1. Ok, all the encryption will do is mean that when your transmitter is off, the receiver doesn't receive a signal from another unit. Only one signal can be transmitted down a channel at once. So if there's two transmitters on a channel (let's call the one you do want A, and the one you don't want B ), there's two 4 possibilities: Transmitter A is on and B is off. In this case the receiver will receive A Transmitter A is off and B is on. In this case the receiver won't receive anything because B doesn't have the correct key. Transmitter A is on and the signal is strong, B is on but weak. The receiver will receive the encryption key from A and thus start receiving, but the transmission will be impaired by B which is also transmitting on the same channel. As such, audio will come through, but will be broken and interfered with by B. Transmitter A is on and the signal is weak, and B is on and strong. The receiver will receive the signal from A, but as B is stronger it will dominate. As such the receiver won't 'hear' the correct encryption and as such will not give any audio, despite A transmitting with the correct key in the background.
2.
The presence of an encryption key within the datastream transmission actually helps with RF hence reducing the chance of interference. There is a slight trade off in terms of latency, for example pro systems it adds an almost negligible 0.2ms but with other systems, maybe the AKG, it may be bigger.
If anything, encryption would make problems from interference worse. I don't understand how it could improve them. It'll stop eavesdropping, but not interference.
3. If I still lived in London I would!
4. Encryption has no effect on interference, so ignore that.
5. The first question is, how much are you willing to spend? If you like the sound of the Sansamp I would imagine an Ampeg head of some form would be best to give you a similiar sound. If you can afford it, an SVT-II or SVT-CL will always be best, but if you're looking for something cheaper then the SVT-350 or SVT-450 can be bought for a good price second hand. As for the cab, if you can afford it then a Barefaced 69'er would be right up your street I imagine. It's a clone of the original Ampeg SVT810 'fridge' cabinet. Although the Barefaced is louder, better, and a lot lighter! Price wise, it's fairly costly. A cheaper option would be picking up one of the smaller Barefaced cabinets, or alternatively, just a 4x10 or 6x10 from a decent brand. This looks like a fairly good deal: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/219318-price-drop-ampeg-svt-pro-3-head-usa-92-ampeg-b-410hlf-cab-for-sale-l550/
6. I use the MXR M80. Pretty much the same thing, I just went for this because it was a bit cheaper than the sansamp. http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m80-bass-di I'm surprised to see so many top bassists using it rather than the sansamp. Check the list on the product page!
7. e609 I'd say.
8. I give up.
9. If you use an amp simulating DI that wouldn't be the case. It effectively will create a DI signal that sounds like an amp when run through the PA (or something like it). Look at the Sansamp Bass Driver, the MXR M80, or the Behringer BDI21. You plug into that, and it splits out an untouched feed to the amp as normal, but then does funky amp modelling stuff to the DI output. The Sansamp and MXR M80 are both top notch, and the Behringer is a rather good budget version.
10. Hmm. Not something I've come across before
11.
DONT do this! the high powered signal from the amps speaker outs will wreak havoc on such a piece of kit
No. The Behringer GI100 is safe to connect to loads of up to 3000W. Check the product page please: http://www.behringer...ucts/GI100.aspx
12. I would get the Behringer GI100 and connect it between your head and cab, enable the speaker emulation and then just let him plug into it. No need for mixing signals, or mics. That alone should sound fine!
13. Bump for some more?
14. Half fretted. Half fretless.
15. GuitarGuitar had a second-hand 80's 4001 in a couple of years back. I absolutely loved it but didn't have the funds and I missed out.
16. I had an Epiphone Pro IV. Probably my favourite bass to grab and play on. Despite what people might say about Tbirds! I ended up selling it though because I couldn't deal with the fact it said Epiphone. And yes, I know that's a truly terrible attitude to have but I felt like a fraud not using a proper Gibson one.
17. I'm going to take an informed guess and say that tech metal probably won't be to the liking of most BC members! But for those of you who are into the heavier stuff, I highly recommend you check out this band. They are absolutely amazing live. Alternatively, if you prefer something more chilled, Tesseract are always a cracker. Nothing's better than a 28 minute song! Although if you don't fancy all half an hour, skip to 19:20 for a good snippet.
18. I had a SP210 which I bought from a user on here 3 years ago for £320. Saw the going rate on here was only £200 or something so I tried eBay first and to my surprise it went for £310! They are a good idea, but will not give you the sound of a big cab. They'll get you closer than a conventional small cab though.
19. And one more just to finish off! 1. Native Tongue (now closed), Epsom, 40 2. Cannot be hired 3. £40 paid for 30/40 minute set, as well as a free drinks. No bar share. 4. Beaten-up Yamaha Stage Custom drum kit, 1x Fender 1x Hughes and Kettner mid-range solid-state combos, very shagged Peavey TNT Bass Combo. 5. FoH = 2x old and barely working tops, 1x sub, small mixer, cheap mics, no outboard. Mons = What Mons?. Engineer did a good job with what he had. 6. £1 Fri/Sat.
20. So I'll start it off with one of the venues I played at recently: 1. 13th Note, Glasgow, 60ish? 2. £80ish for 8-11pm (week nights), but if the bar takes more than £160 you get the hire for free. 3. Haven't played one of their own nights so cannot comment. 4. They don't offer any backline, at all 5. FoH PA was 2 tops and 2 subs, with a small mixer at the back. Did the job alright. Mons were just two mismatched PA speakers on their side that weren't very clear or loud. Sound engineer was mediocre at best and despite being the regular guy there, didn't do that well. 6. We did ours for £3, although some nights are up to £8. Depends on the band/promoter
21. http://paisleyfreight.com You can either use the booking calculator based off weight and dimensions, or they do a flat rate for guitars: Overnight delivery (1 working day), door to door, for £13.50. I've sent drum kits, bass guitars, bass amps, and many other things through them without trouble. They do not insure for damage though, only for loss in transit. If you book a UK->UK delivery with them, it'll be done by TNT.
22. I'm doing a bit of research and I'd be interested to know what the deal is with music venues round your parts. I'm looking into the possibility of opening one, so if there's a venue near you that you've used or played at, I'd be delighted if you could give me a bit of feedback on the points below. 1. Venue, Town, Capacity? 2. How much do you have to pay to hire the venue (i.e to put on your own gig) 3. If they put you on one of their own gig nights, do you get paid, get a bar share, get a ticket share, or get nothing? 4. What's the backline offered? 5. What's the PA and Engineer like? 6. What's the usual ticket price for events at the venue? I'm talking about the smaller venues 50-150 capacity size.
23. I live in Southside. Used to use GMS for rehearsals and whilst I still would recommend them, we moved to Shadow Sound Central when it opened a couple of months ago. It's cheaper (only £15 for 3 hours during off-peak hours). Would recommend giving them a go one time, the sound and equipment in there has always been good for us.
24. I can't hear anything wrong with the quality. The only thing I picked up on was that the vocals weren't ambient enough and didn't sit correctly in my opinion.
