2. Thanks guys...will check them out...
3. I don't use effects, but I've been looking at volume pedals just recently, and it's a can of worms...I need something that has a linear response across the range, and has a pedal with quite a bit of resistance (so when you take your foot off, it doesn't move, and flip onto max volume)...and has good quality components that don't compromise the sound, and won't fail a few months down the line ...I would be very grateful for any advice anyone has to offer...as the prices range from £45 to several hundred, and I haven't a clue... Thanks, bassgeek...
4. Yep!...no dramas...It was a difficult decision to sell my baby skez, but you made it painless (CMD 102)...it was when you exclaimed ''It's so clear...and the EQ is flat!!!'' that helped....Welcome to the world of Markbass Skez...keep me posted... chrismuzz's uncle...
5. If you've read the reviews, you'll know just what this versatile combo is capable of. It's in fairly good condition, has never been thrashed ( the limiter will always protect the speakers tho) and the asking price is £475. I will upload pics when I can find the wretched charger for my camera... sorry..no trades I'm afraid.
6. My GAS for 5s started in 1986 when I saw Laurence Cottle Playing a Wal custom 5. Athough I'd been experimenting for years, tuning my 4 down a 4th to B, (as I was told my many a luthier that making a 5 was impossible, due to unavailabily of machines, pups, bridges, and most importantly, strings.... not to mention a complete redesign of the shape, due to balance issues)....this was the first time I'd heard another player use those notes....It was a proper B string this time..not a tuned down E.. The world fell out of my bottom when he played those low notes, and I yelled every time he did so...(not good in a jazz club)...I was gibbering wreck after that...I ordered one from Wal the very next day. To this day that low B continues to make me go all gooey inside when I hear it played...Anthony Jackson being the main culprit (he did invent it after all).. Stangely, the B never sounds that low when I play it...bummer...that's my excuse for fitting a double drop hipshot TIP..If you have never played a 5 or are not used to one, take your reference from the G..eg think of C on the A string as 3 strings down, rather than 3 strings up, don't over use the B........Oh..and get some nappys...
7. Hi I've never had to send a bass by carrier before, and don't know where to begin...or who to use..or how much it will cost. Also, I have just set up a paypal account, and have a nasty feeling that the seller is liable for a charge... Can anyone help?...It's within the UK by the way... Thanks.. Bassgeek..
8.
Hi bassgeek iv bought a musician bass same as yours a few weeks ago and must say i am well impressed i have fenders warwicks yamaha and 2 ibanez guitars i used my musician at practice last week and the lads in the band said it sounded better than all my other guitars so i think who ever buys yours is getting a real good bargain. Good luck with the sale mate catch you later.
Thanks Hadge.. The last time I used it was at a 3 day salsa clinic...I was a bit late for the first session, due to being stuck in traffic, and barely had time to plug it into the unknown amp in the room, or tune it, let alone fiddle with the EQ...luckily, it sounded great from the first bar.. the tutors were the first to comment on it's sound, and continued to do so for the next 3 days... A couple of years later, I bought my dream bass, a flame maple 5 string Warwick Streamer Stage 1...absolutely gorgeous....but I couldn't get a sound that fitted anything I was doing...(I'm sure many great players out there have no problems with theirs)....I sold it after a few months...I've had the Ibanez for 26 years... Catch ya soon...
9.
I managed to aqquire one of these last year - I love Musician basses and the limited edition one is an astonishing instrument. Don't need a spare kidney (or alternately an 81 Polar White Musician) in trades do you bassgeek ? Gray
Hi Gray... Yeah...Great instruments...esp the Ltd edition ones...sadly, I only play a 5 now, and due to limited space, I've reluctantly decided to sell...Errm...might need a spare liver soon tho...
10. (DING ALERT!!!!!)If you like to buy basses in pristine condition, then don't waste your time going any further..Step away... Ahem... This is a very unusual example of 1980 Musician series...I have yet to see another one like it... It has an ebony board, with Ltd edition inlay, ash body with unidentifiable facing wood..the usual 3 band EQ, and passive switch.. I have owned this for 26 years, and sadly, now I only play a 5, very rarely played nowadays... Since my decades long search for the right 5 string, It has always been my yardstick...I've spent sometimes 3 grand on a 5,only to discover that the ibanez wipes the floor with it !!!....It is still the best sounding bass I've ever owned!...From dub, to Glassy highs, to Marcus M, to Jaco...even managed to get a sousaphone sound at a trad jazz gig!!.... Now the hard bit....There are many faults....dings galore...it was stolen, and recovered, but sadly not the fitted case..It suffered some damage, whereby the velve tune machines were replaced with Fender type Shallers...the truss rod cover was missing when I bought it,, and on some gigs, but not all, prone to rf hum...(turning 5 degrees to the left or right cures it)...There is a slight shielding problem...all of these faults can be sorted by a competent repairman.... Despite it's faults, this is still a great bass...a true classic, designed to be played..... a workhorse, not part of a collection....I'm not desperate to sell, but someone out there will love this instrument... Considering faults etc, the asking price is £450...If there is any interest, I will upload more pics....
11. This great cab is now redundant, due to the type of gigs that come my way now...I haven't used it for nearly a year...the 102 combo is more than adequate for all situations. I believe it has now been discontinued. It has a little wear and tear, but nothing major, and is in perfect working order...I am based in Northampton, Northants if anyone would like to hear it...
12.
Why was the stagg a better bass then? I much prefer the looks on the palatino, but is that all its got going for it, or can it made in to a gooood EUB? Pete
I have played both, and the Stagg sounded great thro my amp without too much tweaking...there was a slight issue with the strings tho, the D had few kinks in it, but at 25 quid a set...I eventually bought a new set of thomastiks, and that made a world of difference. The pickup on the Stagg, while not in the Steinberger league is remarkable..to buy a pickup and preamp for a double bass would cost you about 400 quid, the Stagg is much less than that. The pallatino sounded fine, till I plugged it in....some strings weren't being picked up, and those that were didn't sound good, no matter how I tweaked the amp...also the hip brace is badly designed, and had a tendency so slip past you, and send the bass into a spin...you are constantly re-positioning..it is also very heavy...These are entry level basses made to a budget as I'm sure you're aware, and I may own a good Stagg, and may have played (to compare) a duff Pallatino...the youtube vids sold the Stagg to me, and there are a lot of people demonstrating both instruments on there. This is just my opinion amongst many that you have seen, and others may disagree with me but...hope it helps...
13. You can't go wrong with stagg edb...it's very cheap...the sound I got from the instrument last night with a quartet playing Frank Sinatra tunes was better than my 1890 Mittenwolk with an underwood pickup thro a polytone....(sold it for 5 grand)WHAAAH!....any way...we all make mistakes...but I've lived with, and gigged this instrument for a while now, and I have no hankerings for a steinberger or any other top of the range bass....this instrument is awesome...for just over 300 quid...and it has mp3 socket and headphone.....played a pallatino a while ago...not good...go with stagg....
