a mexican and not an american.... and all about the routing differences -It was not a request from a customer and we would never do this to a customers bass for money -The member of staff in question prefered the finished article -It was a lot of fun to do and we were taking the p@ss "trying to make it look like Jaco's" If any of you fancy a real relic.. we've got a lovely custom shop one in... Cheers ..... you may now resume the abuse
Thanks for the explanation. You can surely understand the reaction though?
  9.
it's not your bass, not your request, not what you want, none of your business.
It's good to know what the staff at a bass shop are like. And now I'm glad that the people posting in this thread have shown me that this is a shop to avoid. In that way it is my business. Going to a different shop.

  11. I'm sure he had no idea what he was in for or what he was doing. You'd expect someone in a shop to say "we don't do that and we're not the people to ask". A helpful shop would then say "ask such and such".
  12. Of course it is. Vandalism's great fun. Why do you think drunk teenagers enjoy it so much?
  13. We're giving them a hard time because they are suggesting to the customer that they know what they are doing when they clearly have no idea. They're just using it as an excuse to vandalise a bass guitar.
  14.
fair enough. would they sound similar then or not?
I think they sound really different. The only thing they share is the general body shape. Warwicks sound like Warwicks (the sound of wood and all that) and Spectors sound like good active basses. That's the only way I can really describe it - might not be that useful I'm afriad.
  15.
That's a bit harsh isn't it?
I think it's important to let people know that this is something they did and then boasted about on the internet. And I think this thread is probably enough. Was I imagining things or was the customer actually in the shop there with them?
  16.
that spector looks a lot like a warwick streamer to me. maybe you'd get a similar sound from one of them? please correct me if im wrong, ive never played a streamer or a spector, so i don't really know
Spectors and Warwicks look alike 'cos they were both designed by Mr Steinberger, I do believe.
  17. Which shop is this? I need to know so that I never go there or order anything from them. Any ideas on how to narrow it down? 1. It's somewhere in the south.

It's not really such a big guess: 1. You went in to get your amp repaired 2. When you got it back there was a burnt out fuse in it But obviously you don't have to tell us who it is if you don't want to.
  19. Ah, that's your problem right there. You have a guest room but no current guests, which is basically a room that's not being used properly. Convert it into a bass room (and paint everything white) and that purple bass will fit in nicely.
  20. A cure for GAS is to buy some good books. It'll do way more to improve your sound and at a fraction of the cost. I don't think gear acquisition counts as a syndrome if there's an actual purpose to your purchase: eg. new cabs required as the old ones are at the bottom of Loch Ness.

  22.
Anyone want a clue to who I am talking about?
I do but I'm worried that I should show solidarity with my fellow bass players and not participate in this. I do want to know who it is (and how many basses!). I reckon it could be one of the 40+ bass owners. I have a funny feeling it's our Spector devotee.
  23. I suppose there are different categories of GAS going from benign and almost justifiable at one extreme and completely bonkers at the other extreme. I got a '77 Fender Jazz off ebay for just over £600 last year. It turned out the seller was selling it no behalf of a family friend who'd gone nuts with GAS and bankrupted the family with his acquisitions. I started to feel bad about it but the seller just said "look, everyone's got to get a bargain once in a while".
  24. Think of how many children there are in the world with no access to clean water, education or adequate healthcare, then calculate how many lives you could save in one go with the money you would spend on a new bass. It's all about balance.

Yeah, sounds like it. We should probably know who they are so that we don't take our amps there.
