1. I use a Markbass Blackline Little Mark 250 made in Indonesia and it is superb. Its equally as good as the Italian-made version I had a few years ago and at £250 is great value I think. I make my own 112 cabs and the difference between the first one I made of B&Q exterior ply (lighter than birch) and the second one I made of lightweight poplar ply is 2.5 kgs. Tonally the poplar one is slightly more "open/airy". They're identical in every other respect. Good for Marco for coming on this forum.
  2.
I have not used this guy, but he operates out of the poole and Southampton areas.... http://www.joinmyban...rs-t474724.html

Maybe call Oasis Music in Ringwood - they must have a few repair techs and will know the good ones...
Thanks Guys!
  3. Does anyone know a good amp tech near to Shaftesbury in Dorset?
  4. Is anyone certain it was the wadding that "blew" or indeed exactly what the material was/is? This whole thread strikes me as being unfair on the manufacturer until the facts are known - its all hearsay up to this point.
  5.
The troublesome handles, the dodgy feet, the spewing of foam, the Radio Shack looks. You know what guys, none of this matters. Did anybody mention how incredibly light they are? (and what with the shedding of foam, they get lighter the older they get! RESULT!)
Harsh. Amusing but ..... harsh.
  6. +1 for the Laney RB8. Its a solid, reliable combo that sounds good.
  7. I used to have one of these and my impression was that it is 2 x 50 watts into one speaker and splits it 50w/50w into two speakers . . . if you see what I mean. I built an 8ohm extension cab for mine and when using both speakers it was "fuller" but not much louder. Nice amp but heavy for what it is and I eventually went down the route of "separates". There's quite a few threads about it on TalkBass btw.
  8.
My next Bass build will be an EUB, and will be a "less is more" headless take on the Bassix Stick Bass. As there will be very little body for resonation of sound, what would be the best form of pickups? I'm assuming a microphonic type like a Shertler would be wasted and I should go down the route of piezos? I have a spare Stagg preamp module from their EUB so am half way there... Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!
I'll be watching this thread with interest as I'm thinking about doing the same . . .
  9.
Hi all, My names Andy and I'm new to this site, so hello to all my bass friends out there I have just joined a really popular covers band in the Midlands. Mostly weddings and the odd pub gig. I want to invest in a new amp. Around the 300-400 pound value with atleast 300 watts output. Got an Ashdown at the moment but starting to look a bit battered. Amps that have caught my eye are the Marshall mb4210 but it's getting mixed reviews. Ideally I would like a head/speaker combo but that's looking a bit pricey... Any advice would be great....Thanks all!!!
I use a Laney RB8 1 x 15" combo for pub-sized gigs and add an ext. speaker for outdoor events. About 180 watts as it stands @ 8 ohm and 300 watts @ 4 ohm with ext speaker - never needed the gain or volume past halfway . . . ever . . . Its never let me down - I've had it 3 years and it comes with a 5 year warranty. Its a great sounding and very versatile combo that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who enjoys plug and play reliability from a UK based company. A head and speaker setup should be well within your budget if you shop around.
  10.
Thanks Bloodaxe, will try and be careful for once. Cheap neck so if it goes badly I won't be too bothered, just sand back to wood and try something else. But I will take your advice with the turps. Lucky we had that mild winter, no way it could have got cold out there...
Yacht varnish will not dry hard enough IMO - it remains flexible which is its purpose - you'll have a frustrating time sanding it off too - Rustin's Plastic Coating on the other hand dries (cures in fact) like glass and is virtually indestructible.

    Eude's Feedback

Bought Eude's Markbass Little Mark 250 and received today. Great bloke, easy to deal with, honest, fast delivery, well packaged and good communications - great transaction. Many thanks.
Nice Job! How would you describe the sound?
Difficult to describe as I've only used it as an extension cab for my Roland Bass Cube 100 but would say its richer, louder and just sounds better than the single stock speaker. Its certainly a big improvement on what is already a good sounding combo (IMV) and have high hopes for it when I find a good used Little Mark 250.
That finish is fantastic! It looks very professional.
I'm embarassed at how easy the finish was! TuffCab paint from Blue Aran - 3 coats applied with a standard paint roller. It takes about a week to cure fully although you can re-coat after about 1/2 hour and handle within one hour . . . time will tell how durable it is.

Here's one that I've just finished. I used Eminence's design (from their website) for a small vented cab for bass guitar using the DeltaLite II. Sounds good and weighs 12.5 kgs. Thanks to MykeT for his help

  16.
Got a 1 x 15 Trace combo (GP7 series) and I noticed last night at a gig that the green disc on the master volume knob had dropped out, can't find it in the car so it may have gone doing the load in. Anyone have a spare or know where I could pick one up, nothing on eBay at first glance. Bizarrely I once had one of these very things in a spares box and I think I passed it on to someone on the old forum who was desperate for one. I know they are only cosmetic but it would be nice to get it back to original looks as its in very good nick otherwise.
I'd contact Trace themselves. They're a very helpful company!
  17.
I'm using a laneyrb6 which works quite well, but a rb8 is also in your price range which has 300watts power and should do small to mid sized gigs(depending on what the rest of your band uses)
+1 on the Laney RB8 I've used mine for pub gigs, festivals and the occasional outdoor party and its always been loud enough . . . sounds good too!
  18.
Evenin' I'm getting a new head and cab, upgrading my existing Laney RBW300. However, I'm getting the head first as I've yet to decide on a cab. My question is, how would I go about bypassing the inbuilt laney amp in the combo, and using the new head with the 1x15 speaker? Is this possible? If so, what cables do I need. If it's not possible then I'll either be part exing the amp or just whacking it on the for sale/trade board on here. It's served me well but it's time to upgrade Here's some pics of the front and back inputs, which I wasn't sure of when I posted the question in my 'opinions...' thread.. Any help appreciated as always, you guys awesome I love you aaaall. mwah Having looked at the inputs I'm not hopeful it's actually possible.. but alas..
Not possible without getting someone to disconnect the amp from the speaker and adding a connecting jack somewhere on the unit. (Am I the only person on this forum that actually likes Laney gear?)
Finished! .... and sounding good.
.... very nice! Have you thought about making them for others?
  20.
I think these combos might be aimed at the more 'tradtional combo' end of the market. They look like normal combos, and have a few less features than the RH450. I wonder what price range they are at. Interesting! These guys are very quick at releasing new products. http://www.tcelectronic.com/bg500.asp
Here's one place that will be selling them ... pricing seems very reasonable ... made in PRC? 21. Laney RB8 is what I use for rehearsals and pub/party gigs. Under £300 new, 5 year guarantee, 200 watts @ 8 ohms, 300@ 4 ohms, British company (Chinese made) Loud, clean, reliable, cheap, not too heavy and good enough for me! Much under-estimated I think.
