It'll be a rebate from Fender themselves rather than cash off at the till I'd expect. I had to deal with the last deal they did (which was free strings for a year with every american standard) and it was a massive ballache getting it done.

If you want the sound of a cab when recording, you'd use two microphones. A Beta 52, D112 or my personal favourite a e602. This is placed right next to one of the speakers (usually top left). Once you have that microphone in place to capture your fundamental tones, you then add the second one. The type of microphone which would be best for this would be a large diaphragm condenser. Something like an AKG C414. Placed between a foot and 2 foot in front of the cab. Mix the two and you'll have the perfect replication (or as close as can be) to the sound of your amp and cab.

Someone earlier mentioned Suhr basses. Their Jazz Basses are the best Jazz basses there are. And that's coming from someone that's played Laklands, Sadowskys, Fenders etc!

In response to the mention of Custom Shop Thunderbirds, I contacted Gibson a few months ago looking to get a slightly different finish, nothing difficult or fancy. The official response from them was that the Gibson Custom Shop won't do basses. At all. Ever.

Indeed! I'll go without the initials then In case anyone was wondering, it's going to be a Sandberg PM4 in Black (or possibly White) with Black/White/Black guard, Ebony board, and black hardware. Wazoo, if you hadn't have shown me that bass I could potentially have a lot more money!

There would be no fretboard markers, only the initials at the 12th. I am starting to go off the idea though!

I'm toying with the idea of getting a custom bass done. One of the things I'd like to do would be having my initials (ARK) on the fingerboard. I can't think what colour would be right though, it'd be an ebony or rosewood fingerboard. Body probably black with black/white/black guard. Black hardware as well, naturally Any suggestions? Can't decide if white or silver would look best!

The playability on them is best of all the Fenders I've tried. And needless to say, I've had the chance to try a few!
